And you'll know you gave them...  And you can take Bella...  That would be nice, on a nice sunny spring day!  Keep on giving your mom those lilacs...  Keep the tradition, it doesn't gotta stop...

here's my beef today. The Red Lake shootings are nowhere to be found on the national news sites. It's all about the woman and her life support. When the Columbine deal happened, you were pressed to find anything else on the news for weeks! Is it because this story is ho-hum?
Or is it because it happened on a poor northern Res. rather than an upscale monied suburb? Are the poverty stricken Indians less important than higher class whites?
These shootings are becoming more and more common. Not just in schools, but all over. What happens to the shooters? Do they short circuit?
It's not just 1 person they're killing, either. It's as many as they can. Sheesh.
There, how's that for excitement?

Red lake is a closed reservation and the tribe controlls all acess to the area. I did see a bit more coverage the last couple days. They keep showing the shooter in a picture taken when he was  9 years old. (he's 17) Is that the only pic they have of this kid?

This just isn't as much of a deal as it was when Columbine happened.

If that makes sense.

I was at the comedy club Tuesday and the comedian actually had a joke about that. He said teeangers used to get depressed and kill themselves. But now we encourage them to share their feelings...

share their feelings...

ohmygosh ....

the first day there was not much coverage, then over the last 2 days that is all I hear. on the news AND radio. People on 91.1 public radio, KS95, KTIS 98.5 -interviewing Indian experts, kids and relatives in that area.

I was watching Fox and friends(i know dont tell me) the other morning and they talked about it for a bit. The thing that suprised me most was that they were really quite rude. Talking about the fact that the reservation is closed and now they want help. Or they wont let us help...I dont know he was talking very down about them. I got mad so I changed the channel.

nor has GW issued a public statement regarding it!!

I think there was actually school shootings in Tennesee about 7 yrs ago where a 12 yr old and a 11 yr old gunned down like 6 fellow classmates after tripping the fire alarm and letting them run outside while the 12 yr old capped them form the w00ds - COLUMBINE was almost 1 year to the day after that one!

I think the Indians get less press because they are still sub consciously considerred 2nd class citizens - regardless if we want to admit it or not!!

kind of like the Eskimos are in Alaska and the Aboriganals are in Austrailia! sad but true!

I am a scandinavian native.
I am 100 percent Finnish, but all the family on my mother's side came from Lapland. All the family on my father's side came from Siberia.
I have an imbedded sympathy for the native americans.
...even though I disagree with their scapegoat mentality.
I truly believe they should utilize the advantages available, and quit being martyrs.
I HATE what happened up there, but they have vehemently refused any input from the white community.
They are faced with the "should have, would have, could have" syndrome
and as much as they have refused outside 'help', they will blame us for not helping.
Ok- I'm mostly done.

outta.

By the way- can we please haVE AN UPDATE FOR her?
WErD.

King Boreas aka Ian

Media:Iron Butterfly In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Riff.mp3

The lyrics are simple, and heard only at the beginning and the end. A commonly repeated story says that the song title was originally "In the Garden of Eden," but in the course of rehearsing and recording singer Doug Ingle slurred the words into the nonsense phrase of the title. But the truth (according to the liner notes on 'the best of' CD compilation) is that drummer Ron Bushy was listening to the track through headphones and he just couldn't hear correctly and simply distorted what Doug Ingle answered when Ron asked him for the title of the song.

The song is significant in rock history because, together with Blue Cheer and Steppenwolf, it marks the point when psychedelic music produced heavy metal. Later 1970s heavy metal and progressive rock acts like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin owe much of their sound, and even more of their live acts, to this recording.

In a famous 1995 The Simpsons episode, Bart Sells His Soul, the writers paid tribute to Iron Butterfly by having Bart Simpson replace the hymn books with sheet music for "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." The entire church started into a 17-minute version of "In the Garden of Eden" (by "I. Ron Butterfly") before the minister caught onto the gag.
