Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
Since the last medallion was at Mounds, there have been at least two hunts that drew HUNDREDS to that park during the hunt. Chair-o-Key being one and one other since then. No incidents of any kind.
If it's in a different park and someone does something stupid, they are only liable for having the hunt where someone might do something stupid. But if it actually was hidden in that park, I would think their liability for anything that happened would go up.
Even the last time the medallion was at Mounds, the incidents that did occur have been dealt with in fencing off the mounds and closing the roads that used to go around a couple of them.
Well I guess if two parks seem to fit the clues, and Mounds is one of them, I'll go dig at the other one, until something says Mounds conclusively to me.
One question: If the park is dug up or whatever, and damage occurs, wouldn't the city of St. Paul have to pay? Since they don't pay for the prize (doesn't the P.P. pay for it?) there should be some money available. That is the only reason i am buying a button-for the hunt. So why isn't there some sort of damage deposit collecting interest all year long?
I don't think there is that much damage. If medallion hunters see there is major damage being done, then they're likely to say something. I also remember Conway, how the softball and baseball diamonds got pretty dug up. I believe people went back and helped to fix it, repair it some.
That is what i thought, so I feel that by shutting some parks down ( i believe one year the gates were closed at phalen after dark) or putting boundaries up to prevent damage take away from the hunt. Does anyone think that in 20 years or so the hunt will only be in say Como? I hope not.
I like Highland because of all the woodsy areas there...and considering none of us was sure there would be snow for this hunt, there's plenty of hiding spots out there...snow or no snow.
Now here's a question. Last year when I was saying it was at Valley Rec or AA, people were saying they wouldn't put it there because it was a "bad neighborhood" (I lived in L.A. for 7 years, St. Paul doesn't have bad neighborhoods). Now do you think they would really consider things like that, but not worry about putting it in Mounds?
Ali, i think about that also, i'm sure there are some parks that are considered BAD. I thought that Steve should have made some kind of notation of that in the book, but maybe that would be discrimination
and i think they'd worry a lot more about mounds than a "bad neighborhood". i suppose when people refer to bad neighborhoods they're talking about the extreme west end, but on my map that seems to be labelled minneapolis :)
mean in the wrong park
I think I'll check back when the clue comes out. This is pointless. No offense to the regulars.
You're hoping to meet me in the wrong park? Wouldn't it be more convenient to meet in the right one?
see ya in a couple days U S
Later LL
Yeah, but that's not how we think
admittedly it is a different time for hunting, but how bad did things really get when it was last at mounds?
Not sure, though I seem to recall that some people were climbing on the mounds, even when people just thought it was there.

Its a public St. Paul Park. Its a possibility.

how stupid, I mean the fences are there for a reason!

for the idiots to climb over, llady.
The fences weren't there the last time the medallion was hidden there.
Guess I'm just trying to think like a lawyer and what rules such a person might impose on a hunt.
Bottom line....it's a St. Paul Park. There are all sorts of activities there all year around.
Allison......wake upppp the med is in MOUNDS......Now go get it ! scd's

Part of the St. Paul Parks budget is upkeep. After 50 years, you can be sure there's money in the budget for any repairs needed after a hunt.
Though honestly, there really isn't much damage to property usually.

Mike, Hopefully people have enough sence to aviod doing any damage
scd's all!!!! my last tough wake up until the hunt!!!! wooooooo!!!!
True medallion hunters would never intentionally do damage.

and if they did accidentally, such as digging up the baseball diamonds, i'd like to think that most would repair it as best as they could.

Good Evening Everyone, another relatively eventful evening I see. We are almost there!! Wa-hoo!
I certainly hope they don't think about neighborhoods.

better than some rush.

Hey Ares, don't hurt my feelings...:)
Another non-St. Paulite?
Ya, but my heart is all St. Paul......
lol raft. sorry. no. no i'm not :)
And in the end Riv, that's all that should matter!
There are those of us no matter where we actually lived, would consider St. Paul home.
There are others who are St. Paulites at heart.
Anyone who participates in the hunt is a St. Paulite at heart.
I love it that St. Paul preserves it's history unlike Mpls.
Terry, you've got mail!
