I think you may have hit the nail on the head - Man of steel that can't be real - Superman, a superhero, not real. The other man of mettle could very well be McKnight, but not necessarily. Could be anyone. I think the main gist is that there is a SuperAmerica nearby. The Minnehaha thing works too. Is there a playground nearby in Battle Creek?
Too much to slog through so I've not read all the noodling since I took off last night for the sheets.
I have some theories that keep swimming around in that gray matter between the ears. Going to check them out today/tonight and hope that I narrow the spot down. It's such a pain to have to work!
#1 This park has been the place for many gold medals, and is within the city limits of St. Paul. Many duels or contests have taken place in this park (and continue to), as well as many dualities concern it - only one of which was that you had to "keep on your toes."
#2 Stay off private ground and don't mess with any statues or golf courses.
#3 Circular thinking/linking refers to bicyles. This is part of one of the dualities.
#4 East and west is another duality of the park, but which is correct? (*I* know!) Playing referrs to playing fields in the park.
#5 Forget first guy, go with second. That's the deal.
The man of mettle has to be someone specific, not just a knight (my opinion I could be wrong). Anyone with courage named Mcknight? It says we have to find his name. I think the "leaves" in clue 3 is very important! Meaning a tree is nearby I think
hello all, I saw while slogging that many don't think there's been a water clue yet. I disagree. Clue 4 had a pretty clear water message. And I think you need to be looking at bigger parks. But that's just my take on it. We'll need more clues to really know for sure.
green.: forget first guy as in McKight? or Superman (America)..still have cobwebs in the brain (plus blond doesn't help any)....any more specfic would help.....
Hey Green, I like some of your ideas on clues 1, 2 & 3. Number 4 when He speaks of East and west Capitalizing East is proper lower case west is not. Think about it, East side? # 5 also in a Dove Box either Ice cream or Soap..

I went to the doctor yesterday and they have put me on antibiotics though they don't know if it will help! I'm hoping to feel better by this weekend so I can dig. I find water in the last line of the clue. You know what park I'm leaning toward, it's not that hard to figure out! and clue 5 now supports it even more!
Mr. KIA... Ah... I believe ittiz grammatically correct to cap the firstest letter of a sentance.
but i could Bee wrong...
South, look... I'm not gonna hand you The Med! Come on!!! Up and att'um! Shake those webs outta yur noggin!
There's a big clue in the second part o'Number 5, and I'm missing it...
Why "herd" and not "horde"? Unless ittiz "heard" which would fit with these silly clues... But I'm thinking more "pack" for "herd" instead'o "heard" for "herd."
Tiny, I'm sorry, but I can't remember what park you're thinking of! I've slogged thousands o'posts in the last 5-6 days; talked with hundrends o'people...
I'm doing good to not forget what park *I* think ittiz!
don't worry green you're right. east is only capitalised because it's the first word of the clue. unless of course, you capitalise nothing. that clue could well have been written west and east and had test replaced with something rhyming with east. if anything it's telling you to check near the east or west sides of the park/rec/mailbox.
now it's time to stop by work and see how many meetings I can get out of or rearrange as I don't want to pass on my ickkiness to anyone else. Lucky for me, I just have to walk downstairs!
sspclassof69: didn't slog huh? the definitions were explained many times, but i'll tell ya :) mettle is courage and fettle is good standing/position, you know "you are in a good position or standing".
Thanks, Derrick..had a sick kid all night, so I was not on-line until 7:30 am...Mulder--hey, went to SSP in '67 thru graduating in '69(for real!)...know anyone from that far back?? My sister graduated '72...lived north end on river bluff..
We ssp'ers use to skip school to go med hunting! Now I got my kids involved; they hate me tying up the computer for the watercoler but my oldest son is a trucker and his route is St.Paul and we have met at many a park for his lunch break; haven't been able to tell him where to meet on lunch today...should I tell him Battle Creek?
Does anyone know anything about Dr. Justus Ohage? Just wondering. It is a street to Harriet.

Good Morning!

Have a way cooler day everyone!
Being a 3Mer, I like the idea of Battle Creek - I can get out on my lunch hours to dig! It was great two years ago at Conway - just a block away!
My Take On The Clues:

Marning, SueBee!
green.:please explain your clue #5...thanks

South, I did. Forget the first guy - it ain't him. Go with the second guy. Ittiz him.
That's the deal.
Monty Hall says let's make a deal! :) lol
Marning, Terry!
HOOOOO-HA!!!! And a BIG Joe!-a-reeno, rite off the bat! What a deal!

Marning, Tiny!
Only water I can get outta 4 is The Frog Pond. Man, I was actually noodling The Med Beeing in The Frog Pond yesterday...
"Hay! This is a depression!"
How you feeling? Going to Bee oot and a'boot soon digging????
Here's my take on the clues:
Clue #1 - It's in St. Paul
Clue #2 - Stay off golf courses (the usual) and don't annoy statues (new admonition - making the statue thing more important.
Clue #3 - Chain link fence or chain...circles that are linked.
Clue #4 - East and west streets - perhaps one ways? and a play area
Clue #5 - A man of honor and courage (Martin Luther King, Jr.) and the peaceful bird is Dove and it's boxed. (Dove soap, dove ice cream, Dove candy)

A lake or pond is a depression of sorts. That would be the water clue if that were it - though it's usually not that obscure.
Hope you're feeling better soon, Tiny Thumbs! Ittiz not fun to be sick during the hunt.
I have got to scoot here. After today, my work time will come second to the hunt...but for today...it's off to the mines.
Mr. KIA... Ah... I believe ittiz grammatically correct to cap the firstest letter of a sentance.
but i could Bee wrong...
South, look... I'm not gonna hand you The Med! Come on!!! Up and att'um! Shake those webs outta yur noggin!

You herd it here first folks!
That's the dove box part of the clue, Green. It's what ittiz hidden in. I don't think herd has diddly to do with it.
I'm outta here!
Happy hunting!
Tiny, I'm sorry, but I can't remember what park you're thinking of! I've slogged thousands o'posts in the last 5-6 days; talked with hundrends o'people...
I'm doing good to not forget what park *I* think ittiz!
Bye, Ter! Catch you later!
Clue #5 says that it is NOT the Man of Steel, but rather the man who has plenty of mettle...is that what u (as in U2) mean, green.?
don't worry green you're right. east is only capitalised because it's the first word of the clue. unless of course, you capitalise nothing. that clue could well have been written west and east and had test replaced with something rhyming with east. if anything it's telling you to check near the east or west sides of the park/rec/mailbox.
I'm a firm believer in the "out of view" theory: HF
Thass what green means, South!
who here was at the pub last night? I stopped, but didn't know where to go. I was there from 7-7:45 sitting with my friend at the main entrance
Gottcha, Tiny!
JOE!
Izz 2day my day OR WHAT???!!! MayBee this bodes well for finding The Med.
Yeah. Rite. And the stone frog in The Frog Pond will come alive and do a Snoopy dance, too.
Hello? Did everyone leave?
now it's time to stop by work and see how many meetings I can get out of or rearrange as I don't want to pass on my ickkiness to anyone else. Lucky for me, I just have to walk downstairs!
Mulder--don't think any of those McKnights came from SSP; green.: thanks for help. has anyone looked up fettle in dictionary or mettle?
sspclassof69: didn't slog huh? the definitions were explained many times, but i'll tell ya :) mettle is courage and fettle is good standing/position, you know "you are in a good position or standing".
SSP - I was just wondering if you knew any of my relatives that went to SSP.
Thanks, Derrick..had a sick kid all night, so I was not on-line until 7:30 am...Mulder--hey, went to SSP in '67 thru graduating in '69(for real!)...know anyone from that far back?? My sister graduated '72...lived north end on river bluff..
SSP-Chris, Kerry, Steve? Sound familiar?
I still think clue #5's first line just refers to Superman - a fictitious character, not real.
I also like the "duel"/Battle (as in Creek) noodle
So What's the name with "plenty of mettle?"
What year, Mulder?
There's a second "man of mettle", who's name is found near the hiding place. Could be a street name, could be something else
not a problem
SSP - K='69 (played hockey), C=before that, S='72
Maybe the "Man of steel cannot be real" clue means a statue of the person mentioned in the next couple of lines.
So what's everyone thinking today?
I think "mettle" could pertain to McKnight. The McKnight Foundation is a well known charity orginazation in Minnesota
