It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
Terry
New Daddy!!! Great seeing you back here for another year of hunting fun!
Hi Everyone!
Just a couple more days to go till the first clue tells us whether we look just in St. Paul or expand our search area to the county.
If it is outside the city, our resources thin out a bit. The Community Pages in the Phone Book only tell you so much! Hey Guide Book Man, are you thinking of expanding the guide for future years to include county parks? I'd be interested in helping you, if you ever go that route. This hunt is all I can talk about with friends anymore. It's amazing how the fever strikes so quickly and consumes you! Unfortunately I don't think I can make it to the bash but perhaps some of my digging partners will. I'll be theorizing on line if anyone wants to chat more when you get home from McGovern's!
Why do you think Linwood allready? The first clue has not come out yet. Tiny Thumbs, I hear ya. I can't stop talking about it at work, and my girl friend just about hit me when I told her I can not see her for 13 days. LOL My people at work think that I am going crazy they have never heard of it before. Dang, they just don't know what they are missing out on. I am Ready to DIG!
It hasn't been out of St. Paul since the 80's and there is certainly no shortage of hiding places in St. Paul. Thus, I'm not sure it will ever appear outside the city ever again. As for where in the city it might be, that's just speculation and gut feelings, with a dash of "Where hasn't it been in a while?" thrown in.
Steve, hold me a book. I'll get it Sat nite!!! THANKS!!!
And we're all comin' home!!! Like good wido Diggers! Don'tcha LOVE it? We may roam over the summer, but chews can always find us rite here ever Med Hunt.
Gods, I love this place!
My boss is from WAY far west... And like has this notion I've got to give the XACT days I'll be out hunting! Like, impossible! You go dig when an idea hits.
Sheesh! Guess me and MJ will be basket cases from here until the end.
Think MomPlanet will flub it again this year and post the First Clue too early? Would be nice! :)
Terry, I couldn't find a set of four buttons, so got four 'singles.' Had to pay two BOCKS xtra, but thass otay. Goes to a good cause, don'tchaknow! I yust wanted to make sure I had all the designs.
Ya'll notice there's a GREEN button??? :) Thass the ONE I'm wearing!
I KNOW a Cooler Crew Member's gonna find The Med this year! My first choice is Ter. She's an empassioned woman on a mission - not to mention she's always so damn close. Law of averages.
My second choice is DDY. One of these days he's gonna realize that when somebody picks him up and moves him 5 feet and starts digging where he was standing yust moments before that he's a dowsing rod for The Blue Puck.
Third choice izz Mom and Dad.
Me? I'll bee with Bee in the Frog Pond.
My resolution this year? I will NOT read too much into the Clues! Really!
I just wanted to thank everyone one for their comments and suggestions about my web page.
I have been informed by the Pioneer Press that I will not be allowed to post the current clues on my web page. This will make my "Current Clue Analysis" page a little less appealing to look at. It will contain a link the the clues at the Pioneer Planet and my thoughts about the clues.
I would also like to remind you that when the clues start getting really good, I'll be out in the park instead of at my computer. I'll try to check back in on a regular basis, but there's no money to be made at the computer when there's $10,000 out in the park.
I'll do my best to keep the web page up to date during the hunt, but I make no promises.
It would be nice if one of us regulars on this board found the medallion this year. I, too, can't make it to the bash. Have to attend a birthday party but I really wish I could be with you hunters that will be able to make it. I'll be thinking of you. We'll all be pretty busy once the first clue is posted; however, don't forget to pick up the daily papers for each clue's clipping. It would be kinda nice to be able to determine who's been on this board just to match faces with names. I mainly wear white earmuffs and a badge with Treasure Digger on it. Met a few of you last year and was great to discuss strategies in person for a change. I hope it warms up a little.
Snow for tomorrow isn't expected to amount to much. My guess again is the north or west sides of Ramsey County. It's been hidden in the south and east the last few years. My boss laughs at me because I get so excited about the hunt. It's hard to believe how many people who have lived in Minnesota all their lives do not get involved in the hunt or the carnival. I've lived here since 1988 and have been hunting for many years. I do admit that being able to talk over the clues on line is a great help. Anxiously waiting to start treasure digging.
Are you sure the paper is going to be released at 11:35 pm? When I called the Pioneer Press today, the operator said that the newspaper will be available for pick-up sometime between 11:00 and 12:00. I probably wasn't talking to the right person. Hopefully the newspaper will clarify things a little in tomorrow's paper. I think that they usually have an article in paper on the day before the hunt.
I just noticed that the new header states "just after midnight". What a bummer!!! I'm planning on buying the daily paper, but having to wait even a half hour later is too cruel of us water cooler people. Some of us do have to work (although that's never stopped me from staying up) the next morning. I thought 11:30 PM was a better time to release it on-line. What can we do, right? It's their game -- and WE LOVE IT!!! Very little goes on at my house for the duration of the hunt. House chores are forbidden until the medallion is found. We have a good ground cover that will more than likely stay for the entire hunt. Makes hunting more challenging. It's nice to see more of the regular names here from the last couple of years. I'm sure I'll be talking with everyone more often, especially tomorrow night.
So whats the gig on Saturday night, I have discussed clues over the last few years online but have never attented a function. Is it open to all?
Ever since I can remember the paper was released somewhere downtown at 11:35pm and they are in business to sell papers so I bet that is why they will not post it online till after midnight.
It may be their game, but our paper gets delivered in the morning...and waiting till after midnight for the clue is not my idea of fun. You need to get the clue and head to the park and then dig, turn in the medallion, get to bed and wake up again to head to work. 11:30 was late enough!!! Though I'm sure there is nothing we can do about that, it's not making me too happy.
Duff - Saturday's gig...and the rehash bash after the hunt are open to anyone who wants to participate. If you think you can make it...(See my tag line)...let us know here or to Allison by e-mail so we can add you to the list. We just need to let McGovern's know about numbers.
And just after midnight on Saturday the 22nd....isn't that like right after midnight very early Saturday morning??? That means we'll have the clue long before we get to McGovern's!!! :-)
Jake, I sleeps when I can... Which isn't much! But gots to do some sleeping... Have to stay sharp.. LOL!!! Sharp as a tack, that's me... NOT! :)
Ter, isn't after midnight on Saturday early Sunday a.m.??? We'll still be at McGovern's won't we?
Sat/Sun's gonna be such a let down. I get ssssooo hetup for the clues and then ssssoooo deflated when the First Clue's out and we're going, "Otay. Ramsey County.
Yup." I wish there'd be more to noodle! Ittiz ssssuuuucccchhhhh a LLLLOOOONNNNNGGGGG time between clues!
After midnight on Saturday is Saturday! After midnight....if what they mean to say is after the evening on Saturday...it should read just after midnight early Sunday morning.
OH! Gotcha! Symantics! Whatever, I bet we get the clue at McGovern's as it usually comes out on a Sat nite... Oh, well! Never mind!
We'll prolly have to noodle and run - Mc's will be tossing us out shortly after The Clue comes out.
I'm gonna keep *my* clues in a little plastic bag... Zip Lock (R), so they don't get wet...
Question... What happens if you're out hunting all nite, don't get a paper, and find The Med at 7:30 a.m. - and you don't have *that* day's clue on you?
And... Did anybuddy else notice that the cards The Buttons come on do *not* say nary a thang about having to have The Clues on ya to get an xtra $2,500????
Nope. Yust says register/find = $10,000.
Fine kettle o'fish there...
Not like *I'm* gonna tempt Fate and try and prove a point. Nope. $10,000's a lot o'money!
Ya know, I talked on this thing all last year, durning the hunt and I am doing it again this year. I have never heard anything about having to have the clues on you. Can someone please infrom me as to what this means? Do I have to buy a paper every day? Or can I just print them off of the Web Page? I am getting lost.. Please help, I need to foocus all my attention on the clues. Thanks P.S. Welcome Green it has been a long time since I have chated with you. I was wondering if you were going to come and chat on here? I guess I could have guessed you would but you started makeing me Nervous.
Phillip - If you read the rules here....PP's Winter Carnival page! you'll see it mentioned that for additional money, you need to have each day's new clue clipped and bring that with you when you claim the prize.
Have no fear though....It'll be me and Inks heading downtown with the medallion this year!
Hey You Guys, you'd almost think there is a prize out ther hidden in some park to be found that is worth about 10K.... What a deal. Let's start digging.......
Phillip... MOI???? NOT HUNT??? Fear not, kind Sir! I could no more stay away from here than donkeys fly! Ittiz good to see you bock! Ain't it grand? HUNT TIME! :) Brings us all bock like the big happy fam we are.
Radar... Izz that YOU??????????????? HAY, STRANGER!!!! Ittiz ssssooooo good to see you! YOU DIG? :)
You gonna bee out digging this year, or yust lurking? He who lurks does not get picture in paper! LOL!!!
Anybuddy own Sorels? I asked MJ this and she wasn't fur certain sure:
Can I warsh my Sorel liners in the warshing machine and dry them in the dryer? They've gotten matted down, you know, from wearing? I'd like to fluff them up sos they're all thermal-y and warmer. But I don't want to ruin them...
Radar, I've been pretty good. Been putting one foot in front o'the udder. Planning the garden yet again... LOL!!! Been doing some 'fishing' and started up a tank left here three years ago... I told you about me trying for a new job? Well, ittiz mine! I love it still, but ittiz really weird sometimes...
And I'm gonna listen to YOU? He-Who-Knows-Diddly-About-Weather? I've big feet. I listen to you, I bet those Sorel liners would fit a Barbie doll! And she I ain't!
MJ and I are noodling when we can *safely* disengage from financial pursuits to Hunt. My boss has said I HAVE to let him know the xact days I'll be gone. SHEESH! That's sssssooo hard! If you want, I'll let you know when I'm going... I'm thinking, MJ's been a HUGE help here (no comments from the Peanut Gallery! LOL!!!), that it won't bee beefore Thursday, maybee Friday. Then may take off the all of the following week. Tho... Then again, it may not bee beefore a week from Monday! WWWWAAAAA! Don't know. Depends on the clues...
Otay. Warsher. No dryer. Still... I'm gonna see what udder advice I get... Radar, you're a doll, but I just can't find it in me to trust you after that HORRIBLE storm!!!!
Gottcha, on the Hunting!
Have you seen we're getting together tomorrow night? The usual Pre-Hunt get-together... Can you make it? Ittiz gonna be fun! MJ tells me Allison's cooking up a fun time! (He always does.)
On the Sorrels, most just buy new liners... but us poor folks have to wash em... You'll see.........
As to the pre Hash, I've got a prievious engagment... sorry, would like to be there, but time is limited... Will try to catch you when you find the Medallion... (with my
I'm still waiting on udder's opinions, Radar, re: those liners. Not that I'm a Doubting Thomasina or anything... LOL!!!
Daily clues in baggie???? Those clues are gonna be worth more than a quarter, Buster!
Whatever...
Radar, I'm bookin' for the nite. HOPE to see you around here during The Hunt. I'll be spending like EVERY available hour here I can. Have to give Ms./Mr. Valentine a run fur their money! <g>
I'm off to Spades/Gin!
Yap with you soon, Radar? And he who doesn't Dig, doesn't find The Med! LOL!!!
Wow, so much more conversation that about 3 days ago. FEVER is heating up! I am still pissy that I cannot make it on Sat. but oh well. I did not read about this "after 12:00am deal" will someone clearify this for me. Thanks

Hay, Allison!!! Nice to see you again!
I was unner the impression it was earlier in years past... Like wasn't it 11:30 p.m.???
Oh, well. Guess if ittiz your game, you can have whatever rules you want! Tho I'm gonna hate staying up that late! :)
And a two pair Joe!
Ah! The thrills o'the Hunt! :)
Green, You sleep during the hunt?
Hi all, I for one am tired of walking and digging all around the valued treasure and look forward to picking it up this year.
I'll bet they moved back the posting time of the clues this year in order to sell more papers at 11:35pm.
Are you sure the paper is going to be released at 11:35 pm? When I called the Pioneer Press today, the operator said that the newspaper will be available for pick-up sometime between 11:00 and 12:00. green- I have absolutely no idea....sorry!
Ya Green It's Me... long time no read... Must be digging time again... And yes, I may get out there and try my luck...
As for the liners... they can be done on a *gentle* cycle and hang dried, not in the dryer... Good luck..
How you been doing????
Thanks, snostar... :)
Radar, I've been pretty good. Been putting one foot in front o'the udder. Planning the garden yet again... LOL!!! Been doing some 'fishing' and started up a tank left here three years ago... And the liners will survive fine if you do not put them in the dryer... then keep the toes warm and comfy...
Ya, I'm figuring later in the week or early in the next before the clues lead to the right park... then it's only to find the location...
I'll be out there later, may run into you again... That would be nice... <g>
Otay. Warsher. No dryer. Still... I'm gonna see what udder advice I get... Radar, you're a doll, but I just can't find it in me to trust you after that HORRIBLE storm!!!!

JOE!
Ah, yes! The Hunt is on! I'm already looking forward to Ian's "Sloppy Joe Medallion's" (R). You just can't help but love this place!
On the Sorrels, most just buy new liners... but us poor folks have to wash em... You'll see.........
As to the pre Hash, I've got a prievious engagment... sorry, would like to be there, but time is limited... Will try to catch you when you find the Medallion... (with my
hand out.. <g>).... Is that a deal???
NO!!!
I find, I keep. Besides, Terry thinks ittiz in the bag for her and Inks... Or in the earmuffs...
Well... *You* can shake my hand to congratulate me for finding it, but share? I stink NOT! LOL!!!
Gee, that was rude o'me. I'm sorry. How much did you say that course for weatherology was????? Gods know you need it! <smirk>
We'll miss you, Radar. You've been gone too long from us. I'll have a beer/lemonade for you. HOPE you can make the Re-Hash Bash. You've never made one
o'those, have you? They're kind'a meloncoly (sp), but well worth it. Tons o'fun! MUCH better food than McGovern's! LOL!!!
Well, if you got the daily clues in the baggie, that will take care of me just fine....
And, do the liners in *warm* water, not hot... OK ???
PS: I'll try and keep open for the Re-Hash Bash.... nothing on the plate yet... hope to keep it that way... will see..
LOL!!!
And yet, again, another nice pair for green!
Catch you later... I'm off to dream land myself ....
Dig in your dreams... and make it real....!!!!!!!!
Till next time...
I go off shopping and miss Radar. Figures.
And it won't be in earmuffs! NO!!! Can't even think of that.
I haven't a clue about Sorel liners. Have never had any so don't know anything about them. Does Sorel have a web site to check out?
