Do you really think the rocket scientists that are park security know where the thing is? For the money they make, if that were the case, they would turn in their keys immediately and pick it up themselves!!!
Lifter there is a statue in como of some guy named schiller looked it up and i found a guy from denmark that was a civil rights buff, other than that i dunno
theirs a land mark memorial to WW1 at the beginging of the scenic trail that starts at sumut and goes to hidden falls if that helps. ive been to newell, but im not sure about tennir courts.
Just look at every other year's clues. They never mean this much, this early. And clue #1 never means anything except to state the boundaries of the hunt in almost clear english
Well I did some digging tonight. The other two members of my crew are AWOL, however, one wasn't feeling well....the other drunk and disrespectful...so what can I say...better luck tommorow. Good night all!
Laughter will help in our long search, both mental and physical, for our prize so how about a joke. Its clean, but i always laugh. It's this pirates first day with his new ship and crew. He is givin many remedial tasks to keep him busy, but finally he is told he gets to meet the captain. Relieved of his tasks he gladly walks to the captains quarters. He opens the door and sees a man standin there with a peg leg, a hook for an arm, and a patch on his eye. The man cannot hold back his anticipation and asks the captain whats with the leg. "AARRRGGHHH, was in a bad storm, fell overboard and a shark bit off me leg." That answers that question for the man, he then inquires about the mans hook. "AARRRGGHHH, was a knife fit, and i lost me had." The pirate accepts that answer but you know for sure he is gonna ask about the patch, and he does. "AARRRGGGHH," replied the captain," Was a sunny day, looked up, bird pooped in my eye,........(long pause for effect)....... was my first day with the hook" Well g'nite
Well, after sleeping on it, the thing that strikes me is the second line. "If your grasp of these clueS is astute..." They refer to the clues plural instead of saying "If your grasp of THIS CLUE is astute". This makes me think that setting your own pace might refer to some kind of word game that involves all the clues. I have one guess right now, but it seems like a bit of a stretch. Let's just say though if tonight's clue starts with the letter "E", I'll be out digging tomorrow.
Allison, do you think they'd try spelling something out. That's one of the first things that I look for and I'd probably bet pretty much everyone else would look for that as well. I'm not saying that they wouldn't starting spelling the location, but it would be too easy to figure out. I think they enjoy toying with us for a while. I wouldn't starting really looking for actual useful hints until the 5 or so clue. That's when we usually have it down to a few parks. I'm behind you all the way if you're onto something.
Reading some past posts, my comment is that if the park is locked and the medallion is actually hidden there, the park will remain open just for the hunt. As far as any security personnel knowing if the medallion is hidden in their park, my comment is no one knows where the medallion is hidden than the two people who hid it. That's the information I received from an employee of the PP. I've been reading into the clue and I just keep running into circles. They know they leave it so open for almost anything we think of to fit. I have to admit, you guys are good at throwing out ideas. What is more impressing is that you're so quick. I'm the book worm type of person. I pull out the past clues, maps, and dictionary, you name it. I make a list for each clue of any ideas that work and continue for each clue. I hope you're onto something, Allison.
They might be spelling something, but not as clearly as when it was Battle Creek. Hence, "Set your own pace" possibly refers to reading it in a different way, like an anagram. At this point I'm not too sure about that theory, unless my guess about the letter E proves correct. I do have some other sketchy reasons to believe in this park, but if I'm right, it seems like it would be a lot of information in just two clues, especially for a small park, so another reason to not be sure about it. But I do think the fact they said "clues" is important, and there is a word game, even if its not the one I'm thinking of.
Bringing up a previous hunt, setting your own pace could refer to an "iconoclast"...meaning it's hidden somewhere where it hasn't been hidden before. Ace...the flying idea isn't a bad one...near the airport. Race...could mean the standard: running trails, skiing, etc... Let's also not forget that the first letter of the clues could plainly spell out something, and then retract it towards the end by saying "no or not," as in previous years. Would Mom tip her hand so early in the hunt, Allison? I understand the importance of noodleing, and that the simplest explanation is often the correct one, but this is the Almighty Clue-Wizard after all. If you've got it figured out by the 3rd clue, Allison, my hat's off to you...you deserve the 10 large. Heck, "set your own pace" could mean the frog-pond for all I know, after all no one expects it to be there!
Jim Carrey certainly could have been said to have been setting his own pace in Ace Ventura. And he just won a statue! (Ok, so I'm flailing wildly now.)
Hollywood, I looked at the official explanations from last year on the Winter Carnival page and it says that the clue indicates its in a park, but not on a golf course, which isn't the same as saying its in a park that doesn't have a golf course. i'd still eliminate Como because of how recently it was there, but not Highland or Phalen.
It would be interesting if it were at Phalen though. Is there a reason they lock it? And if there is, how would that reason react to having hundreds of people in the park at midnight? And there would be. It would take a lot more than a gate over the driveway to keep people out.
It is great to see everyone here noodling about! I agree with some of the others before me that this is way to early to begin locating the park let alone digging. I spent some time going through old clues and the explanations and found them to be mostlsy at face value when viewed with hind site. I suggest we do the same! I may not be out digging until at least Wednesday or Thursday.
To contradict what I just wrote I do have some strong feelings/ideas on Battle Creek and Highland. Those thoughts coming soon!
I know that the offical explanation said 'not on golf course' but Cooler Crew page said 'not in park w/ golf course'.... Just trying to read in too much, too early as usual!
I think State U is a huge longshot Duane, but its sure fun to throw out everything you can think of for the consideration/entertainment of all....
Mounds is as 'due' as any park and would be a good central choice!
Detractions: 1) Fear of burial desecration 2) East side last year 3) Many of the clues from cherokee (domes, river, stacks, etc.) would have to be rewritten or worked around for fear of repetitiveness...
Hi, again. I said this in many a post ago, but I'm going to say it again. I believe that the west or north side of St. Paul is due. It's been on the south and east sides of St. Paul (or Ramsey Cty) so the other sides are due. There is always going to be those who do not respect property only because they do not read the rules of the hunt. I believe tonight's clue will give us enough information to contradict what last nights (or today's) clue said. I agree with the clues being pretty forward with information but they only seem that way after the hunt is over and the explanations are given for each one. I'm going to look over my maps tonight for the entire St. Paul area and see what roads or surroundings are in the area. As far as, Phalen having locked gates, it doesn't matter when the hunt is going on. They'll leave the gates unlocked and there will be patrol cars in the area during the night hours. PP hid it there before and they easily can do it again. The word "ace" first struck my as a pilot/aircraft meaning. I do like the "astute" be changed to "state" as maybe State Capitol. What about the word "taste" for "astute" as in Taste of Minnesota? What do you think?
Make your own pace - you do that with walking/running/independent study (adult program). Hmm...a walking path where you'll see the First Bank sign? And then there's the sleuth, ace detective, chasing the bad guy who has the loot. Or, of course, a fighter pilot, but not just any pilot; one that shoots down five planes would be an ace. It's just too early for this one.
Puppy, that's what I was thinking. Not just any pilot, a specialized pilot. Only the best is considered an "ace" with many a hits/kills. Lots of practice. The word "chase" is really sticking out at me. Can't quite grasp why. Still have to noodle more on that concept.
I dont know...can you see it? I cant...the link is right, but its just not happening today..btw...Mound is out because of a certain case of destruction of Indian burial mounds that happened a short time back...
THEY DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS!!!!!!!
That's true Mikek....another thing to look out for:
This happened to me last year...I had security at Como ask me what I was up to....dead giveaway...definitely not there.
I SURE DIDNT HAVE NO PROB GETTING INTO HIDDEN FALLS AND THE GATES WERE OPEN WAY BEFORE THE LAST CLUE
Regalman definitly don't know where it is....he/she was referencing the Ford Plant earlier
If they can't lock it because of the traffic, then you can't use the fact that its not locked as proof that the medallion is there.
Why do you think that Security would know where it is? To many people know, then to many ways for it to get out....
common sense needs to prevailo here!
Do you really think the rocket scientists that are park security know where the thing is? For the money they make, if that were the case, they would turn in their keys immediately and pick it up themselves!!!
Regalman definitly don't know where it is....he/she was referencing the Ford Plant earlier and trains
The security guards escorted me and a whole bunch of people out at Como
Well are the gates at como and Hidden falls the only way to get in??
There are no real gates at Como....I was snooping around the conservatory
Does anyone know which parks have statues....and what the names are on the statues?
Lifter there is a statue in como of some guy named schiller looked it up and i found a guy from denmark that was a civil rights buff, other than that i dunno
theirs a land mark memorial to WW1 at the beginging of the scenic trail that starts at sumut and goes to hidden falls if that helps. ive been to newell, but im not sure about tennir courts.
phalen has a momunment to the 87 ice castle
there are tennis courts at newell, across the street kinda on there on little block
is ace the word here or chase?
monument---statue, is that close enough though??
highland if ace meaning 1st park. conway if meaning chaseing parks
keep your pace=marathon viking=statue ace=firstbank the big red #1 golfers=2 no golfing sings all ads up to capital mall so far
just a thought-----only 22 more hours until clue 3. I now tap my pen impatiently
like that thinkin Mike, but would the first 2 tell us that much??
so far it's kind of looking like its telling us that much
I for sure cant argue anything your saying, but it seems every year we get into it to much. But for now thats a hell of a tie-in
Just look at every other year's clues. They never mean this much, this early. And clue #1 never means anything except to state the boundaries of the hunt in almost clear english

My guess is that clue #2 has to do mostly with what it is hidden in. It is very vague but I feel that that is what #2 is saying.
Bringing up a previous hunt, setting your own pace could refer to an "iconoclast"...meaning it's hidden somewhere where it hasn't been hidden before. Hey Gang!
Great to see Allison, Green, Dave Young, Terri V., etc at kickoff bash Saturday night - you guys are great!
My comments on clues so far:
Clue #1:
a) The PUCK is in St. Paul, not any of the Ramsey Cty suburbs that could be fair game.
b) According to the explanations of last year's clues on the Cooler Page, Como, Highland and Phalen have been eliminated by the 'no golf' clue.
Clue #2: (Obviously, not all of these could apply, but one might!)
a) PACE: Near a run/walk area - most hiding places are....
b) ACE: A flying ACE, near Holman Airport downtown???
c) ASTUTE: Rearrange letters to spell "STATE U." - Metro State is near the airport.
d) "get yourself OUT: Obvious baseball connotations...
e) CHASE: More running, also a Chase St. on the St. Paul map but much too early for street giveaways
f) LOOT: Reference to Pirate's LOOT or rioting/looters...
See ya online tonight for #3!!!

I agree, keep off the golf course could mean just that: keep of the golf course.
Hollywood, I like the State U noodle, though.
2 clues and 2 references to a Pirate theme...hmmmm.
Speaking of flailing wildly, how could U TASTE work into the mix?
I like the state u, along with Holman aiport, so all these would then point to Mounds?
Allison & Duane -
I know that the offical explanation said 'not on golf course' but Cooler Crew page said 'not in park w/ golf course'.... Just trying to read in too much, too early as usual!

I believe that it might be like last year where they point you to one park while they wait til later clues to tell you exactly what park it is at.
Hi, again. I said this in many a post ago, but I'm going to say it again. I believe that the west or north side of St. Paul is due. Chase has a very obscure meaning, which goes something like:
an unenclosed game preserve or wildlife refuge.
ShovelMaster, what's up with the pic icon?
I dont know...can you see it? I cant...the link is right, but its just not happening today..btw...Mound is out because of a certain case of destruction of Indian burial mounds that happened a short time back...
