anyone know what the

Saint Paul, 1, Minn was about?

1??
Fri, 10/20/2006 - 10:14 AM Permalink
OT

They used that before Zip Codes. Now 1 is 55101. Most of downtown St. Paul was 1.

no Idea, I was wondering that myself.

obviously because Saint Paul is number 1. If ya doubt it, just look at the skyline

Looks like that address was before zip codes.. possibly just an old mail routing number?
Fri, 10/20/2006 - 10:17 AM Permalink
OT

Zip codes didn't start until 1963. And only large cities had numbers like that to help out the mailmen.

For what it's worth, Vino, I think your picture is of a living child. Photo tinting became very popular in the 1940's. I have a rosy-cheeked photo of myself as an infant. My older sisters were jealous of my year old picture because theirs were black and white.

Love4Vino

thanks OT. I think there is a little movement also in the left hand - it's a bit blurred.

Interesting to note about the photo tinting. from what I had read of it, it seemed originally only to be done on the dead ones. (shudder) which made me a little worried.

Now I have to figure out who is in the photo... and why it says Saint Paul on the back of it, when all the other photos (and there are tons and tons) were done in local studios.

1942 city directory

14 east 7th street is basically just east of the corner of Wabasha and 7th St. - NOW, theoretically, 7th street back in the 1940's no longer exists today. There is a 7th Place now, but it's only a block long. Todays 7th St is yesteryears 8th St. So that being said.... the studio was located roughly just past where you would enter into Daytons/Marshall Field/Macys interior entrance which is connected by the corrodore to the Trade Center. You would have to continue eastward past the Macy's Entrance and walk through a wall and then turn south (left) basically to get there today.

Does that sound like what OT said?

cool info guys! you rule!

Me2 - I love all the goodies you seem to extrapulate.

I was reading on the action squad site today their tour of the Abbott hospital, and in the Misc. page he gives kudos to the Mn Historical society for his research.

you should totally hook up with them, I could see you being an action squad gal.

I was gonna hook up with them til my college professor/geology/speleology/underground guy friend shunds them for whatever reason. There is a women videoing them like Trent did to us for No Time For Cold Feet. There are action squads around the world now. They even have world meetings. I've done a little sewer/underground/abandoned areas but not lately.

Please don't mind my childish/uneducated way of writing in this post- I'm tired
