If someone gets ahold of his family and his brother from cottage grove wants to send something, I could get it from him and bring it to the PDG... just a thought.

Who is making the cooler button this year?

*MOM* always makes the buttons.

Any way to put a yellow ribbon on it?

I'm betting she's already got them done.

I have been dissecting treasure hunt clues off and on since I was very little. My moms side of the family is from St. Paul, and my dads from the other city. So, naturally, my mom was helpful with the clues. In 2002, I had a picture in my head extremely of where the clue was. It was a very good match to what Merriam is really like. --I got excited. The next year, I was doing construction for work, and during the hunt we were off a lot. So I would look around a little bit then, following the clues as best as I can. I drove to Como a lot, mostly because it was the only park that I really new... My grandpa and my great aunt found the 1954 treasure chest. 2004 was the 50th anniversary of their hunt. My grandpa died right before the 2002 hunt. The 50 year anniversary of the hunt altogether. I thought... what a cooler idea it would be, if the whole family took the surviving member of the team, and did a 50th anniversary hunt... I was the only one who went. And went hard. Pushing because I wanted to find it for my grtandpa, and make him proud, and all of the other stuff you think of in that half crazed state of mind. I had the fever... I took off the 4th day through the 11th day of the hunt off. I slept maybe 3-4 hours a day. I was online and posted every idea that I had ever had about the clues... And I lived in my car, and the phalen the rest of the week... It was the best time in my life...

Man, I sure can ramble on and on and on...

What else... I am in the Army National Guard. I enlisted in 1991. I left after the intial 6 years, and came back 4 years later in 2001.I am now a Sergeant, and work for the Guard full time 1 1/2 miles from my home in Rosemount. I am a mechanic, both on the weekends and during the week. I am currently stationed in Baghdad, Iraq. I usually don't leave the wire for very long, so I don't have any really cool/scary first hand stories to tell about this lovely place yet. In order to keep my job, I have to remain enlisted. So, I plan on retiring from both in 28 years....(ugggh) with 38 total years in.

I think about the hunt as often, if not more than I think about Halloween, my favorite holiday. To give you a clue, I start thinking of Halloween in May, when I wonder why no one has given me any halloween related stuff for my birthday... So if that gives you any idea about how I feel about the hunt....

I spend most of my time catering to my kids and wife... My kids are in Tae Kwon Do, and are a Brown belt, a Purple belt and a blue belt. They have been doing it for the last couple of years.

I don't know what else to tell you,.... if there is anything more specific thast you want to know, just ask!!

I toss the pics of him on cooler times as we get them... Kind figure CM and his amazing picture taking ability might come into play there. The more pics the better.

Thanks and will do.  Sounds like a great idea.  Just lemmy know where and when.  I'll be there for the PDG, in line and at the screening.  Let me know where else.  Maybe out in the park at the actual spot at the RHB?  I like the Kates thing too.  I had the 'honor' of dancing with those babes at the PP last year and it was a riot.  They'll do it up nice.  Same with the Vulcs.  How about Rice Park by the ice sculptures or at the Capitol for the 100yr anniversary?

Also, everyone has been asking for care package ideas for myself and any soldier
not getting must mail.  So here goes some ideas:

* GOOD coffee..if you don't know what good coffee is, please dont send any, show
you support in other ways.  I can ALwAYs find bad coffee.  Ground is fine but I
know to crush a bean if I have too!
* Good sunblock, you really get crap sunblock over her, Coppertone Sport SPF 30
is the BEST!! Sand really doest stick as bad with it.
* gum
* powdered drink packets( ice tea, lemonade, gatoraid)
* Movies on DVD, copies are fine.
* Girl Scout cookies
* homemade treats (in a sealed container or vaccum sealed)
* pens, LOTs and LOTs of pens
* Powerbars and GOO
* seasonal decorations , yes this helps with sainity
* AA and AAA batteries... everyone is out including the PX.
* Magazines (regional, news -time, newsweek, outdoors sports)
* hometown papers( from any where)
* Imodium and Tums.. I like Iraqi food but it doesn't like me.
* Shotgun cleaning items, we just can't get the stuff.  All of our platoon
sergents carry them.
* Hinges, screws, nuts and bolts.   With a 1/3 of the soldiers as carpenters in
the civilian world, we are constantly building things for the barrack area and
orderly rooms (ie desks, shelves, workstations, storage boxes, cabinets) .  If
your cleaning out our garage, just dump it all in mail and we will take care of
it.
* Fishing poles and takle (anything)  we have lots of small lakes and they are

full of fish!

I think we should put his cutout at the beginning of the line.  He can be crowd control/security.

Any more you can tell me about his kids?  I know they like Tae Kwon Do, but what else are they interested in?  I think I can work on some things for the kids.  I have a few ideas right now.

Does he drink?  I can pour his cutout a little bump of Peppermint Schnapps to help warm him up.  Do they allow the guys to receive booze in the mail?  I'd contribute a flask of that so he feels right at home with us.
