see!! i always knew i was the messiah!

seriously though, i'm actualyl working out the kinks on something based on phpbb i've got directly under coolercrew.com. i'm waiting for the next version of the software to come out, as it is supposed to support sub-folders like we've got here, and a bunch of other things. i'll have to track down mods for per-forum and per-thread access control. and we'll have something set up, like so many other groups around here do, as a backup for the site.

Is that a browser? Where do I get it? what's different between that and internet explorer?

Oh, and you might want to turn cookies off in your preferences.

Agreed, I finally made the switch to Firefox. Was a little leery as they originally didn't have a port for the yahoo toolbar (I use the bookmarks on yahoo, that way I can save any interesting pages at work and view em at home). But they created a port of it now. Takes a little getting used to, but in the end, it's just a web browser. And most web viruses target IE, so firefox is a good deterrent.

can I open IE and firefox at the same time???

Yep.

You can also install Netscape Navigator/Communicator, and have four browsers working at once.

IE is still my least favorite browser.

I just didn't want to download firefox this week and be screwed if I had issues.....(next week)

Wed, 01/19/2005 - 12:53 PM Permalink
THX 1138

You won't have any issues.

Nah, as far as installs go, firefox was pretty smooth and non invasive. Whenever you install another browser, you need to have a default one (whenever you open a saved link in windows, it opens in the default browser). Just pay attention to that setting on install

KITCH

I'm sure I won't after  you said that I can have it and IE open at the same time...

I was just worried about Firewalls, Virus protections, etc....

Wed, 01/19/2005 - 1:02 PM Permalink
KC0GRN

Virus protection is more computer based than browser. Security settings are pretty much setup on install, and the defaults in firefox are usually fine. Shouldn't have a problem with a firewall, anything you see in IE should popup in firefox.

I've never noticed it to be slow, and I've only HAD to install a few plugins, but they have some pretty cool plugins I've installed because I wanted to.

I love it!

Oh, and ESD, screw you Hippy!

I'm just starting to train myself on firefox to wean myself over to more open source applications. At home I'm now using GIMP, Firefox, Open Office, and Blender 3D, they're all open source. Eventually my idea is to finally make the switch to Linux, but switching cold turkey is tough, gotta do it in increments.

I personally do not believe the weather forcasters anymore. I've been learning how to read the airport channel.
My husband is singing a "tilted windmills" song. It's really bad.
