the *first* place that should get light rail is an express corridor from downtown to downtown.
I agree 100%.
You should check out the annual bus race they have on the 260 route. I was on it a few years back, and they raced The Batmobile. No kidding. Down highway 36. Of course, the bus won. I got a t-shirt to prove it.
60 million a mile and climbing for a little choo choo train. What a bargain. Yea and were only billions in the whole but heck as long as I can go to the Mall of America, who cares. Build more roads and add bus service especially the express buses they work great. We are the only major metro area with a 2 lane beltway in the country. Now they want to tax gas even more for improvements that basically give us the status quo. Most of the money from the gas tax and lisc. tabs etc. doesn't go to roads. It goes to the general fund and disappears on other things.
End of political rant on the breeze thread. Sorry :o)
Did anyone watch all 4.5 hours of the oscars ? I confess I didn't because I really could care less about them. Seems like entertainment has an awards show about every month, these people pat themselves on the back more than a dog with fleas. I know some people get into who wears what etc. It just seems like such a self love fest that it gets to be a little much.
I ride the bus to work most of the time, but then I also work downtown where parking is expensive, so riding the bus is much cheaper. I don't think when all things are considered that riding the bus is faster. You have to get to the bus stop and then wait for the bus and that alone can frequently eat up any time saved even without a transfer. On the other hand, you can read a book or something while on a bus and actually make some use of that time whereas when you're driving, you pretty much have to just drive. Generally though, if cost isn't the issue, I'd prefer to drive somewhere as I feel I have more control over when I come and go.
I got rid of my cable a while back and never bothered hooking up my attena, and the Oscars were not on one of the two channels I can pick up so I didn't watch them. But I have in the past, and I've watched the preshow stuff too. It's kind of fun, like Prom Night in Hollywood. Who knows, maybe we'll be there next year when "No Time for Cold Feet" wins the Oscar for Best Documentary, hehe.
The bus doesn't take me a whole lot longer than driving. I save about 15 minutes by driving, once you consider parking and walking from the ramp to my workplace. But if money were no object, I would prefer to drive.
Hi everyone from Aitkin, MN. Been up here since thursday night...coming home tonight. Lake is still frozen and about 10 people still ice-fishing on it.
Ares? yes, I looked at SUV's up here-the deals in the city are better. Searching for a Durango or Bravada.
of course he doesn't, me2. that's why he's got to consider taking the bus :)
when you get back here, i'll fire off another piece of advice to ya that i just learned about buying suvs, as i'm assuming you won't be buying one there.
No, not buying one up here. I got to test drive a loaded Durango-very, very nice :p
But with new monthly payments, insurance & gas...uhhhhh, we should consider taking the bus ::sigh:: I think I would estimate it all at about $800-$900 a month!
one more thing (which will be counteracted by tomorrows lesson), if you're buying new, make sure you get it with the butt-warmers built in. i drove my cousins brand new f-150 crew cab yesterday. aside from handling way different than the mustang, there's something to be said for warm seats! especially if leather.
Those heated seats were in the loaded Durango...WOW! Yes! very cool! AND it had heat/airconditioning that you could control-like the vent on me could be warm air and the vent on the passenger would be cooler air AT THE SAME TIME-way too cool!
my mind at work again.......Warm seat = Hot A..... :) ::sigh::
hmm. maybe we should create a new thread for me2's new truck :)
ya know, i don't need to be reading this. a piece of my stock portfolio hit its target on friday so i've got a little cash to burn, with more to follow later this week. please don't tempt me :) pretty please.
Aside from that, why do we need to keep creating new threads for every topic that comes up? If every topic needs a new thread, then what is it we're actually supposed to discuss in this thread?
i didn't say i was gonna do it, aw. i just created one for the mass transit as it definitely qualifies as "in the news" and could well turn into a rather large discussion. or not.
There was? I didn't hear about it I don't think. I was under the impression people were waiting for me to organize something so I threw out the idea of a Sunday night next month.
I hate getting calls in the middle of the night to go to the police station to pick up a teenage son. Public intoxication at 15...there goes this year's baseball season.
Marly! the tantric concert sucked!!!!!!! well the bands were good but......miller only served beer, wich I havn't drank for ten years! can't stand the taste! so I choked down a couple only to find out that they cut us off at 10:30! then they kicked us out at 12:00! gimme a break! St.Patty's day is a party day and the quest totally ruined it!
oh yeah, I almost forgot...I didn't even have to show a ticket! all that trouble to win them and I could have just gotten in line and showed my I.D! what a crock!
That's really odd that they would do something like that. I mean, I can see hanging Miller banners everywhere, and having drink specials. But isn't the Quest a bar? I've never heard of a bar shutting off sales of every other type of booze.
yeah seemed pretty stupid to me too,and then to stop serving at 10:30 was even more stupid! will probably never go again unless it's someone I really want to see.
depends on which battle you're talking about. i'm fighting several :)
there's the "replace the hoopty or stash the money and put it to better use" battle. thankfully, logic is winning there and the money is being stashed. for the moment.
there's the "will mike send me an export file of the medallion hunt threads so we can impor them here" battle. i'm not winning that one at the moment, but email has been sent higher up than mike requesting said files.
there's the "tech support is a bunch of idiots battle because they haven't the first clue what they're asking for". that one's presently at a stalemate.
and then there's the "gee, i shoulda said something to her 9 months ago battle" that's been going on for, well, 9 months.
i'm prolly missing something here though. oh yeah. the head cold battle. finally i've got that one won.
Speaking of battles, here's a report about my kids on the town today. I found it humorous.
They did okay at first, but I made the mistake of getting there too early. They'd found the Curious George books (Note: this library has a much more kids-friendly kids section than Maplewood. They have big shelves devoted to just Clifford, George, etc., with big pictures of each main character above his/her books so even little kids can find them with no problem) and they wanted to read those. So we started off on the wrong foot, and things rapidly went downhill. They didn't want to sit still, kept getting up to wander around, talked, whined about George, found the plastic egg stash that was part of the props for one of the stories (we left at that point) and yes, as you said, pretty much just caused generalized mayhem.
hmmm. its a slow day at work today. checking out the links in ye olde hunt archive to make sure i got them all right. man some of the post hunt dialog from 2001 is funny as hell.
me2, are you still the primary contender for the snow studs mascot? or is that the job of your avatar? :)
Ok, so if Sunday the 7th is settled, the next question is where to go and what to do? Do people want to try new places? Go back to Fern's? Have a bonfire? Play games?

all right then, let's take it over to the newly created mass transit thread under "in the news".
thanks Ares.

now i wish i'd have actually been caught on tape digging :)

and as for you, THX...
I have a driver bring me to work everyday.
I hope you tip your driver well ;)
of course he doesn't, me2. that's why he's got to consider taking the bus :)

Allison - There was a get-together thing in the planning stages...for sometime in April...like a Sunday night if I recall.
Sunday evenings usually work out pretty well for us. Let us know when, where and all that.
There was? I didn't hear about it I don't think. I was under the impression people were waiting for me to organize something so I threw out the idea of a Sunday night next month.
Allison - that's what I was referring to. Any takers?
I'm ready to hit the sack. Today's been a good day for a Monday. Hope the rest of the week is as kind.
Goodnight, SCDs and MCL! See yaz all in the morning.
P.S. What this site down for awhile late afternoon?
i'm up for it. somehow, i just don't think i can keep myself hidden in the shadows until january. not like i really want to anymore.
and yes, it was down for a bit this afternoon.
i'm thinking i'm gonna have to hit the sheets to. scd's and mcl to all.
I hate getting calls in the middle of the night to go to the police station to pick up a teenage son. Public intoxication at 15...there goes this year's baseball season.
OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!?!!
Just stop by to say hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello to everyone!!!
And anybody I forgot HELLO!hehe
Marly! the tantric concert sucked!!!!!!! well the bands were good but......miller only served beer, wich I havn't drank for ten years! can't stand the taste! so I choked down a couple only to find out that they cut us off at 10:30! then they kicked us out at 12:00! gimme a break! No liquor at the quest? Why not?
oh yeah, I almost forgot...I didn't even have to show a ticket! all that trouble to win them and I could have just gotten in line and showed my I.D!
what a crock!
cuz miller was putting on the show so beer was all they would serve! not even a smirnoff ice!
That's really odd that they would do something like that. I mean, I can see hanging Miller banners everywhere, and having drink specials. But isn't the Quest a bar? I've never heard of a bar shutting off sales of every other type of booze.

Huh. Well, I guess I won't be headed there either unless it's a really good act that I can't pass up.
I would have been OK, since fortunately I like beer. The debate is whether Miller Lite is considered beer or not. ;-)
I would have just brought a bottle with me if I had known they werent going to search me!
off to work! MCL ALL!
Bye LL!
mornin' heads.
Mornin' Ares. How goes the battle?
depends on which battle you're talking about. i'm fighting several :)

Mornin Ares, Mornin Frosti!

- Icebreaker 250 Enduro & Spectator Drags
LL- Bummer about the Tantric Concert!!! Quest is actually a pretty good place for music (when its not a sponsered event)
AW- We're up for a get together on April 7
Well, I'm off to sleep!
MCL Ya'll!
yeah i asked my cousin about it the other day. thanks artemis.
Morning Artemis!
Ares, didn't you learn not to start a two front war from the Germans?
i must have missed school the day they taught that :)

works for Me2 :)
Geesh Ian...don't you just love parenthood? :)
ya know if my parents had gotten a call to come pick me up in the middle of the nite they'd have left me there.
hmmm. its a slow day at work today. checking out the links in ye olde hunt archive to make sure i got them all right. man some of the post hunt dialog from 2001 is funny as hell.

A bonfire would be awesome - if the weather cooperates. No fun doing that in the rain - but otherwise that would be my vote.
In case of rain, Fern's would be good.
what terry said.
no response yet from dave b., ter. :(
What about the Readers Advocate?
i didn't send one there. i figured thats one of those online vs. in-print type of differences. though sending one that way probably can't hurt.
It's where I got my response. I haven't gotten one from Belden yet either.
