fold, you have no clue about me but you insist on personal attacks. I haven't lied about anything here but then you seem to admire liars based on your high opinion of David Brock. Now if JT will let us take the gloves off I will put you in you place.

but Luv@Fly...I am not a guy. Sorry but I just thought I'd mention it.

I agree that one does not have to work hard for something to appreciate it. One merely needs imagination. Look at the third world and you will appreciate that your life is much better.

Looking at old car commercials from the 1950's should be enough. Hate those wings!

Luv@Fly that was a way of indicating the collective attitude needed by those who did not suffer a personal loss. But you did not comment on my contention that was is abiding within needs no outward expression. Running shy of puma wrestling?

Some of them looked pretty good -- 1957 Chevy is the classic, especially the Nomad wagon.

People were Spam in a Can in those cars. Did they even have seat belts?

I wouldn't go more than 30 mph in one of those things.

J.T., those are, respectively, '58 and '55 or '56 wagons. I'll go look for the '57.

No, they didn't have seatbelts.

Bob Lutz - Remarks To The International Motor Press Association Breakfast

...Which brings me to the news. Remember I had news? It involves our global reach, which in this case stretches all the way around the globe to Australia, and our Holden subsidiary.

A group of us went there last month to drive some cars and frankly we liked what we saw, and we loved what we drove. And I can tell you today, that we are definitely planning to bring the Holden Monaro Coupe to America to become the 21st century interpretation of the legendary Pontiac GTO.

I gotta tell ya, I love driving this car. It's got a 5.7-liter V8 and a six-speed transmission, and when it was introduced in Australia last October, it became an instant classic. It is the most sought-after, high profile car on Australian roads right now.

It shares that V8 heritage and a brawny, muscular stance with the classic GTO, and it will make a fine flagship for Pontiac. As we finish up the final work toward sign-off, we anticipate you'll see it as a Pontiac GTO early in the auto show season next year (2003). And sometime after that, it will start appearing in Pontiac dealerships across the country, and I think people will flat-out love driving it...

Moral Values

Dumber-than-Dumbya Bush, the new Duke of Terrorism, states that bin Laden has been "marginalized"? What the hell is that? I'll tell you what it is. It means he and his gang of thugs have absolutely on idea where bin Laden ran off to, or he and his gang of thugs left the back door open for bin Laden to escape.

It is in my opinion that George W Bush is in bin Laden's back pocket and is working part time as Osama's coffee boy.

But you can rely on guys like Andy to tell you that everything is going swimmingly. Fools. Now Dick Cheney wants to dump even more tax dollars on a mission to overthrow Saddam Hussein. Cha-ching! How many more years do we have to go through that one? If these bozos had any military saavy at all they would have taken him out in '91. But then again, no one ever said that these plunderers had any military saavy, or any balls for that matter.

"If these bozos had any military saavy at all they would have taken him out in '91."

You seem to have a short memory. Overthowing the Iraqi government was not the mission in '91. The mission was to liberate Kuwait.

Which is why the sanctions and bombing of Baghdad continued all the way through the Clinton years. After Kuwait was "liberated".

The coalition of nations was following UN resolutions and the war stopped after Iraq withdrew.

The same UN involvement took place after the war, with the sanctions and the oversight to make sure Iraq couldn't re-arm itself and threaten its neighbors.

It's the job of the Iraqi people to get rid of Saddam.

I daresay if Bush I went into Baghdad without the coalition of nations, many people on the left (and most people here consider me on on the left) would have went ballistic.

I see most of this "why-didn't-Bush-get-Saddam-in-'91" talk as people using hindsight for the purpose of political spin.

Always comes back to Hitler.

Hitler and Nazis. Nazis and Hitler.

Give it a break, jethro.

Rick's right, jethro. It is always best to refrain from interfering in other countries. In some cases, however, the people can't or won't rid themselves of a leader who threatens others.

Rick said that it was the Iraqi people must deal with Saddam. My point was that there ARE times that the US must act. One of those times is now with Saddam and Iraw

It is amazing just how OBTUSE liberals really are.

Mon, 04/08/2002 - 7:37 AM Permalink

They are ruled by fear of failure since the consequences are so dire. They therefore do nothing to rid themselves of such rulers.

Conservatives. One only needs to hear the label and certain stereotypes/characteristics come to mind - white, male, of a certain age, and able to talk about 'family values' whilst keeping mistresses and sucking such companies as Enron.
They also go on about states rights - states be damned, states should be abolished as they serve no real and useful purpose. Considering that equal rights for women and minorities required federal legislation, I think I have a case. Imagine, if you will a country where in one state blacks were free to vote etc and in another they weren't. Same thing regarding women. If you don't care then substitute MEN. If men could only vote in Montana, what would the nation look like?

They also go on about states rights - states be damned, states should be abolished as they serve no real and useful purpose. They serve as a check on federal power.Considering that equal rights for women and minorities required federal legislation, I think I have a case. It was doen by a usurpation of power by the feds. It ignored the Constitution. If you want to live in a world not governed by rules but based on naked power I say you should move. We don't need your kind here.Imagine, if you will a country where in one state blacks were free to vote etc and in another they weren't. Same thing regarding women. If you don't care then substitute MEN. If men could only vote in Montana, what would the nation look like? If you didn't like it move to a differennt state. It is clear that you don't care about rules only the result you want. It is called selfishness. You represent it quite well.

<
<They fear they will fail. So they play it safe and do not even try.>>

Are you talking about people who believe in a cause and therefore demand federal legislation because it's too hard to get individual states to go along with them? That's exactly why the Constitution limits federal power and gives great autonomy to the states. It's closer to home, so the people of each state have more control and can decide for themselves.

If you think back, you were all going on about why Saddam wasn't ousted by his people after losing the Gulf War. That was why. Fatalsim.

And if jethro could try to remain coherent for a moment and if he attempted to think, actually think, he will find that states really aren't much of a brake on federal power at all so why pay taxes, pay licensing fees and so on - just an expendable layer of government- middle managament or just another level for corruption. A waste of time.

And what sensible person argues a point with the whine 'if you don't like it just move' & and 'We don't like your kind.' jethro you are so lame.

As usual the liberals don't understand. The states at one time WERE THE brake on federal power. As for a waste of time I know about that. It happens everytime I read one of your posts!

if you will go to the abortion debate, you will find that I've hoisted you with your own petard.
too easy, of course, but I did enjoy it.

love these non-arguments! 'liberals never understand'. Do you whine like this often, or only in here? Perhaps they used to be but now, the states could be in name only and few would notice any difference beyond only having to file one tax return per year.

As usual the liberals don't have a real concept of how the country developed. Because of trhat they don't understand what the danger is with an all powerful central government.

Calling someone a liberal is calling someone a "name?"

Fri, 04/12/2002 - 8:17 AM Permalink
jethro bodine

What you have to do, in addition to just calling me names, is to prove that the states are effective NOW to the extent that we should still pay for them.

Did I say the states were? No. I said that was one of the functions of the state that has been diminished by the federal government and it is directly related to the outcome of the civil war. States used to be very effective in limiting federal power. That was how it was designed and that is the way it still SHOULD be.

And the way in which you use the term 'liberal' makes it a slur. As if they were brain dead instead of merely having different priorities than you do.

Then you jethro are a scrophulous offal-eating toad whose brain functions go no higher than an operative brain stem and even that is being generous. You are, in addition to the above, pidiculous and not in the least calipigeonic.

scrophulous means morally corrupt; degenerate. That isn't very NICE!!!!!

I could not find calipigeonic, either. Kit must have meant "callipygian" which means having shapely buttocks. I guess I should thank kit for the compliment!

I wonder what she thought
As she stood there, strong and tall.
She couldn't turn away,
She was forced to watch it all.

Did she long to offer comfort
As her country bled?
With her arm forever frozen
High above her head.

She could not shield her eyes
She could not hide her face
She just stared across the water
Keeping Freedom's place.

The smell of smoke and terror
Somehow reduced her size
So small within the harbor
But still we recognized...

How dignified and beautiful
On a day so many died
I wonder what she thought,
And I know she must have cried...

I cried

This is something to think about! Since America
is typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his
Muslim passages...
The following verse is from the Quran, (the Islamic Bible)

Quran (9:11) -- For it is written that a son of
Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be
felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the
people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of
the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

Note the verse number!!!!!)
