Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
Jokysu
Good evening all. Just taking a short break from work, well actually long break after reading all the posts from today. My eyes are now dried out after reading the screen so much. Some great laughs though.
How is everyone this evening?
I don't have much time to talk, because I have so much work to finish before Monday, but I have been thinking about the cooler all day. Just needed to feed the addiction.
Terry - Only working Saturday because of a huge project at work due in March. Working lots of overtime with no more pay. It is horrible. I will sure take off the time to make it to the pre-dig gig. Just mentioned it to my husband today. Just need to find the babysitter, but I bet grandma would help out. She used to do the hunting. Now she does the sittin' while grandpa and I hunt.
Not to get too far of the subject of useful things to do, or the hunt itself, but does anyone have suggestions for teaching an almost 3 year old to ice skate.
Snowmommy - I know you mentioned your 7 year old playing hockey. How'd you teach him to skate?
Jokysu, I used to have that kind of work...lots of hours and no pay over the 40 hours. I got my life back about 2 years ago. I now work a 40 hour week...any over is paid time and a half...and I couldn't be happier. I understand what you're saying.
My Mom used to do the hunting too...back in the 50's and 60's. Now she just helps noodle clues and used to take care of the kids. (My kids are now adults.)
TMK - you could charge enough to make up for not finding the medallion. You could probably even make more, and you would be inside staying warm. I think that would work.
Joky- If you have skates for them, then give them something of their height that is sturdy which they can push around. Like maybe a little chair. Something that they can balance on, hang on to with their hands. And just have them out with you if you're skating. The more they are out, the better they will get.
Jokysu- a plastic chair to have them support themselves is always good. at that age the key is staying up. once they get comfortable on skates, they will be able to "push" the chair by walking on skates. go from there.
TMK - my little guy has $20 dollar skates and a $50 dollar helmet. I quickly learned that hockey wasn't cheap. There is a rink across from our house, so we could skate everyday. He loves being on the rink with boots, but not with skates. He could stay out all day on his boots, but in skates he says he "gets cold" even though we have been out of the warming house only 30 seconds.
He walks great in skates in the warming house, and can stand alone on the ice, but won't move his feet on the ice. Suggestions?
TLD - generous in the summer when its warm. However when digging in very cold MN, don't take to being too generous. If I am freezing and digging out there, then all who share in the "cold cash" should be freezing and digging with me. Or maybe just out there holding the flashlight. hehehe :)
Terry, I have some very bad memories of getting caught on stuff from those leashes and falling and my mother just continueing to pull on the leash. Those were some tough times......... :)
TLD - I don't think we are intending to be mean of course. :) My kid however would love to stay outside all day. Not that I would let him though. He just loves being outside and crys everytime we have to go in to warm up.
TLD - I'm sorry to hear that. I had a little boy that I took care of for about a year. He was just about impossible to take anywhere because he would take off, turn a corner, talk to anyone or go with anyone without warning. It was the only time I ever used a kiddy leash...but I know it was what kept him safe when we were out and about.
What is up with my english. Can't even spell cries correctly. Must be getting tired.
As for the leashes, I think there are some good times to use them. You just need to keep the slack a little closer so that you don't get the kids caught on people or things. My son likes the independence he has when he has on his harness. He is allowed to do many things without me having to hold his hand. We have stoped many a tantrums with it. No more having to hold him back from things just because he needs to be close.

:)
I have no clue what you are talking about terry. lol
Ever had a time when you wished you had something cool to say?
Howdy Jokysu! Working on a Saturday night? Hope you'll be able to make it to the pre-dig gig.
tld - that is pretty much how I feel all the time. :)
No Tims lil digger. That's where Tim and I are alike. We always have something cool to say.
I dont know about the cool part.

I haven't got dressed today, lol, I just realized. I haven't left the comp, the addiction has started I spose :).
You never leave the comp. Lol, now you have something (usefull?) to do.
I just got a great idea. I wonder how much money I could get running a daycare/babysitting service for medallion hunters....
Heh, more useful then anything else I normally do huh? This way I can make money when we find it.

Kids- that would work if we could finagle(spell?) a way to hunt AND babysit. we could get one of those play pens, or maybe like 5 of em.

:)
Just get those little kid leashes and hand em a shovel, and say "WORK!"

TLD, just because that is how Tim treats you doesn't mean it will work for other little kids

Heh, in all seriousness my mother did have those little leash things. I think that we still may have them somewhere. :)

ok, I sent my poem to greg, I like your song titles kids! we could be on to something here!
good idea kids ;)
Tld - i have one of those leash things. THey work great. especially in the crowded airport. THey should work good for hunting.
Yeah Joky, skates aren't really designed the greatest for keeping feet warm. Invest in warm socks. :)
That way if they fall in the snow you just give em a tug, don't have to waste time digging for kids when your out digging rihgt?
TLD - that is very funny. hahahahahaha
Nearly fell off my chair laughing.
He is a funny guy! That way, I figure if he sucks at digging, we have comedic/moral support.
Yes, now I don't even have to dig, thanks tim!!!
I thought I was comedic/moral support. Or am I here just for the entertainment of the kids?
TLD - no dig, no money would be my response. :)
Well, you can dig AND be funny. Cory aka tld, can be funny and watch the kids. I will dig.
You don't sound like a very happy, generous person Jokysu ;)
TLD - generous in the summer when its warm. However when digging in very cold MN, don't take to being too generous. If I am freezing and digging out there, then all who share in the "cold cash" should be freezing and digging with me. Or maybe just out there holding the flashlight. hehehe :)
When did my posse member ally with you? Someone has some 'splaining to do.
Oh I have to be out there. Who else will hold the leashes?
TLD - the leashes have a wrist strap. You could just stick a stake in the ground and put the wrist strap on it. Just a thought? :)
I'm getting all these visions of kids on leashes in the snow.
Heh heh, then I can help dig too huh?
kids, dogs... really whats the difference. even joking about this is kinda sad. atleast to me.
Yeah, we wouldn't keep our dogs out in the cold
Those leashes for kids though are a good thing - especially in crowds or if you have a kid that tends to take off instead of staying with you.
Terry, I have some very bad memories of getting caught on stuff from those leashes and falling and my mother just continueing to pull on the leash. Those were some tough times......... :)

Kids for some reason just like the snow. :)
Joky, he'll be out all day if he can, except for when he's skating?
Heh, all this talk of kids makes me want to get one, how much do they cost? And where do you get em, Walgreen's, Target?
TLD - I'm sorry to hear that. I had a little boy that I took care of for about a year. He was just about impossible to take anywhere because he would take off, turn a corner, talk to anyone or go with anyone without warning. TMK - you got that right. The skating thing brings him right in. Even though he says he likes skating. Go figure?
