they say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and none of it killed us. of course the corollary of that is that which does kill us leaves us dead.

 Excel Smokestack Demolition
I took this shot from near the Bruce Vento lookout with my old ALL-MANUAL 35mm camera. I had Walgreens convert the roll of film to a CD, then edited it together as an animated GIF, but I cannot get the animated version to embed properly. ARGH! The Video someone else already posted on YouTube.
The ground tremor from the detonation was minor up there, and the crash as it hit the ground took about 2 seconds to get all the way up the hill to us.
the smokestack fell towards our direction....
I got some good video of it...
part of the very top of it, scattered all the way accross Shepherd, and some of it landed on the train tracks below us...
they had giant sand hills strategically placed, where it was supposed to fall, and they missed except for the very base....
we watched the smoke cloud blow towards the High Bridge, and all the people running....
I was talking to a channel 11 guy who was there, and he said that the scene reminded him of TV shots from 9/11, with people running away from giant dust clouds....
LOTS of people out there, man... holy crap...
This is about the furthest North you can get in the state, heck, even the continental US. I wish I'd had people's addresses, coulda sent postcards from the northernmost continental US post office too...
Behind to the right is the last one room schoolhouse in operation in the state. The town is tiny, had dinner at one of only a couple restaraunts in the area.
Too bad I had to drive through Canada though... nasty dirt road almost all the way up.
looks windy and cold.
nice shoes!!!!!!!!!!
I expect nothing less, KC...

On that note, note to self, go buy a new pair of shoes tonight...
Talked to a lady the next day up in the Angle that did the same cache the next morning. She actually saw a bear. And she was alone, heh.
