2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Thanks Me2, I know the hill now that I think of it. Seems like Mears has something to do with Baptists. (somehing I read down there last year)

I dont know what park it is in. I dont even know what all the parks in St. Paul are. I am just saying that some words in the clues, almost every year, are not as you you would normally use them. Having a dictionary handy is not a bad idea.

Me2.....what about this divisible by 2 thing?

Somebody last night was talking about one of the parks having a "hill" with a "steep" side to it. I am sure that there are many hills in St. Paul that fit that description.

I was just throwing out the first thing that came to my head when someone said that Battle Creek was 864 acres. I saw 2! thats it-just thinking with my cold fingertips instead of saying it out loud. :)

If you find the puck, you can't turn in the clues from the web site - they have to be from the paper. You can start subscribing now and always stop it after the hunt is over.

well, most of St Paul are Hills! And the highest point in St. Paul is..."I know, I know... another fact".....Highland Watertower.

Me2,Whew! For a minute there I thought i had lost my mind! I kept re-reading the clues.....LOL!

Good stuff on St.Paul history.....I didn't know there were seven hills.....west end fits my latest theory.

864 acres that needs to be dug up. Let's go! Our chances of finding it are way higher than any money you can ever bet at Hinckley!

I'm assuming this is because you really don't believe I'm not in it for the money.....suit yourself....but I have always maintained that I would tell the PP to keep their money if I can't keep what I have been searching so many years for.

The rules state:

"No purchase is necessary to win. Photo copies, handwritten and/or online printouts of the published clues will be accepted."

trying never hurt a person,... this is $10,000 dollars we are talking about.. I get exctied about any sort of free money...especially when it so simple to find. I could be nicely rewarded by getting my lazy butt off of my computer and just searching in any St. Paul park for a little medallion buried in the snow. It's so simple. I don't even have to leave the city. Think about $10,000 for a little effort and time. Chances are high. who cares if I am in the right park or not. At least I tried. Plus, I will learn the parks better for next year!

Let the hunt begin and best of luck to all! This will be the first year in the last 16 years that the reddish Husky/Sheppard (that looks like a wolf)won't be leading the hunt. Maybe her ghost will help find the medallion.

Every year we read too much into the clues. We walk right over the top of the medallion countless tomes. Until it gets down to the final clues it is like finding a needle in a haystack. But it is always fun. The adrenaline gets pumping and 24/7 everything is HUNT FEVER..Then the lucky finder claims the GOLD and we are all down in the mouth until NEXT YEAR When HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL that by some freak of nature or divine intervention we will find the coveted prize!WOW ARE WE ALL TOOOOOOO....KRAZY!!

Ok, Scribe ---kinda far fetched-forgot why I thought Hayden Heights already BUT The bells in the St Paul Cathedral are a "monument" to Monsignor Ambrose Hayden which you can see from Cherokee (?) hehe but really? who knows how "deep" this writer got

That is under the Cub Foods drawing section.

So I was just about to go out and buy today's paper because I thought that you need to have each clue from the paper. But then I looked in the official rules in yesterday's paper and they stated that No Purchase is necessary. So, handwritten, printed, what have you- they all work for the extra $2,500.

what park should I "TRY" now????

You can buy outdated papers from PP.

The finder of the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion must immediately return the medallion to the Pioneer Press, 345 Cedar St., St. Paul, to qualify for the initial cash prize of $2,500 and $1,200 in groceries from Cub (one $100 Cub gift card per month for 12 months).

An additional $2,500 will be awarded if all of the published daily clues are clipped from the Pioneer Press and presented along with the medallion.

The Pioneer Press also will award an additional $5,000 if the finder is a registered 2002 Winter Carnival Button owner and has mailed an official entry form, postmarked by Jan. 20 to the Winter Carnival office.

One year I was in the right spot but had no shovel with me... I tried lots of things I had in the car to dig but nothing would work. I even tried to melt what little snow there was with a road flare. I thought screw it I am probably in the wrong spot anyway. Two days later, In the spot I was kicking snow around it was found. Goes to show that anyone, with the right information, can have a chance no matter how well you know the area.

It's worth it though isn't it, Amberlitequeen?? it's all in good fun and perhaps with a high reward. As long as nobody hits me over the head with a shovel when they see me find the medallion! It's about time someone's luck turns around, don't you think. This has been a pretty crappy month. Now let's end it with $10,000!!!!!!!!! yippy!

Rushmore - click the link above where it says Treasure Hunt rules. I think you don't need to clip the clues if you are entered in the drawing - like Ian is saying.
