Didn't know where else to post this so I figured it might as well be here.
THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS ALL ABOUT!
It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when a gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.
I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.
On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and re-dress his wound.
While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife
I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for awhile and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.
I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?"
He smiled as he patted my hand and said,
"She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is."
I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, "That is the kind of love I want in my life."
True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.
I love the love stories that have happy endings - not the ones where they arn't together in the end. Titanic is the exception
I worked in a movie theater for years and managed a video store for many more - saw many movies mulitple times! Tombstone! Back to the future 1 2 3 - just about anything from 1986 to 1996 Ive seen it at least once- usually thrice and many about 10 times each! I love movies! as much as music.
When all of my kids were in school full time I would rent movies from a friend who ran a little hole in the wall rental place. He didn't have a ton of movies. One of my favorites from that time was an early Richard Gere movie titled Breathless. I think it gots about one star when rated, but I loved it! I would rewind the end and watch it over and over.
West Side Story is so very Romeo and Juliet...and it's one of my favorites. I also love the Sound of Music for the love story and the triumph over evil.
Mr. Holland's Opus is another great love movie. The love for his boy, the love of music and the love and respect he has from his students made that movie memorable.
My all time favorite movie/play though is Fiddler on the Roof. The love he had for his wife and daughters was so amazing. After 25 years of marriage, the discussion about whether they loved each other and how that didn't real make a difference, but it was good to know was priceless. The struggles he had with things traditional as the world was changing around them made the movie timeless in my opinion. The movie was set in a certain time and place, but that same movie could be made in any time frame and still be relevant. Who doesn't struggle with change and traditions that need to be altered, changed or abandoned as the world spins past us?
I've been called Shirley a time or ten. I've been called Karen too many, many times.
You've Got Mail is indeed good - and so is Sleepless in Seattle.
Forest Gump is another odd, yet touching love story.
I like Tom Hanks anyway so just about anything he does is great.
Another fun movie was The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Watched that once with my Mom and she laughed so hard she darn near tipped herself out of her chair.
an affair to remember is the same as You've got mail -
I thought about it some more and these others came to mind --- ::sigh:: mostly just scenes in the movies though ....and most have a song to go with them
I just remembered when I was 16 - in school ....between 2-3 period ...my first love and I would start at the opposite ends of this long hallway .... we'd slow motionly run twords eachother like Miss Piggy and Kermit the frog in whatever movie they did that in. I'm sooo corny -
speaking of corny.... I watched The Holiday late last night and 'corny' was mentioned in it and I had to laugh since I havn't heard that word in a while and then twice in one day it was used---- watched it with tears though through 1/2 the movie - pretty good- jack black wasn't that good in this one though. Cameron Diaz touches her chest like I do when I get like that....I can definately relate to both of the women characters in this movie.
one of my all time favorite quotes is from dirty dancing -
Me? I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am,.... and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you.
Other movies I thought about this morning are those with Robin Williams. I loved Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, Good Morning Vietnam, and Awakenings.
I believe Robin Williams has a certain genius. When you see him on a talk/interview show, he can hardly sit still and can't help but be the comic. To see him in film playing something more serious like Awakenings, you can hardly believe it's the same person.
Hmmmm..the quote my wife and I use from Dirty Dancing is just after Baby says she met Patrick Swayze before, at the party...and then she kicks her self for saying such a stupid thing: "...I carried a watermelon?!?!?"
Whenever we say something we wish we hadn't, we quote that line...
so where do I buy canned/frozen musk mellon/ cantalope?
and for a fun fact: A mouldy cantaloupe in a Peoria market in 1941 was found to contain the best and highest quality penicillin after a world-wide search. Just in case you were wondering...
Dang rooster!

Happy Valentine's Day!
  :sheepish:
terry & inks
How much does he love you???
More than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow...

Alzheimer's is an ugly disease.
Inks' stepdad though was dedicated to her like the piece I posted last night. And that was inspite of how ugly she would get with him.
I don't watch many movies. I did when I was young, but not now. Two of my all time favorites from way back are Picnic and Porgy and Bess.
I worked in a movie theater for years and managed a video store for many more - saw many movies mulitple times! Tombstone! Back to the future 1 2 3 - just about anything from 1986 to 1996 Ive seen it at least once- usually thrice and many about 10 times each! I love movies! as much as music.
I'm such a geek. :goofy:
Brokeback Mountain   :ooh: :pbpt:
I liked the love story of Natural Born Killers and West Side Story myself. Same with The Color Purple as far as sibling love goes. I own them as well.
Mr. Holland's Opus is another great love movie. The love for his boy, the love of music and the love and respect he has from his students made that movie memorable.

In the meantime with people living longer, seems there is more Alzheimers.

I heard the Watermelon is the only fruit that is always served fresh...does not come frozen or in a can.
and for a fun fact: A mouldy cantaloupe in a Peoria market in 1941 was found to contain the best and highest quality penicillin after a world-wide search. Just in case you were wondering...
good ideas though- maybe it had to be every kind of melon ??
I should use that new tool in the computer thread to forward this to the ask kitch thread
