2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Ok, I'm going to make a random rant that has nothing to do with the Treasure Hunt. But what is with KQRS and their "CD sides"? CD's only have 1 side!! They're just playing whatever songs they want and calling it a CD side. And now they just played one from "The Police's Greatest Hits" and just played a song that isn't even on that album! False advertising!

I'm ready this year. I got my singles club involved this year so I have plenty of labor at my disposal this time. Of course it means I'd likely have to split the prize several ways, but who really cares if you find it?

Hey Allison! How goes things?

Well if the hunt goes long enough, the hunting does tend to become a party, but we haven't gotten that far the last two years. I think that's why everyone still has such fond memories of Conway.

Looks like I'm going to make it to the end of the month. After that depends on me finding a new (and hopefully decent) job by then. Either that or finding the medallion. In my case, I think finding the medallion is easier. hehe

Starting on the 19th, I'll be on around the clock duty here. It would be cool though to get some sort of social event going by clue 7 or 8.

The 7th clue is on a Friday night at midnight, and the 8th is Saturday at midnight. Though to get anything going really, there would have to be at least some consensus on a park, if it's to be a digging event. A bonfire would be cool (or warm as it were), but can't do that everywhere. Not sure what other sorts of events we could do.

RiverRaft......The only two times like this when there was no snow on the ground they hid it in clay. Just a fun fact the cooler should know.

Yeah, hopefully the clue writer takes this into account ( Not Alison )

Outta here, going to have Snow Covered Dreams !!!

Allison Wonderland

If it weren't for the movie, and the fact I know they really want to shoot a typical snowy hunt, I'd be perfectly happy hunting without snow. I never liked the digging aspect. I think there will be snow by the time people get out to look, but otherwise I would imagine they might put it in something that blends in with something else. Might cover it in mud or something. Maybe put it in a piece of wood somehow, or if it's cold enough, they may freeze it in some ice somewhere (wouldn't be the first time). The only problem is what if it inspires people to start digging up stuff they shouldn't be digging up?

Allison, are they going to shoot another film ?

Fri, 01/11/2002 - 12:44 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

They're going to do more shooting for the same film. They made a short version of it from last year's footage and I guess it did pretty well. They seem to think they'll get HBO to buy it.

I really wanted to get to the pre party this year, but it's on my hubbys 40th, so i'm not to sure of our plans yet :(

The hunt was commercialized a long time ago. The whole thing is mainly a way to try and sell more papers. I got my button today and I see 7 or 8 different sponsors on the card that comes with it. The various events the PP hosts in connection with the new clues coming out are usually sponsored by companies. This whole thing is really meant to be a money making venture. So all I can say is God bless capitalism! hehe

And to answer your previous pregunta...

Yes, I sleep, but at odd - for the norm - hours. Like a couple o'Heads, sans job. I MUST go on record for being outta a'yob the longest... LOL!!!!

So. I sleep, noodle, watch here as I want.

Reality [job] will intrude once this, that I live for every year - my obcession - has passed.

The last time I had all day and all night available to spend on the hunt was at Conway, so I'm hoping this year turns out to be like that one.

This year i'm going to alter my thinking, and maybe i'll have a chance to find the dang thing.

Allison, what's the puck made of ? Is it Arcrylic ?

Fri, 01/11/2002 - 12:57 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I don't think it's acryllic exactly, I heard it's some special polymer that 3M came up with or something. So some sort of plastic.

Snow mommy

Good evening everyone. I was just looking at the past hidding places and clues. Can any of you remember the last time there was a hunt with no, or very little snow?

Allison, I will never, ever, EVER forgive you for saying that about The Hunt!

You are so... So... I'm brain-tied!

YOU ARE SO VICIOUS AND TERRIBLE!!!!

TO SELL MORE PAPERS???

You jaded... THING!!!

Have you no love of tradition and history and community???? No love of continuance?

Allison, you, damn you, so dissapoint me. I'm so hurt. I never ever EVER would have belived that of you.

Fri, 01/11/2002 - 1:00 AM Permalink
Rob Norris

Allison which is exactly my point.....I think for years to come they will always put it in a large park or a very hard place to find it.....i.e. to make more money....

Fri, 01/11/2002 - 1:01 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Even if you could train your dog to sniff it, odds are you'd have to get within a few feet of it first, and even that can be a challenge some years.
