Discuss the 2003 Pioneer Press Medallion Here.

Artemis The Huntress

I get it now that I read the posts, but when I saw the title I was like "ooh whats this? A Special Hunt? Cool!" I was laughing at myself mostly.

Thanks, THX!

My theory on a park is
... Crosby!

This is "Dalliance, My" checkin' in.

LOL!

That's how the system lists them.

Your first name is "My" and your last is "Dalliance".

I noticed that, after I posted it. You're exactly right. I didn't know the two would be connected. I voted no.

I can't delete it, either. Maybe I can edit the message below ?

Thanks THX

It's gonna be found at Phalen in 2003--in the "brush" of zone 3 ;)

That really your prediction, Me2?

me2

Are we giving 'true predictions' here? Ok, not completely decided...I think Phalen or Highland. It has been many years since Phalen has had that much excitement. I have grown fond of Highland with as much time I spent there this year between the 2 hunts :)

I like South St Anthony for a small park.

My Dal, we have an interesting question regarding free speech and the internet in one of the news threads. I'd like to hear your opinion on the matter.

from the archives of the 2001 hunt (with regard to walking in the torchlight parade):

Me2 - 07:37pm Feb 2, 2001 CST (#27034 of 28288)
"Jammers"

I would really love too, but i am a whus when it comes to the cold. I have never been in a parade before.

amazing isn't it how far some of the young'uns of the cooler have come in so little time? me2 and dal couldn't even get a post in until after the 2001 hunt. scribe got me out of my shell this year. we really are all coming together quite nicely. incidentally i posted this one in response to all of you who criticised me for not showing up while nursing a cold, or injured. basically i'm not the only one who's good at coming up with whimpy reasons to not do something :)

oh and next time you spell it, me2, its wuss, not whus.

thats what i'm here for frosti. i'll work on getting the other years threads posted this weekend. because of their simpler nature, it'll probably be the 98 and 99 threads first. this years could take a bit though.

Yes, it's very nice. I'll need to get all new downloads, and ditch the ones I have. Thanks

i'll probably throw up the zip file sometime this weekend, ian, so check back frequently.

I have a friend that works for the Pioneer Press. Last evening she was at my house and we got discussing the coolercrew.com site. She said she would check on things with the Planet folks and let me know. This is the email I got from her - or the part that pertains to us:

Mentioned the Cooler Crew thing to the planet people, who said "I don't know." They also said they had received calls on it, which were forwarded to the powers-in-charge.

Phone calls do have power, as do e-mails. Send and do both. Change takes place where voices are heard. Good luck.

I will check with her and ask if there's any one person that we're better off contacting, but in the meantime, call and email!

fyi ian, trent got a hold of me with regard to the archive i'm running of the cooler threads. he just sent me a zip file which should have the missing 2 or 3 thousand posts from the archive i've got from you. i haven't looked at it yet.

terry, thanks for the info about coolercrew.com. incidentally, if the pp is willing to release its grip on the domain name, i'm more than happy to pay the 35 dollars a year to keep the thing registered. hosting would remain an issue, but since lance is looking at hosting as a revenue source for pf....

Thanks for the info, Ares

Terry:

My e-mail to PP:

I am not able to access coolercrew.com

This website, sponsored by Pioneer Press/pioneerplanet.com is THE source of information concerning the Saint Paul Winter Carnival and the Pioneer Press Treasure Medallion Hunt.

Over the past few years, due to promotion in the Press, the site has provided many new (and regular) Medallion Hunters with valuable resources.

I am truly hoping that there have been technical problems with the site, rather than a 'corporate' decision to dis-continue it.

Please respond at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,
Ian Stevens

Very good, Ian!

Ares - with all the work that has gone into that website and the countless hours that Greg Sax has put into that site, if there's a way to retrieve it and make it fly, I'm in too.

Let's hope the powers that be see the light and turn it back on.

any idea if greg has it stored anywhere but coolercrew.com? better yet, what's his email addy. i'll try to get a hold of him directly. or i'll put one of my co-workers who went to high school with him to work on him :)

incidentally, the zip file of the 2000-2001 hunts is being posted as i write this.

Fri, 03/22/2002 - 8:51 PM Permalink
Terry

I know Greg had the stuff on his laptop and was working on it during the hunt.

Let's give this a chance to work out. It's nice having the PP footing the bill.

We were the ones that named that site...and it's on our banner for cryin out loud - the banner that the PP paid for - and I know those aren't cheap.

The zip file took 9 minutes @ 52,000 bps-not bad

Fri, 03/22/2002 - 9:24 PM Permalink

and i had 220000bps to spare :)

well, i'm gonna head off to bed. finally gonna hit the slopes at spirit mountain tomorrow. we're leaving at 7 which leaves me with about 7 more hours to sleep. :) nite all.

Hey Ian? What is so special and rare about the 1966? What was the theme that year?

Mon, 03/25/2002 - 1:08 PM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

probably not really rare. I've only seen three, tho. One I sold a few years ago because I didn't think it was 'official'. It says Festivals USA, and the 1966 is not really prominent. The second one I got from Maureen, then this one on eBay.

Thanks for your comments. I have forwarded your message to our online team. Changes are in the works for the general site, in hopes of making it more user friendly. I will check on the fate of coolercrew. Thanks again.

Nothing yet from Dave Belden.

Mr. Med Hunter

I'm working on tracking down the dealio. I've been in touch with the
hosting company in Virginia and learned that Knight-Ridder dropped all
their newspaper sites listed with this company. I made a friendly
contact though and he went ahead and tracked down a contact at the
Pioneer Press.

I'm in the process of figuring this out and readying a new pitch for
them to pay for our site. I'm in no real fat hurry since it's
off-season. Plus, I have everything that ever went up on the site safe
and sound in my personal computer.

If I need to restart the site as something else, I will.

Thanks for asking. I'll keep you posted when news changes.

Clue Master

Current Age B-Day Joe!!

Hi All - I'll stick with Mounds since it seemed to fit the few clues that were published last year. I like the Phalen angle too.

That's all

Tue, 03/26/2002 - 8:59 PM Permalink
Terry

I will be in the right park this year...wherever that may be!

Tue, 03/26/2002 - 9:13 PM Permalink
ares

contingent on the hunt lasting long enough to actually go out (for the first time in my life i've got the week slated for vacation come hell or high water!) i'll be in the right park this year. of course, if the horoscope dal posted from my birthday is anything resembling accurate, someone who is a gemini, me2, and i will be finding it so the rest of you need not apply :)

Tue, 03/26/2002 - 9:28 PM Permalink
Terry

Ares - There is a Gemini right here...thank you very much!

Tue, 03/26/2002 - 10:26 PM Permalink
Artemis The Huntress

Thats cool! If we all send letters to the contacts Terry listed above, maybe that will help Greg out by letting the PP know how important the site is. It can't hurt to try.

Wed, 03/27/2002 - 5:26 AM Permalink
Terry

Artemis - That's exactly the idea. There is power in words. There is more power when those words come from multiple people. The more the better!

Wed, 03/27/2002 - 6:17 AM Permalink
Frosti

Here's another Gemini. Competition's getting fierce. ;-)

Wed, 03/27/2002 - 6:32 AM Permalink
ares

ok so the rest of the rest need not apply :)

Wed, 03/27/2002 - 6:35 AM Permalink
Frosti

Should make for an easy hunt next year, with 11 out of 12 competitors out of the running.

Wed, 03/27/2002 - 7:21 AM Permalink
ares

it was obvious from the horoscope that me, a sagittarius, and a gemini are going to find the puck this year. period. so actually its 10 out of 12 competitors out of the running, and since me2 is the only sagittarius that i know of who hunts for the thing, it makes that all the easier.
