Yes it is fun to mess with the masses.... the funny part is at one point PHG says "oh look we got one fooled"... and I look at the poster and it's my cousin....
Anything that may lesser the odds of having tons of teenagers and delinquents searching Como on Saturday, I'm all for it. Hopefully I can convince a few people BC is a real possibility.
**Hopes that the CW doesn't throw us a curveball to BC around clue 8 or 9**
First clue is that it's in a park. The word fair shows up. I am thinking that is the Great Minnesota Get Together. Heaven or hell come - devils den? Maybe purgatory - midway. This clue could also refer to Fairview so I was thinking Como or Newell most likely at this point. The rest of the clue is simply about the snowfall and ice dam problems that have made the news so much this winter. It gave people lots to noodle over. Some noodles that fit Newell or Como was the amid word. Midway Parkway, Midway Stadium where so much snow has been hauled, or the Midway neighborhood.
Second clue is what it's in. My thought about the fact this Thom guy is going to Cleveland is to throw us off. I could very well be wrong, but the whole verse is about the editor. The second verse is that there will be some distance from our doorsteps to the treasure. Get off your rears and hunt. I think the medallion is wrapped in newspaper.
Third clue is referring to Dan Patch - another state fair reference. It can't be on the fairgrounds - but nearby - Newell or Como. A glen could be any valley. The frog pond area in front of the conservatory is a lower spot in that section of Como. Days of yore stories has me aiming more at Como because of the numerous historical artifacts in that park. The dutch oven, the trolley bridges, the torpedo, pavillion, paddle boats, zoo, conservatory, etc.
Fourth clue is a pacing clue very near the treasure. No clue though to which path in which park. This is a "zero in" clue that could prove helpful later. I believe the prime location is where the medallion rests. There is a thought that water to ice =32F. 32 paces? There is also 3200 steps around the lake.
Fifth clue I believe is telling hunters not to give up and with the mention of Favre creates what follows a football themed clue. The da agony and da feat is a reference to da Bears. Of course there are bears at Como and there is the black bear carving near the Black Bear Cafe at the Como pavillion. At this point, I believe Newell is out leaving Como. Where lovers meet in the winter - ski hills, cross country skiing, conservatory - there are weddings held there year around - and in the winter. We have actually seen weddings in progress out there when we visit for our anniversary. There is also a Valentine's Day dinner held there now. You can make reservations for you and your honey for a nice meal.
I like that. I was thinking Midway for the "heaven or hell come" thing as well.
3200 steps around the lake - 32 degrees Fahrenheit and 00 degrees Celcius for water to ice.
Also the "stiff upper lip" that was posted earlier... USS Swordfish
Hamm falls for the pig references
etc etc etc. I'm overthinking things because I haven't really had time to sink my teeth into this hunt yet. :goofy:
Definitely Como, unless this CW throws a big curveball in a few clues directing us to BC.. hmm, who was one of the best with big curveballs? Brand new HOF'er Bert Blyleven.
Off to bed for me. I'm going to try to be on here tomorrow night for the clue, but if not I'll see you all Saturday... at COMO!
And what was that doofy clue the year It was a Mounds? Something about a woman like roses or something and the clue was actually about her husband? (Or was that my erroneous noodle'?!)
Remember the last 8 years or so....park, park, park, park, park, park, park, park, park, park, park, 52 page clue 12 saying axactly where it is...just sayin...
A Big Bore is Barrett That came straight from the PP Board. Maybe got_Puck? is on to something?
Here is the actual full post under The Trail of the Lonesome Pine--

Big Bore Is Barrett Ave, Barrett Is A Big Gun.. Step Off The Path From The Nearest Path Means The Sign That Says 3200 Steps Around The Lake.. Water To Ice Is Talking About The Aerater system in lake.. i can keep going with every clue.. p's and q's is pints and quarts meaning scotch.. search scotch pine tree on the web and come down here on the south side and help me find at sun up!!
I'd like to point something out about this whole MacMurray fervor:
Clue says: "Dog Shaggy"
Which implies: "Shaggy D.A." the movie
Which includes: Fred Mac Murray
Which Implies: Mac Murray Fields
Sorry - to me that's one too many steps to link a clue to a location - usually it's more direct than that. There's way too much heavy discussion about that. Think about ALL the parks with dog walk areas and try not to get too hung up on Como. Please.
But if you take Shaggy Dog, Flubber and the Trail of the Lonesome Pine all together in one clue, all starring Fred MacMurray... it seems pretty strong to me.
This is how I see McMurray - he gave some small piece of land that became Battle Creek. But he also gave the 32 acre site that became the fields named after him.
Fourth line of clue 6: Or you'll flub away what's mine.
That is a great noodle Terry! I am really happy if it is at Como because I absolutely love that park. 03' was the first year I hunted and was so lost the night of the last clue. Now I feel like I know that park very well and am really excited about searching there.
I'll be sneaking out of work early.... so tired! Didn't get to bed until about 3:30 this morning and then up again @ 6. UGH! Totally worth it though to be amongst good people
Thanks for that, Eags! One of my faves, along with the little dance in Way out West. Dad absolutely HATES THEM, so I haven't seen this for a L-O-N-G time.
Going out this morning, hopefully staying out all day. Como it is for me, although I love the thought of Harriet.
I was looking at the PP boards, and some of the comments you guys made were a little pointed. Perhaps that's just because I looked at it all from a point of view that knew you were shitting all of them  Even so, maybe we can all be a little more subtle about the hints. Maybe we should get them all digging up Hidden Falls some more. At least it's a huge area.
I'm loving all the movie references pointing towards McMurray Field, the 32 acre reference, and the 32 and 00 being combined to make the total number of paces around the lake. All that's left is 273...the kelvin scale equivalent!! First place I'm searching is around the tunnel at McMurray.
Perhaps I'll get some sort of map and figure out where all these landmarks are everyones been talking about, in relation to each other. Maybe the puck's in the direct middle? Hmm. I do think the 32 thing is getting old though. How many times can that make reference, you know?
Few Como suggestions...the person who took control in stormy seas and lead us to cheer could refer to the Vikings new coach (Who played for Da Bears)....and Coach Rd is just south of the fields at Como...
also, The annoying owl videos.....my guess is the "Whooo" we don't hear from the owls would be heard by Horton, which is in Como park...
I will say I'm a little leary of a red herring here. I know I should keep it simple and go with the obvious BUT... remember 2008? The clues fit other parks better that IM..except for the uninspired 10th clue "go to the park that ryhmes with rounds"
It would make sense to be obvious and give us the park early since Como is so huge. But I've always had this theory that some year when we get tons of snow that they would take the opportunity to put it in a smaller park but lead you to bigger parks to make the hunt last longer.
Plus I'm bothered by the multiple uses of the owl in the videos.. reusing the horton hears a who reference... I always see the videos as a distraction/deterent.
I guess I'm a little disappointed at the uninspired hiding location during a year of record snowfall.
Yes it is fun to mess with the masses.... the funny part is at one point PHG says "oh look we got one fooled"... and I look at the poster and it's my cousin....

I hope I didn't just send everybody to the -right- park.

Gotta be Como... Gotta be Como.. SOMEONE REASSURE ME IT'S AT COMO! lol
It's Como. No doubt.
And enough adrenaline when I was bounced out of sleep with the McMurray fields. What a weird experience.
I'm banking on it being Como, since I just posted some pretty convincing stuff about BC on that "other" board.
The one thing that kinda bugs me about clue 6 is the last two lines..
"Don't forget the clues that fit
Or you'll flub away what's mine"
If the clue is interpreted as McMurray (which it obviously is), then what's -his- could be interpreted as BC..
I'm being fooled by my own deception. :pbpt:
I have put these clues together one by one and have thought Como - or Newell since clue 1. I think it was clue 3 or 4 that I figured Newell was out.
I'm trying to really keep this simple.
First clue is that it's in a park. The word fair shows up. I am thinking that is the Great Minnesota Get Together. Heaven or hell come - devils den? Maybe purgatory - midway. This clue could also refer to Fairview so I was thinking Como or Newell most likely at this point. That line tells us to put all the pieces together.
I hope we find this helpful.

This former gravel pit became a 32-acre athletic field in 1927. It was named for William McMurray.
in 1929. A successful tea merchant and extremely generous man, McMurray gave away large sums of
money and wrote off debts owed to his company. Battle Creek Park was started with his 1922 donation
of 25 acres of land on Battle Creek. When his firm declared bankruptcy in 1930, McMurray, then
chairman of the park advisory board, poured his personal savings into the company. In 1944, he was
living on $15 a week in a downtown St. Paul hotel when he was quoted as saying: “Where is the money?
I havenÂ’t the slightest idea, but I hope it did some people some good. I guess I was just in business for
the fun of it anyway.”
Remember Harriet Island? No! CoNo!
And what was that doofy clue the year It was a Mounds? Something about a woman like roses or something and the clue was actually about her husband? (Or was that my erroneous noodle'?!)
I don't know. I'm still in BC.

Guess I just have comophobia.
But I guess that would be considered a chestnut as in "an old joke or story".
I see that it *could* be there. I just still don't want it to be...again.
I don't buy it as an anti-anti-red herring.
.
This hunt's for huskies, not... for... POODLERS!
CONO!
Como makes perfect sense to me. Clue 6, tons of snow, I can't imagine a switch at clue 10 this year. Nope.
Fourth line of clue 6: Or you'll flub away what's mine.
If it's mine, it has my name on it.
Lots of snow to move.
I'm heading off to work. Hope I can get out early enough today to hunt, hunt, hunt in the daylight.

(Although that mad dash with my son in his pick-up truck to the mosh pit are great memories and my son and I laugh about it to this day).
