Brad could get upset with me...but...

some extremely sad news today...

link to : 5/10/07

Sad to have to post this update on our Aims. Amy passed away with family at her side at 5:15AM this morning, I will post times and date of when we will be celebrating Amy's life. Ali, Brad, Brenda, Brian and all of our families, are holding up as well as can be expected. Thanks again for all of the prayers, support and love thru this unbelievable time.

I would like to send flowers and also plant a tree or get the memorial plaque for one of the parks that Amy and/or Brad liked to go to. The bench would be sweet, too, but is probably out of our price range...

OK, I was reading the wrong tree section of that link...well, if we do get a tree, I wonder if we get to know when it is planted so that we can all be there

I'll contribute to whatever the group decides.

I am leaning towards our sending some flowers to Amy's service, and the bronze memorial plaque. Knowing how much Brad (and all of us) like the view from Indian Mounds, and that it's quiet up there...that would be a nice place that he and Ali could go to reflect on thoughts of Amy.

The tree is a nice idea, but I don't like you just receive notification (later) of where it got planted. A plaque would have Amy's name on it...

how much would a broze plaque run??

looks kinda spendy 2 me....IMHO...if we can raise that kinda cash...

we should figure out a college gift of some type...

savings bonds??

I will be in for whatever is decided.

sorry to hear......

I like the plaque because it's tangible...FWIW

I'm so sad :frown:

Name it and we're on it.

I like the college gift idea. But something tangible I feel would be good for them now too.

To touch, feel and see it now.

I think that maybe we could raise some money, and if we have enough, we could get the plaque and start a college fund too.. even if its a few bucks.. given the right interest rate, it could become enough for community college in a tenish years..? I know they'd appreciate any of the suggestions that have been made. Count me in! He is, after all, my hero!

I just don't see how we could even come up with about 1500ish (my best guess on a plaque)

Well.. I have a trophy plaque place by my house, I could call and give you info on how much it'd be. If you want I could start hunting for ya tomorrow.

Recognition Plaques for all amenities except trees must be bronze 10" high x 12" wide, 3/8" thickness with 3/8" lettering. Tree plaques must be 10" wide by 8" high and 3/8" thick). Typical cost is $350 - $500. The customer is responsible for purchasing the plaque from a private vendor. Verbiage must be approved by the Division prior to the plaque being made. Placement of the plaque will be determined by the Division, typically adjacent to the amenity and adhered to a concrete slab.

Please Note: The Division of Parks and Recreation prefers to restore existing amenities but will entertain requests for new locations. The Division retains the right to install amenity type appropriate to park site.

well I could be wrong on the price...

I can still check it out.. now.. do you want a tree plaque, or an amenity plaque?

We're in with whatever gets decided. A memorial plaque does sound nice.

On the other hand, a college fund would also be a great idea. If I had died before my kids had gotten to college, that is what I would have wanted for them.

It's all so sad. :frown:

Coco and I would like to contribute something. One thought I had is for down the road. I think later on this year, when the time is right, we should have a mock hunt. I think it would be good for Brad (and Ali preferably) to get out hunting, being out with friends. We could all be in on the mock hunt and let Brad find the treasure. The prize could/would be donations by us to him and Ali. We could have a night out or picnic afterwards, depending on if he wanted adult time or if he wanted Ali to be included. Just a thought I had.

Gosh, this is terrible news. My thoughts are with Brad and his family. I'll pitch in. I like the idea of a park memorial but I can also understand the need for college fund/savings bonds contributions.

Oh yeah, I bought a tree for someone one year. It is a nice gesture, but you get a map after the fact and when you good look for it, there are a bunch planted in the same location so you can't really go and say, "here is the tree that was planted for Amy/Mom, etc."

A truly sad day. Brad is one of my
favorite medallion hunters. He has
always been friendly and kind to me.
Whatever the crew decides, I'll
help with as much as I can.

What a great idea. I really like that.

We should try to come to a consensus and get the ball rolling.

I love the brick idea!

Since it is not that expensive you could do that and get some sort of college fund together.

I think we should do TMK's idea - do a hunt that everybody pays into - and all proceeds go to Alli's college fund.

I did find out that if we were to get one of the Como Bricks. We could get a certificate that can be presented on Monday to Brad..

I love the idea of a hunt. This was a fantastic idea!!!

IMHO I was hoping we could also try and come up with something sooner as well.

Personally I think the more's the better in terms of stuff to do, I don't think getting a group consensus on one thing to do is necessary. Everybody chip in wherever they can.

Terry

I think a hunt is certainly good to do down the road.

Sounds like the brick is well received and I like that there would be a certificate to the effect that we could get by Monday.

here is my take on this...

I'm 90% sure brad alrdy has aome type of college fund set up for ali...I recalled something like when he got that $$ from the mouse hunt he either bought savings bonds or put it into her account.

so I'm more than confortable with us just pooling the money somehow.

the brink is perfect IMHO...(now to say what??)

I'll set up the flowers and pay for this...

(not a major deal as I'll order it thru my sister in law)

(ideas on card?? for that?)

The card: With Sympathy, The Cooler Crew

There is no way to get individual names on a florist card.

Suggestion for brick -

First Line: In Celebration of Amy

Second Line: Date of birth - date of death

Third line: Wife and mother

There was mention of a symbol like a cross or heart. Perhaps a heart would be good.

I will be happy to take care of the brick ordering and getting the certificate.

Again what should it say for the $150 it is 2 lines. for $200 it is 3.

So what should it say?

As for the card, I think letting him know how many of us are thinking of them.

I think both of those are perfect Terry!

I'm leaving for a lunch meeting here and won't be back for a couple hours at least.

Whatever you guys think is great. I'll need an address to send checks to for flowers and brick.

Please either PM me or send to SnowinginMN@(no spam)gmail.com

If there is extra monies collected for either the flowers or brick, that could either be donated to the college fund or perhaps as the prize for the hunt later.

I was gone yesterday and only just now got the news. I'm so sorry Brad and Ali.

I like the brick idea and the hunt down the road for Ali's college fund. The only thing I don't like about the brick is that its in como and not Mounds. But I think if we can get it by monday we should do that. I am in for whatever is done.

Let me know who to give money to.

Are you gonna put her full name on the brick? I think it should be her full name or at least 1st and last name. If thats too many letters drop the "celebration of" part? Just my thoughts on it.

Putting the last name - if it were Anderson or Johnson would be okay. I'm not sure it's wise to put a more unique last name.
