Just in case ya missed it Bill. That's Europe and Asia. You can edit it all you like but that's a FACT.
You're right though, because Bush proposed it it must be bad. It makes perfect sense to have a troop strength based on a cold war that's been over for a decade. We aren't leaving altogehter, it's a quicker and more lethal force that will be there. It also will be a hell of alot easier on military families not to mention save money. Yea, it's a horrible idea. ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - The United States and its allies have moved closer to capturing Osama bin Laden in the last two months, a top U.S. counterterrorism official said in a television interview broadcast Saturday.
"If he has a watch, he should be looking at it because the clock is ticking. He will be caught," Joseph Cofer Black, the U.S. State Department coordinator for counterterrorism, told private Geo television network.
Asked if concrete progress had been made during the last two months - when Pakistan has arrested dozens of terror suspects including some key al-Qaida operatives - Black said, "Yes, I would say this."
Black, who briefed a group of Pakistani journalists after talks with officials here Friday, said he could not predict exactly when bin Laden and other top al-Qaida fugitives would be nabbed.
(AP) Joseph Cofer Black smiles to cameras as he arrives at Ankara's Esenboga airport in this Oct. 1,... Full Image"What I tell people, I would be surprised but not necessarily shocked if we wake up tomorrow and he's been caught along with all his lieutenants. That can happen because of the programs and infrastructure in place," he told Geo.
Bin Laden and his top associate, Ayman al-Zawahri, are believed to be hiding some place along the rugged border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Officials have divulged no solid intelligence about bin Laden's precise whereabouts, and it's not clear if they have any.
Pakistan is a key ally of the United States in its war on terror, and Black's visit comes weeks after Pakistani security forces captured Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, a Tanzanian wanted for the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in east Africa, and Mohammed Naeem Noor Khan, a Pakistani computer expert allegedly linked to al-Qaida operatives around the world.
The arrests led to a terror warning in the United States, and arrests in Britain and the United Arab Emirates.
Black attended a meeting of the Pakistan-U.S. Joint Working Group on Counterterrorism and Law Enforcement in Islamabad on Thursday and Friday.
During the talks, Pakistan asked U.S. officials for more helicopters, surveillance and communications equipment to help Pakistani forces guard border areas near Afghanistan "more efficiently," a Pakistani official at the talks said.
"We got a positive response from the American officials," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Pakistan has deployed about 70,000 troops along the Afghan border and conducted several military operations this year in its lawless and largely autonomous tribal regions against al-Qaida suspects and their local supporters.
Black hailed Pakistan's efforts in counterterrorism - despite criticism from Western officials who say that elements of the former ruling Taliban regime in Afghanistan still operate inside Pakistan.
"In terms of national programs and effectiveness, I would put Pakistan up against anyone else ... If you look at the arrests they have made, the information they have developed and the lives that have been saved, Pakistan is doing a great job," he said.
He added, however, that, "you can always do more."
Yes, well, I also heard a rumor that the Clintons have known all along that Bill had a heart condition and are scheduling his surgery now to take the spotlight away from John Kerry at this crucial time to hurt his chances so he'll lose so Hillary can run in 2008 yada yada yada...
The old man as you put it fold is Indian Larry he died a week ago if you know bikes like you say you do you would know of him. And it's very nice of you to disrespect the dead, of course that suits you as they can't defend them selves. Punk!!
Does anyone even care that soon, over 1000 young men and women will have lost their lives over there, and another 7000+ who have been dismembered or maimed, yet we STILL do not have ANY idea how to fetch the bastard that bombed us?? Why don't "WE" post on that info, or even devote a topic to them ???
I care
I think what they're doing in Iraq is noble and respectable and worth fighting for.
I think asking if anyone cares about the 1,000 dead and 7,000 maimed is a bit like asking if you like to club baby seals. I would think everyone cares. It's more in the forefront for some probably. I have close friends and family who are there right now so there isn't a day or hour that passes without me thinking of them and the ones who have died. My cousin is due back next week or so. I can't wait to see him. A few friends I have talked to have come back and are gone again. They don't want to go of course but are willing to do so because they want to finish the job. There's so much of what we are doing that is unseen and unreported. Needless to say that to a man they all have said in one way or another that what we are doing is the right thing and are proud of how we are doing it. They more than anyone mourn the loss of their fallen Marines and soldiers. They loved them stronger than brothers and miss them like there's no tomorrow and have the guilt associated with being spared. No matter what one tells them it will be with them forever.
They also see the bigger picture too, of course they want their friends back, but they also witness firsthand how we are changing the mindset and attitudes towards the U.S. Is it worth it? Only time will tell. The sacrifice made by these men and their families is extrordinay. As Churchhill said, never has so much been owed by so many to so few. It may take years to see more tangible results in the M.E. The option if inaction or keeping the status quo was not a viable option. The fact is we ARE still looking for Bin Laden. We'd have the same amount of troops there today as we would if we'd never set foot in Iraq. I remember the predictions based on how the Russians were bogged down there for 12 years too. If he's in Pakistan which he probably is, it makes it even harder. Claiming that we're not looking for him does a disservice to the men who are there today in harms way. So does not bringing up the losses in Afghanistan as well.Â
I figured you might see throughthe hyperbole of yesterday's bullshit rants. I see that I was wrong. By the way... I am and always have been, FOR the WOT in Afghanistan. I have neversaid otherwise..
I gave you my opinion to the question you pestered everyone to answer in numerous posts. Sorry if you don't like it. I addressed nothing in yesterdays posts. Not a thing, so where you get that from, I don't know and frankly don't care. I also never said you were against Afghanistan. My reference to that was directed at the people who somehow feel we're not looking for Bin Laden. It's not all about you.Â
IÂ WILL keep talking about those who have died, because I believe that unless we do, we learn NOTHING. When I was 20 or so, we TOO were told that the fall of S. Vietnam would be THE most terrible thing that could ever happen to S.E. Asia, and eventually the Communists, would take over all of that area and then come for US.
It was bullshit then, and it's bullshit now.
I'll pass your sentiments along to the guys over there now.
Well the 3 million or so murdered at the hands of the communits after S.V fell, might tend to disagree that it was bad thing.
That's one of the loonier tinfoil theories of the left. Well other than Afghanistan was invaded for a pipeline and Bush knew of 9-11 and what luck! We were attacked giving us the perfect cover story!. It ranks up there though. People don't realize the improbability of a conspiracy like that. If they had him as Mike Moore suggests or knew where he was it would stay secret for about 41/2 minutes. They might very well be close or closer to capturing him. He's got support of many locals and money to spend to hide to buy loyalty. There's people without all that support in the US we can't find, doesn't mean they give up looking either.
My personal opinion is that he's dead as a doornail. We've had recordings and no video. The video we have had has a voice dubbed over it instead of just audio from the tape. So with all the money the guy has, he apprently doesn't have a camcorder with a built in mic? If he was alive we'd see more video's and islamoidiot training and firebrand speeches, there have been none IMO. I think he's dead and AlQueida is keeping his myth alive like Kaiser Sosei. That's my guess anyway. If he is alive he's not in Afghanistan, he's probably in Pak or has slipped out of the area ll together.
It just seems strange to me. Three years since 9/11 and there's stories floating around that they're close to catching him, at this time, in the middle of a heated election.
I don't know that wondering about it is so strange.
Yes and there's been allot of stories speculation that he was close to being caught well before that going back to 2002. But now it's suddenly just political ? If it was, they'd be better off not saying anything until they pull him from his cave and put his mug on CNN. They know that.
It's still my best guess that he's worm food. If not he's not in Afghanistan.
Yes and there's been allot of stories speculation that he was close to being caught well before that going back to 2002. But now it's suddenly just political ?
If you mean in the conventional way where one side surrenders and signs a peace treaty, no it is not "winable". If you are asking, "Are we going to kick their arses?", then yes, it is winable that way.

Nice Job GDUbbya
.
Â
maybe.....but I highly doubt it.......
It would be the worst thing if he was already dead and we don't know it....even his cronnies know that.......
The latest headlines all over the various media outlets is that the United States has now sustained 1,000 casualties in Iraq. One thousand! What a huge number, right? Well not really, but more on that in a minute. To hear the media tell it, you would think that 1,000 U.S. troops just died yesterday. Of course, the truth is much different, but reporting the truth doesn't help The Poodle, now does it?
Operation Iraqi Freedom is now only 18 months old. In that time, we have liberated a country of 25 million people, overthrown a murderous regime and installed an interim government. We have done all of this with the loss of 1,000 troops. While every lost life is tragic, that number is lower than every single estimate that was made before the war. There were talking heads predicting a loss of 10,000 U.S. lives during the invasion alone. So we're supposed to believe that after a year and a half, only 1,000 is somehow a failure? I think not.
Then you have morons comparing Iraq to Vietnam...which shows their stupidity. 58,000 lives lost over the course of a decade is not the same thing as Iraq. Besides...we've won the war in Iraq by every measure of success.
But really, this has nothing to do with casualties, the war in Iraq, or Bush's handling of it. This is just the media following their template...running stories that hurt Bush in the hopes of electing The Poodle to the Oval Office. -Neal Boortz
So now we've seen the video. Russia released video taken from inside the school where Islamic terrorists rounded up hundreds of innocent school children, and then proceeded to slaughter the kids. Even though the media is trying to hide the fact that these Chechnyan "separatists" are actually Arab terrorists, the pictures don't lie.
So what do we see? The video shows hundreds of people (many of them children) huddled in a gymnasium while these psychotic Islamic terrorists string bombs all over the place. The broadcast on Russian television spoke of more than 1,500 hostages, the first time they have admitted how big it all was. Blood is show on the floor of the gym, apparently from a body being dragged across the floor. Boy, those "rebels" really are just misunderstood people...if only we were nice to them, maybe they wouldn't shoot innocent children.
In an interview with a British newspaper, Russian President Vladimir Putin exploded over the situation, apparently upset at the United States for granting asylum to a Chechen separatist. "Why don't you meet Osama bin Laden, invite him to Brussels or to the White House and engage in talks, ask him what he wants and give it to him so he leaves you in peace?" Putin said yesterday. Sounds about right. Terrorists are terrorists...and it's time to exterminate them wherever they roam.
Hopefully Russia's response won't be one of appeasement. Doesn't sound like it. Perhaps they'll retaliate without worrying about offending anyone. Maybe they will understand that terrorism cannot be tolerated, and they won't care what the rest of the "international community" (Old Europe and the U.N.) has to say about it. People have a right to not stand for their children being randomly shot dead by these bloodthirsty Islamic killers.
They need to show those videos over and over and over again on television, all over the world. It should serve as a reminder to all civilized societies that all of these Islamic fascists should be eliminated. Not appeased, not negotiated with, not understood, not arrested and not prosecuted, but wasted. By the way, contrary to what the media says, this has nothing to do with independence in Chechnya or anywhere, it's all about Islamic terrorists doing what they do best: killing innocent people in the name of Allah.
If I were Putin, I'd level the place. How's that for your "more sensitive War on Terror," Mr. Kerry? -Neal Boortz
The accounts of what happened inside that school are beyong sickening. Bayoneting a kid because she asked for water for fuck sakes. What is wrong with these fucking people! Sorry, they're not people, they're vile pieces of filth. I don't think anyone can grasp the level of hate these people have. To actually do this intentionally to a kid is beyond the pale. Hopefully out of the tragedy comes something good, like the rest of the world (except places dealing with it for years ie: Israel) waking up to what is really at stake here. From what I've read, the attacks and methods were so heinous that it even some of the normal apologists for Islamic extremism are either mute or showing their dismay.
I admit not following the Chechneya siutuation closely over the years. But I do know that whatever international sympathy they had for their cause just went by-by. Same with the Palestinans. I wouldn't say a word if they boarded up their homes and shipped them all to some other country that would take them. The Russians have a habit of being less than P.C so their response should be interesting to say the least. Â
The pieces of shit that did this are animals. Reasoning with them is akin to reasoning with a rottwieler to give back his steak bone. You can try it but it's not advisable. France thought it was immune because of the aid they gave Saddamn. Wrong, they're just as much targets as they are now sadly learning. Sooner or later you're going to piss off a jihadi no matter what you do, well short of converting and killing yourself that is. I wonder what it will take for some to get it. Perhaps another incident like this in their backyard. I hope not.
Then they ought to come home from Japan too...right(?)

Again Bill, those 70,000 aren't all from Europe. Oh yea I can't read, that's right.

U.S. Near Seizing bin Laden, Official Says

Should we be looking at October for a capture of bin Laden?
Anytime is fine by me, and I don't care if he's alive or taking a dirt nap.

Should I be suspicious of the timing of these stories that the United States is near capture, so close to the, ahem election.
That ranks right up there with the "Bush planned 9/11" & "They killed Wellstone".
I'm just asking.
Not the least bit curious, JT? Answer truthfully, now.

Didn't know I was being bad.
It just seems strange to me. Three years since 9/11 and there's stories floating around that they're close to catching him, at this time, in the middle of a heated election.
I don't know that wondering about it is so strange.
Those stories of them being close to catching them have been circulating since last year.
But the most recent one was 9/4 with a fairly high-ranking official who was named in the story.

So is it "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time"Â or is it a part of "the war on terror"?

If you mean in the conventional way where one side surrenders and signs a peace treaty, no it is not "winable". If you are asking, "Are we going to kick their arses?", then yes, it is winable that way.
Bingo!
It's probably not winable in that we can't say we'll never have another terrorist attack.
It's winable in that we will seek and destroy those that do attack.
[Edited 2 times. Most recently by on Sep 8, 2004 at 05:13am.]
But Dick Cheney just said that if we don't reelect him, we risk being attacked again. That means that if we do reelect him, we won't.
Either that or he's talking out of his ass trying to scare people into voting for him.
We do risk being attacked again if Kerry is elected. He's soft on terrorism.
What did Kerry say a while back? Something like he would respond with great force if America is attacked again?
WTF! He's going to wait for that to happen before he does anything?
All terrorists are licking their chops if he's elected.

maybe.....but I highly doubt it.......
I hope not.

OK, he tries to score political points on a tragedy by training his anger on Kerry.
Pathetic, Boortz. You had better stuff when I listened to you.
We risk attack if Bush is Re-elected.
He's gonna be too busy starting another war with another country to follow through on his so-called "war on terrorism".
We risk attack regardless of who is in office. It's merely a matter of degree of how much risk and the responses if such an attack happens.
We WILL be hit again. It's merely a matter of time IMO.
