It's quite simple CM, just view the html source on the webpage and you should find the font color # near the top.

ok-realy quick- I don;t think I had a chance to post this info:

A Swedish church owned the land closest to Orchard St (now ave)

and a German Lutheran Church owned the land closest to Jessamine

Both properties were between Milton and Victoria / Orchard and Jessamine.

Now both churches used this land for their cemeteries-no buildings that I am aware of.

The first burial was in 1858 on the swedish property (where the playground is now)

The churches ended up losing their land due to some tax problems-the city didn't know what to do so there were years of neglect and controvery on what to do with the land. Finally in 1955 (the last of what they thought of the bodies) where moved to 4 other cemeteries in the city-Union, Calvary, Oakland & Elmhurst. And a playground was placed where the playground is now.

When the Community Center was erected sometime in the late 70's -bones were found and transported to Elmhurst in an unmarked grave.

I have talked with a man from Elmhurst who grew up around Orchard and he says that he is positive there are still remains under the park grounds-

which by the way is at least topped off with 10 feet of dirt above the original cemetery to make the park -and the 'plateu' was added in the late 70's as well.

If anyone is interested-I have many newspaper articles on the cemetery and the playground. with pictures in some of the articles :)

Can you post any of those....
Of course I'm interested.....

I wonder how much the "sonar" systems would cost to go over the land....
Like the stuff they did to search for HOFFA?

ME2 have you found anything about it being a cemetary for an Orpanage?

St. Paul Capital Ghost

By: ssmith@toddvnm.com

One night last January my friends and I were driving around looking for the
St. Paul Winter Carnival Medallion. This is a "treasure hunt" put on by the
local paper in which clues are released leading you to a blue hockey puck
medallion worth $10,000. The clue that night had led us to the Minnesota
state capital building grounds. We pulled up at about 12:30AM and the place
looked deserted. We were the only car in the parking lot. As we walked out
on to the Capital Mall we spotted someone off in the distance digging. We
were sure it was a fellow treasure hunter and we called out to him. The
whole time all four of us kept our eyes directly on him, shouting. He didn't
answer. Suddenly as we began to get closer, he disappeared. None of us had
taken our eyes off of him, so there was no way he could have just walked
off. We went to the spot where we had seen him digging and the snow was
pristine. Nothing had been dug there at all. I was really freaked out and
wanted to leave, but my friends insisted we look around and try to find him.
We never saw any other sign of him. Our theories are that it is either a
former garder come back to tend his plants or a deceased medallion hunter
looking for the treasure. I like to think it is the latter.

Today ...when I was at the park...

I looked for SPOOK---(the cat)

I'm almost sure that If I would have found her I would have brought her home.

**** don't get any ideas....(no pawning pets off on me)

but spook was that EXTRA nice cat I'd be willing to pay all those vet bills for.

WOW this A.M. -- I went to PHALEN, COMO, Orchard, and MOUNDS all before 10AM.

what a great morning.

I didn't plan on going to Mound but that Highway 52 road being closed made me take a different trip home....so I went and checked on a geocache for IAN.

I was at a wedding shower in the Engelmeiers back yard tonight, Kitch.  That ravine would be a cool place for a geocache!

I KNOW!!!

IT IS A SWEET RAVINE...

Maggie...my neice was sledding on that hill 2 winters ago....wow what a cooler sledding hill....

but she broke her leg....

but its still one of the coolest trails I know in the city in the fall!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you guys talking about the Kaposia Park valley from hwy 52 down to Concord?  If so, I totally agree on the fall time beauty.  It's kinda cool that only a few people know about it too.  Not as touristy as some place like Afton at that time of year.

If it's not where you're talking about, I'd love a new place to check out for the fall colors if it's public anyway.
