Frog Pond was located in what is now Newell Park, west of campus on Fairview and Hewitt Avenues, and was a retreat for many Hamline students. It was a favorite place for a stroll, a picnic, and general escape from academic life. A massive boulder, known as Proposal Rock, was a destination as well. The class of 1925 hatched a plan to move the rock to campus as a symbol of romance and as a memorial to their class (and Frog Pond). It proved too weighty a project, however, so a rock moved from Frog Pond by the class of 1886 serves as a substitute. It currently sits in front of the Giddens Learning Center and is chiseled with five sets of class years, in intervals of twenty-five years: 1886, 1911, 1936, and 1986.
Gonna have to drop by and check it out sometime (since I work so close by it). I don't expect they described the location any better, or anything identifiable about the rock....
Wow! Thanks Me2, I always wondered about that rock in front of GLC!
How strange it would have such a connective history!
On another historical topic, I will send you a copy of my honor's project before the end of March. I have to re-write the literature review and touch up some citations.
I was able to keep it just over 50 pages, so it should be readable.
Ha! I couldn't have done most of it without your help in access for research!
New literature review is almost done. I took out all of the anthropological mumbo-jumbo and just focused on the major works that have been published with WC as the topic or as a by-line in their work. Mostly, Moira Harris WC History), Paul Clifford Larson(Icy Pleasures), Robert Lavenda (Corn Fests and Water Carnivals) and Mary Lethert Wingerd (Faith, Politics and Place in St. Paul).
Your name will be credited for your work in the published copy at the University.
I also hope to submit a copy to RHS in hopes that they will be interested in publishing it.
Way to go scrible now the real work begins I knew you could do it!!!

I do know there's a fairly large boulder there, same one I've mentioned to Ian when discussing cache hide potential in Newell.
Interesting on the frog pond... so it's possible someone could reference a frog pond and have a medallion hidden in newell...
I think the original rock is probably still in Newell -
1 Find "Proposal Rock" in a St. Paul park.
2 What year was a treasure found near there during the winter?
3 Multiply that year by x and substitute for N coordinates
4 blah blah blah
