"Minnesota Viking" Squadron; there is the deflated dome reference ?
the plaque says: "The U.S. Submarine Veterans of the World War II, Minnesota Viking Squadron [...] to the valiant men of the U.S.S SWORDFISH SS193" (caps), etc.
On the East side of torpedo monument (Trolley Zone)" United States Submarines Lost in World War II" and a bunch of Submarine names i.e. Sea Wolf, Growler, S-44, Pickerel, Perch, Scorpion, Bullhead, Snook, etc. Just noodling; perhaps making the park fit the clue. I was digging at Harriet in 2003 for Horton Hears a Who...
To me this clue says conservatory all over it. I believe there are also weddings hosted in the Como Park Conservatory as well - which could explain the "no time for cold feet".
This memorial, consisting of a torpedo atop a brick monument, is dedicated to the 88 men aboard the USS Swordfish, SS193, which is believed to have been sunk either by mine or depth charge off the coast of Okinawa on January 12, 1945. She was the first US Submarine to sink a Japanese ship during WWII, and was awarded eight battle stars for her service. She was instrumental in evacuating the President of the Philippines and his family from Luzon. The plaque on the North side of the monument reads:
THE U.S SUBMARINE VETERANS OF WORLD WAR II MINNESOTA VIKINGS SQUADRON
PROUDLY DEDICATE THIS MEMORIAL TO THE VALIANT MEN OF THE
U.S.S. SWORDFISH SS193
SUNK BY ENEMY ACTION ON HER 13TH WAR PATROL ON JANUARY 12, 1945
AFTER SINKING 12 ENEMY SHIPS FOR A TOTAL OF 47,926 TONS
I have to LOL at the leafblower guy! It was so loud I thought there was more than one. I was waiting for a call from hubby with the clue, but I couldn't hear the phone ring and he kept missing me. All I know is I kept going around in circles up and down, not knowing where I was but always ending up back where I began! :pbpt:
At that time, all Naval vessels would have sent Morse. On my desk, I have a 1943 Naval straight key. Morse code can be sent and received in noisier conditions than voice, as it is a simple on/off and is 100% efficient of available power. Most low power or long distance radio enthusiasts will use Morse code, even today.
No need to stop - I like learning stuff in the hunts, too  I think the cannon that used to be to the south of the pavilion is gone now, no? Lived a block from the park in my first 6 years and the cannon was my favorite.
Fair amount of people by the section of Beulah woods that has the streetcar bridge. Saw Mary Hagan out there, thought of digging next to her and saying, "this looks like a good spot!"
Speaking of Mary Hagan... where has 3M been digging this year, would like to hook up before hunt is over.
People seem to be spread out pretty well across all of Como today. I did see about 8-10 people digging as a group just north of where E Como intersects with Lexington.
Just got back from digging around Como park. A lot of people scattered around but there were a lot of people at the conservatory for some orchids thing. Funny how this clue comes out the same days as a conservatory event...
So we got out to Como, tried figuring out where to start, drove around and folks were scattered all over from one end to the other. We actually did a bit of digging finally, but didn't get that this-is-the-place feeling.
I know what you mean. I went walking around this place and that. I dug a little here and a little there but no place really felt solid to me. I think we are all missing something...and when it's revealed we're all gonna be like "Doh!" lol
We were in the same boat. We finally just said, "Let's dig here, just to say we did."
A lot of walking around, passed the same couple three times, I think...
It did help to get a better feel for alternate locations for meanings of clues, though. Figuring that this is clue 7, and we shouldn't be "pinpointed" yet, I went to search for all of the places that were mentioned, and wanted to dig in a spot that wasn't. But then I was getting run over by disc golfers, so that was fun...
I am still not set on Como, but have found myself there because I have no where else to turn.
I feel the clues are SCREAMING Como, which makes me think, not Como. But I am an Anti-Como-ite, so I try to find reasons to NOT be there.
My main reasons being..
Clue 1: Just the usual I presume. Nothing big here.
Clue 2: ..”search it all-- Suburbs and neighborhoods and throughout Saint Paul.” I am fixated on the “search it all” being something that contains suburbs, neighborhoods and Saint Paul, ie a trail.
Clue 3: It says “old sandy” which is most likely a direct reference to Lake Como. Then “he was mire...pits” could be reference to Charlie Pits, and if it is, the bones found in the lake where later DNA tested and proven to not be his, making me feel that the signs/stories/clues are saying Como (or Pitts) but we have been deceived. Plus, two references to Como seems fishy to me.
Clue 4: Okay, I have nothing substantial on clue. Truly I donÂ’t, other than nothing says Como to me that canÂ’t say something else.
Clue 5: I just feel anything I have heard/read/come up with anything specific to ComoÂ… The only conjecture I can get is the mansionÂ’s door possibly referring to the posts at Midway and Hamline, but I just donÂ’t believe it.
Clue 6: “rail” and “historic” are both blaringly HELLO to Como’s Historic Streetcar Station and rail line.
Clue 7: “No time for cold feet” (Bravo, by the way) references the video which was filmed during two hunts for Como and the “summer all year long” could reference the flags around the park that say Summer 365 Days a Year! But a killer for me is that it is the Vulcans’ vision that see the summer all year long, and aren’t the Vulcans slightly deceiving and would try to distract from the true location of Boreas’ treasure?
My next closest idea is a trail, IÂ’m thinking Gateway in NSTP or BV, but I canÂ’t make it stick in more than 3-4ish clues, and stick shoddily at best. I can't make any park stick better than a trail. I feel so LOST and I hate it!
Basically IÂ’ve hopped on the Como bandwaggon but am hoping there is something else, I just havenÂ’t cracked it yet.
Clue 2: ..”search it all-- Suburbs and neighborhoods and throughout Saint Paul.” I am fixated on the “search it all” being something that contains suburbs, neighborhoods and Saint Paul, ie a trail.
The "search it all" in that clue is what makes me think it's not in a park also. Plus the fact "park" hasn't been mentioned in any clue so far. That could change tonight.
I spent some time in and around Como today looking for the scenes shown in the deed is done video. Some views resembled the background in the video but the one that matched best was on the golf course. Darn it.
the plaque says: "The U.S. Submarine Veterans of the World War II, Minnesota Viking Squadron [...] to the valiant men of the U.S.S SWORDFISH SS193" (caps), etc.
Subs use Morse code?
(Photo is of the Submarine names)
But if warmer weather is what you should need,
Riddle this clue and don't get it wrong --
Vulcans' vision is summer all year long.

The third one says "Er"
The fourth frog does not get it.

Oh wait, my bad, I thought you said Fox.
Speaking of Mary Hagan... where has 3M been digging this year, would like to hook up before hunt is over.
8 US islands where summer lasts all year long.
So much park.
So much snow.
So much more snow and cold coming.
A lot of walking around, passed the same couple three times, I think...

Waning moon means no little or no light for the remaining clues.
Gabe's should be plenty nuts at clue time.
Lots of blowing and drifting to obliterate any previous dig marks.
"I'm hungry and I'll tell you what I want, but you have to guess.
It has lots of points up and only one point down and no points on the sides... can you guess?"
It was broccoli.
I need to start planting ideas now.

Spendy but good according to the better half.
I was out there this (sat) afternoon.
Should be out there sunday
