Clue #1 -
If you want to get an "A" in this hunt

And Gilbert Godfrey is half of the mystery
We follow Ma Press for this hunt
No destroying the land
Keep it on public property
And soon you will have medallion in hand

Clue # 2 -
For just one bet, venture through this wonderful exhibit
Think you know me? Fool you know nothing
But know this hunt will fool even the best of you
This hunt will be the hardest thing you will do

Clue # 3 -

If you think you’re tough enough to step into this ring
Think again
Is this your clue??
I don’t know, guess so

Clue # 4

Think high but look low
Don't follow the flow
This is not going to be as fast as you think
Some may look North, while some might look South
Just never look West

Clue # 5

If you overlook Merriam
You're in the right frame of mind
Just walk down the aisle
And think of the Right place in time

Clue # 6

Some may not call me a park
But some of you may
Right now they say I am
But not back in the day
So think about this while you hunt for the prize
This one is finally the right size

Clue # 7

In this, 1 of 6 hunts, no Mound can be found
But the native beacon can be seen for miles around
Surrounded by spirits and ghosts
To the West-Northwest you can see my post
And if you’re close you may have seen
An extra clue, for your sickness, a vaccine

was it really on the capitol overlook? or under it?
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 5:29 AM Permalink
KITCH

I'm thinking they had it hanging off the side of it...since there was some string on it...

but when I got there it was ducttaped to the top of the railing.

It was an very easy spot..

Yesterday I was there...and I didn't get out of my car cuz I was on a 25 min phone call at the moment...

where did you find the extra clue??

OT

Congratulations, Kitch!

I used to make the PP hunt clues fit that place every year. lol I thought eventually it would end up there until the hunt got so big I knew it was too small. When me2 posted about the old science museum building I thought it was a possibility it was there for this hunt.

On the west/northwest post of the fence around the light beacon in mounds park.

This is what the clue said:

Clue # 7

In this, 1 of 6 hunts, no Mound can be found

But the native beacon can be seen for miles around

Surrounded by spirits and ghosts

To the West-Northwest you can see my post

And if youÂ’re close you may have seen

An extra clue, for your sickness, a vaccine

============================================

BONUS CLUE:

If you found this you know

you're in the wrong park

But not in the dark

For some place near down town

In a memorial park

is the treasure your seekin

and from that spot

you can see this here beacon

mrmnmikey

congratulations kitch!
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 5:56 AM Permalink
mrmnmikey

they may have hidden it that way. The extra clue was an envelope with writing on it(a letter?) and had a strip of magnet taped to it and stuck on the top rail of the fence.

There may have been a letter in it originally, but the envelope was open because of the rain. If there was a letter it blew away.
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 6:11 AM Permalink
Wicked Nick

that was one of the bonus letters...

the other is/was at Merriam, unless somebody got that too...

Congrats Kitch!

Jeremy has your loot...

and yours too Mikey!

you're right though.... we had to do some maintenace on it, a couple of times...

had it hanging with the strongest fishing line you could use, and it snapped off twice...

you coulda called....

all we get this time of the day, is calls from telemarketers..... that was one call, I wouldnt have cared about

clue explanations to come at some point

I loked at merriam in the rain the other night. Didn't see nothing or nobody exept some guy playing golf. Maybe I would have found it if it wasn't raining
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 6:37 AM Permalink
KITCH

hmmmm

I wonder....did you have friends check on it yesterday??
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 6:37 AM Permalink
Wicked Nick

it was originally strapped to the underside of the bleachers on the field, where the PP medallion was found...

but the other day, we checked on it, after the rain, and it had fallen into the leaves below, and gotten covered up.... decided that it was still a pretty good place to hide it.... so it stayed put

by the way...

the "magnet" you refer to, is actually the Letter I

"R" is at Merriam.
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 6:39 AM Permalink
Wicked Nick

myself and Carolyn had been there a couple of times, as it has been raining a crap load lately....

I went last night, after not checking on it, for a couple of days...

after serious thought, and placing it, I thought that hanging it was gonna be bad.... and I was right...

last night about 2 am, it was way down on the ground below, so I had to climb down and bring it back up....

figured it wouldnt be long, til somebody found it, so I taped it up pretty good....

Never fails.. my schedule never allowed me to go look until today - had a good feeling on where to start and thought better check online one more time...bam!

Oh well that's life of a treasure hunter - I'm happy for you Kitch!!

So what to do with my day now....hmmm
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 6:44 AM Permalink
mrmnmikey

heh, your right. Its not a magnet. Just checked. Cool! At least I won something! I was gonna look under the bleachers too but was getting too late and cold and wet plus the guy playing golf I decided to head home instead.
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 6:45 AM Permalink
mrmnmikey

I don't know why I never checked the overlook. I should have been there the first day but kept putting it off. I was going to go today though, but kitch beat me to it.
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 6:47 AM Permalink

interesting...

If I would have gone last nite I doubt I would have found it...

glad I didn't...

I said I should go and look...didn't until 3 days later...

Congrats Kitch!!!

As for Mike, why didn't you post last night that you found the clue at Mounds? Not the actual clue, just the fact that you found it would have been nice... I was out there at like 7:30 this morning, at first I looked around the fence around the beacon, then in the brush where it was hidden in 1987. Ah well, no worries, there was a beautiful sunrise this morning.

Also, is the "R" still out at Merriam?
Sat, 10/20/2007 - 7:26 AM Permalink
Wicked Nick

as far as we know, the R is still out there....

we'll be going to get it, sometime today....

CLUE EXPLANATIONS

Clue # 1 -

If you want to get an “A” in this hunt

Brush UP on your history

Ramsey is the location

And Gilbert Godfrey is half of the mystery

explanation: letting you know that you're hunting for the letter "A"

Brushing up, refers to the fact that its an overlook

"Gilbert" is half the mystery, because the park is Cass Gilbert Memorial Park

----------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 2 -

For just one bet, venture through this wonderful exhibit

Think you know me? Fool you know nothing

But know this hunt will fool even the best of you

This hunt will be the hardest thing you will do

explanation: all this clue says is the wonderful exhibit part - which refers to the Capitol building

---------------------------------------------------

Clue # 3 -

If you think youÂ’re tough enough to step into this ring

Think again

Is this your clue??

I donÂ’t know, guess so

explanation: the "ring" refers to the octagon shaped overlook..... UFC, and ultimate fighting use that shape for their ring

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 4

Think high but look low

Don't follow the flow

This is not going to be as fast as you think

Some may look North, while some might look South

Just never look West

explanation: "Think high" - meaning the overlook... "but look low" - look over the rail

"dont follow the flow" - not by the river

"Some may look North, while some might look South

Just never look West" - leads you to the east side of the overlook, where the A was at.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 5 -

If you overlook Merriam

You're in the right frame of mind

Just walk down the aisle

And think of the Right place in time

explanation:

the park used to be called "Merriams Overlook" a long time ago

this clue could also lead to Merriam park, where one of the bonus clues were hidden

"just walk down the aisle" = the aisle to the overlook

"and think of the Right place in time" = the "R" is capitalized, because that was the bonus clue letter at Merriam park.... "think of the Right place in time", also refers to looking into the past, when it was referred to by another name

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 6 -

Some may not call me a park

But some of you may

Right now they say I am

But not back in the day

So think about this while you hunt for the prize

This one is finally the right size

explanation: when it was Merriams Overlook, it wasnt considered a park....

this clue also refers to the fact that some people refer to it as an overlook, and not many consider the place to be an actual park, still.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 7 -

In this, 1 of 6 hunts, no Mound can be found

But the native beacon can be seen for miles around

Surrounded by spirits and ghosts

To the West-Northwest you can see my post

And if youÂ’re close you may have seen

An extra clue, for your sickness, a vaccine

explanation:

"In this, 1 of 6 hunts, no Mound can be found" - this line refers to the fact that we're doing 6 hunts as a group; and no mound can be found, because the "A" isnt there, however the clue still leads you to Mounds park, because that is where the other bonus clue letter "I" is at.

"An extra clue, for your sickness, a vaccine" - refers to both, the fact that that you can see Regions Hospital from the overlook, as well as the bonus clue being at Mounds

Wicked Nick

the rest of the clues and their explanations

Clue # 8 -

So if you havenÂ’t given up by now

Then you should know that you can see L and Q from me

You can see gold, not from here, but over there

Look to your left and right, and many things you will see

Four ramps and four banks to do your financing

If you see two cranes, then hot you will be

My height can be deceiving

But alas, level with the street am I

But to the Southwest, bright light

Gold is almost out of my sight

explanation: Parking lots L and Q of the Capitol are visible from the overlook

You can see the gold horses from one spot of the overlook

You can spot 4 parking ramps, as well as four banks (1st National, Wells Fargo, Bremer, and Securian), and 2 building cranes

Though the overlook appears high from below, it is at street level

To the Southwest bright light = the Capitol is to the Southwest of the overlook

Gold is almost out of my sight = You can see a little of the gold horses from the overlook.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 9 -

From me, you used to see SPPD,

But now I have moved and maybe you can still see me

I see an ER in front of me and a lot to the back

From a bonus clue park you can see “I”, light, and St. Paul’s legendary stack

I am close to downtown and still not in the right place

I am one of the forgotten parks, lost in time and space

explanation: The old SPPD building used to be visible from the overlook

The ER is Regions and there is a parking lot behind you if you walk straight out to the overlook

The bonus clue park refers to Mounds where the "I" was hidden, you can also see the beacon from the overlook, and the smoke stack

The forgotten park line refers to the fact that most people don't think of the overlook as an actual park.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 10 -

Brothers we are

Rice is our name

Check out significant buildings

In 1881 destroyed by flame

explanation: Rice Street, which is named after Edmund Rice, is not far away; and Charles Street, which was named after Charles (brother to Edmund) Rice, runs directly into the parking lot

The first Capitol was destroyed by fire in 1881

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 11 -

Look to the Grassy Knoll

In the ninth month there was an attack

If youÂ’re in the right place

The Government will be at your back

explanation:

The attacks on 9/11 are thought by some to be a conspiracy, which would indicate the government turned their backs on us, hence the Govt will be at your back on the overlook.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Clue # 12 -

Looks like weÂ’re all out of time, brother

EverybodyÂ’s out of time

We gots to tell them

All secrets will now be told

No more hidden messages

This is it yÂ’all

Times up

Everything be out right here

No need for the reverse talking

Northeast of the Capitol building

Down the aisle, to the east

Cass Gilbert Memorial Park is where you want to reside

To the east, over the brink, the letter “A” you will find

Gather your treasure, keep it safe and clean

If itÂ’s messed up for Kitch, guaranteed, heÂ’ll be mean

explanation: Explains the beloved "A" is at Cass Gilbert Memorial Park on the east side of the overlook hung over the wall.

The last line explains the "A" is Kitch's and he'll be pissed if you wreck it, or keep it... you don't want a pissed off Kitch on your butt

(Thanks for ruining clue #12, Kitch.. )

bonus clues/explanations

Bonus Clue at Mounds

Bonus Clue # 1 (Mounds - Letter “I”)

If you found this you know

YouÂ’re in the wrong park

But not in the dark

For someplace near downtown

In a memorial park

Is the treasure youÂ’re seekinÂ’

And from that spot

You can see this here beacon

explanation: drats.. the "A" isn't in this castle, Mario.. :frown:

BUT! You are closer than the rest of the hunters, because the clue says you can see the beacon from the overlook. You can't see the beacon from too many places, can you?

Also tells you what area you should be in and that it's a memorial park

-----------------------------------------

Bonus Clue at Merriam

Bonus Clue # 2 (Merriam - Letter “R”)

In the wrong park are you

But only for a few more clues

35 isnÂ’t close, but it isnÂ’t far

ItÂ’s an important age for this parkÂ’s star

explanation: guess what..? you're in the wrong park

Drats! another wrong castle, Mario.. you've been foiled again. Mwahahaha

Cass Gilbert was 35 when he built the Capitol

35E isn't far from the overlook either.

we also wrote a "sudden death" clue, that we planned to release at the park, should it not have been found after a certain amount of time, on Clue 12....

Sudden Death:

If you havenÂ’t figured it out by now

YouÂ’re looking for the overlook

On the east side, reach over and carefully retrieve the A

You found the Wicked Clown medallion; put this one in the book

explanation: tells you where it is, silly

I hinted that I found it. If you read the clue and then my post after it saying I got my fix, I thought you might get it. I even posted a link to my other post about "anybody want to buy a clue?"

I didn't want anybody knowing for sure I had it because then people would want to know what it said and where I found it. I was gonna look today and then release the extra clue tonight to everyone because I cant look after today.

I even called Jana and was going to tell her I found it but she didn't answer her phone. When she called later I decided not to say anything at that point because I wanted a chance to find it myself today.
