Matty B\'s is the home of the Cooler Crew. We\'ve got a party going on every evening from 8 until the clue is released. Sunday night, if the hunt goes that long, the bar will be open but food will not be available.

Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

Tim said earlier today that what happened with BM and Jake would set back the exchange of idea's 20 years and he's probably right. Living in Wisconsin I really can't jump into the car and take a look at any of the parks. I plan on coming into town Friday if the hunt is still on.

Wisconsin!!! (j/k)

I still like to share... I always keep the numero uno-primo noodles to myself... (like exactly pinpointing anything) but all of the more vague ones get shared... (ie... what park, street name, what it may be wrapped in...)

I have always shared, and will always share...

Totally agree. The fun of the hunt is the excitement of sharing new ideas.

My wife and I moved to Somerset when I retired in 2002. We both grew up on the East Side had have looked for a long time. Never really been that close to finding it.

I was in the HF parking lot yesterday at 3:30 with my daughters around the same time Jake must have been hauling in the loot. That's about as close as I've been in a couple years.

AT Como a couple years ago I'm convinced I walked right over the spot it was found.

Could it be possible that Jake convinced the PP to have a second hunt and Jake is writing the clues? Where has Jake always wanted the medallion to be hidden?

I don't know about the Matty B's place. We got a really snobby vibe from our server when we asked what was on tap. I also thought that they were going to give us some type of deal on drinks? Maybe I was mistaken. I am curious to hear what other people think of Matty B's. I guess if I had to sum it up, I would say it is a restaurant with two sports hernias.

9 pm news channel 9

jake interview -that was funny

caught the 5 news on 11 with Ian and Jake -

tried to tape it with the cameracord but didn't get it all :frown:

that guy on the pp board that llbell posted--- wow :frown: sad that people think that way

hey Art, sorry you had a problem at MB's, I do know they had been trying to accomodate. Drink Specials are different every night and different times- there wasn't one special just for the Cooler. I also posted about 2 weeks ago a link to get a Matty B's membership where you would get 2 for 1s after 10 pm - some chose to print it -not all did -

I'm heading down there in a bit- just cant stay in

great noodles everyone

blackcat--- its all good- please stay

Any guesses on what tonights clue may give us?

the 5 words that stand out to me are:

retreat - battle reference??

woodsy -the clue writer(Bard) retreated to maplewood, or other burb? line wood street name with wood, sherwood, mill wood etc.

or in a wooded area or in log pile, branches etc.

channel - river channel, tv tower,

smell sweet - flower? Roseville, conservatory,

lots of parks to dig. hope to see you all out there.

I think thier drinks are very expensive. But it's close.

New Daddy

my guess is an obvious clue that will fit many parks so we all look in lots of parks and everyhbody gets that feeling 'its got to be there"

My 2 cents about sharing ideas. #1 most of us are always wrong. when we do get the park or area right it is often for the wrong reasons. #2 most people will not dig in an area long enough to find it. Early in the hunt, when a great noodle is helpful, people don't dig much. Later in the hunt, good noodles don't help that much, you could find the park by looking for cars, or watching the tv news. most people do not noodle a lot and dig a lot. so if you have a great noodle but don't share it, your not going to find it anyways. If you are a big digger, most likely who you share the clue with is not going to dig up that area befor you. By sharing ideas we all win when someone finds it. Ask BM how fun it was to see Jake at PP. The best way to find it is not to keep ideas secret, but dig more than the people you share with.

I liked the food and tap selection. That place would be dead if we were not there. The bar tender did not seam happy, but was very accomidating, and fast with drinks.

ridiculously expensive, and that's why I'm not going down there. If I ever wanna go get the paper, I'll probably go to Great Waters.

Home of the Cooler Crew? Shoulda had a flat rate/special deal.

My 2 cents

yea I was hungry so I ordered 2 food items at $8 each. Not too bad right? But with $16 of food and 3 drinks it came to $42.45 with tip. Maybe I just tipped too much ( I try to give at least 20%)

Thats like 8 bucks a drink.

when they took the medallion from jakes hand and par announced that there was another hunt it was only 20 minutes time elapsed. They puck might not have even been out of the building yet? I wonder if they would risk being seen or do you think it might have been hidden today? If they really left last night with it then i would tend to think it might be a park close to the press.. any thoughts?
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 8:28 PM Permalink
OTiS

I have a feeling that they left right when we think they did. I bet the drove all over the place and made sure they wern't followed.

OR

The writer had a seperate park in mind from before the hunt even began. Perhaps a back up park or a second idea. It could have been hidden anytime after the announcement was made even with the the clues going to print provided the writter already knew the general area it was going to be placed. The specifics could be figured once it was placed before the first clue released.

Just my opinion.

wolfpac

That's good possibility. I was also thinking they'd have to come up with something to hide it in, maybe a perfume container the female hider had in her purse, not that it would make a difference.
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 8:34 PM Permalink
wolfpac

I'll bet there was a lot of scrambling going on.
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 8:36 PM Permalink
Brassmonkey

I think they have two or three parks in mind and then select one to hide it in. When this happened so quickly they just went to park number 2 that they investigated earlier in the year. who besides me thinks that Par Ridder writes those clues and he suffered the same fate as his grandfather or uncle whomever he mentioned at the conference.

Makes ya wonder. He look the type to go deep in the park at HF, He would have no trouble getting around if he wanted to go into a nasty mosh pit....

he jumped to the top of my list. anyone notice what type of shoes or boots he was wearing??
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 8:40 PM Permalink
Brassmonkey

par looked and acted as if he was well educated in literature and english, maybe that is taking to much from a short meeting but I think he is the main writer, not the hider.
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 8:43 PM Permalink
New Daddy

I think writer & hider are the same ... for all I know, with 1 lookout to make sure he is not seen.
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 8:46 PM Permalink
OTiS

Perhaps in the past that was the case but someone at a level he is at would be the guy you want holding the secret, not being the secret.

Otherwise how could it be trusted with someone else?

Then again BM, you could be right. Another mystery lol

ok, so does the park have benches or does it need to have sports facilities. i.e. baseball/basketball/hockey. hence a player being benched?

Another sell for Phalen (or a park in Arden Hills).

Forest of Arden

also- Brad Johnson (pkwy) was benched

another nod to Como (or BC)"the bard" could refer to Larry Ho...journalist poet

I like the IM noodle! just another possibility to add to the list.
