how's this one for ya green. it's a little umn-centric, so those of you who go to the u or went to the u will understand some of the catch phrases better than others, as i freely stole it out of the network column of the mn-daily there back in '96. i cleaned it up a it from the original so that it fit with the eagles lyrics a bit better.

On a dark snowbound highway, stocking cap on my head. Fine mist from the road salt, I'm wishin' I was in bed.

Up ahead in the distance, I saw a cauldron of pain. My heart grew heavy and my headlights dimmed; I'm at the U once again.

There she sat in the parking shed, with a space heater hot. I was thinking to myself, "There ain't no spaces in this here lot."

Then I stepped out my car door, and I shuffled away. There were voices on that transit bus, thought I heard them say,

Welcome to the Hotel Minnesota. Such a lovely place, such a lovely state. Not too much warmth in the Hotel Minnesota. The cold's not so bad; Wind'll drive ya mad.

My nose was red and drippin'; my hands were totally numb. (Uhh) The fact that I still live in this state shows I must be kinda dumb.

How we slid on the ice, sweet winter bliss. Some slid into buildings, some slid off the bridge.

So I went into Coffman and said "Please bring me some Joe." And he said, "Coffee's gone and we're closin' up, so out the door you go."

And still those voices were calling from far away, Wake you up in the middle of your class, just to hear them say,

Welcome to the Hotel Minnesota. Such a lovely place, such a lovely state. It's too damn cold in the Hotel Minnesota. It should be no surprise, if we don't act nice.

Hands stuck to metal railings, falling down on the ice. And she said, "We are all just prisoners here, 'til our own demise."

And in the lecture halls, they shuffled in their seats. Their breath shown forth in steamy clouds but they couldn't turn up the heat.

Next thing I remember, I was running for the door. I had to book a one-way trip to a place that was still warm.

"Relax," said the prof, whose, hair had started to recede, "Once you've registered at the U of M, you can never leave."

ironically enough, i was on campus last night after work. i guess i can't leave :)

A tune in your head and not on your lips will accompany you on you way; Take a car on this trip but make sure it's in reverse.

A tune in your head but not on your lips could be a melody, but I don't know how that fits it, now the second part I think means that either we should reverse the letters "acar" and reverse them into "raca" or that we should take the letters of the name of a type of car and reverse them.

RushHarley

of course "take a car" could also imply the designator, drive, as in _______ Drive.

This street will guide you whether good or uncouth.

And help you gather the treasure.

Would you like to know the sheer truth.

Then you'll hardly have to measure.

This is just a guess, but the street clues are practice... right?? Anyone see the site yet? (www.medallionhunt.8k.com) does it look ok? let me know what you all think

The street clues are just a practice way of us loosening our thinking caps so that we all overanalyze the real clues.

your site needs more links to hunting aids (kinda like AW's site has).

I doubt this is it but there is a single block stretch of road in suburban St. Paul in a park by Lake Pleasant, called Harmony Drive.

I believe all of mine were figured out eventually. Although writing these clues has reminded me of a lot more "rules" of clue writing that I had forgotten about.

Sorry for all the deleted messages, I have been trying to post a HTML message but the system will not let me. Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this problem?

They made some changes to the program so that it no longer allows HTML formatting. The solution to the problem would be to convince the administrators to change it back.

Ok, for those who didn't see it, or perhaps don't entirely remember it, here are the first 11 clues from my "Mock Hunt" which was a virtual treasure hunt I did back in February/March. Maybe it will give you more practice. Just remember, it was designed to be used in conjunction with the 2nd Edition Treasure Hunter's Guide.

1. It’s the hour to hunt again, and fulfill that noodling yen, So act happy as you try to find your way. Bring out a map and ready a pen, And spot a key to where treasure lay

Sit back and relax, forget the sore backs, Have some Haagen Dazs to forget your troubles, Then when you think your brain is ready to tax, You should look in seconds for doubles.

2. How many in a row? Somewhere behind the left toe; High above your nuggets of chicken is no fluke; The Medallion’s hiding place to which you wish to go; Before an angel and a bishop, an enemy and a Duke.

3. On the horizon alone, in it's particular zone, It rises high for everyone around to see. In its evening shadow you will be shown, The general area in which you need to be.

4. Out on the West Coast, a golden one is known to most, And one of water hassled Tricky Dick. Heaven and Hell each has one of which they boast, But the one you’ll see is made of metal and brick.

5. Boreas may be gone, but his spirit goes on, As you seek another treasure far and near. But for brains to triumph over brawn, You’ll have to show the spirit of a pioneer.

6. If you really try, and use a careful eye, And you’re savvy as you glance around, Fair play is what you’ll likely spy, If you’re wise and spot the common ground.

7. Did you know the word “treasure”, (for your trivial pleasure), Is from the Latin “thesaurus”, or “thesauros” in Greek? You’ll be near to your goal if you take careful measure, And a triumvirate of quintuple-faceted polyhedrons go seek.

8. If you can divine, how this clue is benign, You’re running this marathon more quickly, Towards that hope look for a capital sign, And people might not then seem so prickly.

9. Start with Mounds, but not sacred grounds, Then an old advertising ditty employ, Add some of these, or so it sounds, And you’ll get to taste a sweet joy.

10. Sir Durthacht, not so humble, was in the mood for a rumble And dared the evil ogre Ryyidth to come near. But the ogre left the poor knight in such a jumble, That all that remained after was an otter’s ear.

11. The king’s daughter Paige, was but half of his age, And many a bitter drink would she brew. While sipping an odd tea the king declared aloud to his sage, “Señor, won’t you try Paige’s even tea too?”

I will print it and work on it later tonight without looking at any responses on the net, I will email you my reply. Gotta run and eat some breakfast now.

>come on, how many of these cheeseballs stations are doing that 80's thing?

As far as I'm aware this is the only one doing all eighties all the time. KS95 plays some nineties & today as well as eighties (plus yeech - The Backstreet Boys), last I listened the X only plays 80's & 90's hard rock & heavy metal, and zone has gone back to being today's alternative. WLOL plays too much KQ style classic (read 60's and 70's) rock for me. Since MIX took over as all eighties all the time, I've had my radios hooked.

The theater where "The Curse" will be showing is in Columbia Heights. It has been restored to it's original condition and has chandeliers, an organ, and is a very cool experience.

Just thought I would do a test and see what this does.

    > It says it changes the font to something else maybe?

And this is supposed to give you an indented paragraph.

    this of course is bold

    and this is italics

and this is to center it.

b;i;c but can you do more than one?

    Fri, 01/19/2001 - 2:13 PM Permalink
    RushHarley

I like Marydale & the capitol mall as well, I also kinda like battle creek, I don't know why it just intrigues me this year. I'm not as high on hidden falls or highland however.

What do you guys think about Crosby Farm? Is there something wrong with having the medallion there? Also, HIdden Falls is going to have some sort of thing to do with the Vulcans, just something to store in the back of your heads.
