That photo attached to the top of this thread is evil. No one should ever have to look at their junior high mug shots again after they turn 16.

okay, where to begin....

cluey is home in bed fighting a serious diagnosed case of pneumonia.

there may be some other things going on as well but most of the many tests aren't back yet.

I'll post more soon

hahaha-

he's got a couple of us making sure he gets plenty to drink and taking drugs on schedule. He may have slipped a disc in his lower back on top of everything else. I may loan him the laptop so he can come in to the Cooler but he isn't getting any rest!! he can't fall asleep.

hi everyone, Im really sorry I have not been online to post any updates. The last 2days have been crazy. understatement.

in a quick nutshell.

Brad is in Windwoods Hospital. He was admitted a couple days ago.

it's been test after test. our cluey is pretty sick but the doctors seem pretty close in a diagnosis. Yesterday, in a nutshell, was a big "F-up" - I brought my laptop up so he can post soon. He is loking good right now but the dr. is here to do an echocardiagram. they may send him to st joes

will post more soon.

Clue Master - Aug 2, 2008 8:34 pm (#1332 Total: 1447)

hi guys, brad here. still in the hospital (Woodwinds). It's been a physical and emotional roller coaster ride. long story short, I was diagnosed with bronchitis then pneumonia then misdiagnosed with leukemia and as it sits now I have endocarditis. I've never hurt more in my life. the pain meds are helping very little. Support from family and friends like you are helping out alot.

thank you all for your well wishes.

Aug 3, 2008 9:29 am (#1340 Total: 1447)

hey, an update, Brads mom and brother are trying to set up a website to keep people informed but I don't know if or when that's happening. Until then I will try to keep you posted and try to get Brad to post during the times he is on Valium. he has also been on something called Dilodin since Thursday night. Just trying to keep things quiet today but between the doctors and nurses coming in still every 20 minutes since 5:30 this morning with the rude awaking of the EKG guy - he's sleeping inbetween. Tomorrow they are taking some of his bone marrow and also placing a camera down his throat to look at his heart. he will be unconcious for both procedures. he is asleep now, he has a constant wheezing with his breathing.

Carolyn and I stopped in to see Brad last night... he told us, pretty much what me2 posted, 4 posts ago...

we helped move some furniture around for him, so he could watch his DVDs and stuff, and feel more comfortable...

holy crap, there are alotta light switches, for just one room!

sat and talked for quite a while, until the sleep drugs started to kick in...

he seemed to be in about an okay mood as you can be, given every thing thats going on....

I think he liked talkin to somebody who wasnt a doctor or a nurse, and attacking him with cords and tape....

Its a lot to handle, and take all at one time....

he's a strong dude though.... Cluey's gonna kick this s**t in the a$$ and be outta that piece in no time...

seemed like the drugs were some good stuff

sounded like he's gotta pretty full day today, though too....

the leukemia f**k up, pisses me off, to no extent....

I hate seeing good friends go through this type of stuff.... hopefully everything today goes as smooth as possible, and they can find more out....

keepin the big guy in our thoughts.... gonna maybe call later on today, and see how things went, if nobody posts....

as it sits as of 8 am this morning, the infectious control doctor came in and gave his opinion. His aortic valve in his heart is extremely “leaky” (doctors keep saying “leaky”). He has bacteria in his blood that the doctors say ate away at this valve. He said he was 95% sure that the bacteria in his blood was eating at his aeortic valve and it's "leaking" and will need to be replaced. They have had him on antibiotics to kill the bacteria but they say it could take weeks to clean his blood. If his heart is too "leaky" they may not be able to wait for the blood to clean. He also wasn't quite sure about the excrusiating back pain but right now says that the bacteria could be eating at his bone marrow in that area (bone marrow in the lower back was seen on the MRI). They are taking a bone sample from him this morning.

.

basically by the time I got to the hospital too many people were coming through the room and Brad was tired. 4 different nurse and orderlies and blood test taker and ekg people. ALL with in 20 minute.

the good things are that Clueys shakes seem to be under control with a drug for the most part but the pain at the core of the shakes is still very present.

and the fever has subsided to normal levels.

He gets sponge baths daily.

Aug 4, 2008 1:38 pm (#1364 Total: 1447)

I'm beside myself right now

Brad just came out of the throat test .......... I've been told that our Brad's heart is being deeply attacked by this bacteria that they can't wait to let the bacteria die with antibiotics over a few weeks. He is scheduled to be moved to St. Joes tomorrow and prepping for Heart Surgery on Wednesday! OMG hardly anytime to take any of this in.

Aug 5, 2008 7:35 am (#1382 Total: 1447)

Yesterday Brad had to undergo 2 major tests. One confirmed the heart valve problem. ............. the doctors want him transfered to St Joes today and have penciled him in for the surgery Wednesday-THATS TOMORROW!!!!! too much to take in with so little information. He is gonna try to talk with the doctors to postpone even by a day or two just to take it all in. You should see his chest!!! He looks so good with all that weightloss and now this!!!

he is greatful to everyone! He got all teared up by the generosity and genuine care of you guys. you guys rock

I do have to say that a couple of cool treatments Brad gets to experience is, yesterday he got a foot rub by a masseuse AND today he is trying to lay on his tummy for acupuncture on his back.

Aug 6, 2008 6:55 am (#1404 Total: 1447)

okay, he is all checked in and settled at St. Joes.

You shoulda seen one of the peramedics that moved him- priceless and brought a smile to the situation. He...or she.... stayed with Brad in the back of the transporter and he says he just couldn't figure it out totally. There was an adams apple but their were these boobs.

Very leathery tanned wrinkly face like Keith Richards- one of the family members thought he/she looked like one of the guys from Kiss with out make-up-

We think now that the diagnosis has been made the doctors and nurses have not been in to see him as much. hopefully he got some rest last night. The doctors figured out the type of bacteria which makes them think that the bacteria entered the blood stream sometime about 6 months ago when he went to the dentist and had some work done (ie: filling (s) and scraping/cleaning).

The doctors decided to postpone the surgery til Friday. They want to get a dentist in to look over his mouth, I think to be sure he doesn't have any abscess teeth or something.

He is looking so much better - and probably the best I've ever seen him look!

his blood presure was 99 over 51 yesterday. Weird considering he has had high blodd pressure for so long.

So as we stand, he will be undergoing an aortic heart valve replacement Friday 8-8-8.

his mom took pictures -

I will definately post them if she got a shot.

I have some cool pics of some ultrasound pics and of Brad that I can post too - just have not had time to transfer them.

I also just wanted you all to know that Brad does get to read the Cooler. He says hi to everyone -including Froggy and thanks you for all the thoughts.

Aug 6, 2008 8:13 am (#1413 Total: 1447)

actually the doctors do want to rush. yesterday they said that he probably would have had a heart attack within the month. I'm not sure if I understood this correct but it sounded like the bacteria has left some kind of large deposit -called berries, on this valve and even a cough could push it loose which would cause the pieces to float around the heart and cause the heart attack. They want this done now.

Aug 7, 2008 7:46 am (#1439 Total: 1447)

a little update. nothing much happened yesterday except that there were many visitors and big future decisions were presented. Last night he got his first shower in over a week. He was very weak and dizzy but made it through. This morning the 3rd floor began leaking water down to the lab so maintenance had to go through his bathroom and drill holes on the walls for a while. seems like that racket is done for now. The last time family can see him is 6 am tomorrow morning. The surgery is scheduled for 7:30,I think, and is supposed to last all morning in to the early afternoon. He will be kept in the ICU after that for a while. Family wont be able to see him for a few hours after that.

just wanted to put this up here now. I have not had time to add to the family site - only to the Cooler so far when I can. There is so much more going on but we have all been so busy trying to make sure Brad is getting good care that it's hard to get it all po

Hey at least now his ticker will actually tick!

My wife had a long brain surgery for Epilepsy years ago - a nurse told me the "Hangover" from anesthesia is roughly three times longer than the time they were under. If the surgery was two hours long, they will be semi-conscious and very dopey for another six, etc...

I don't know if that math works anymore, but that's my 2 cents worth...
