I know....they have a shady reputation. My cousin works for Rudy Luther. He said Denny Hecker takes cars with salvage or flood titles and ships them to Mexico where they get new clean titles and then he ships them back to the U.S. and re-titles them here with clean titles. A supervisor at work use to work for DH and said thay they make most of there money from financing kick backs from the volume of cars they sell. So never tell them you're paying cash until after you settled on a price.
I would have never bought from them.... but they had the truck I wanted, and we got it at the price WE wanted. If that truck hadn't been there, we would've walked.
Speaking of....stopped at Caribou this morning and they offer you your drink free if you purchase a $20 gift card. So you can order the most expensive item on the board, and get it free, Answer to today's trivia question: White Castle
Our home eq (First Bank) is fixed at 6.99 but it slowly went to 7,75 and then now 8
when I called them on it they said that can happen even with a fixed rate. Its a certain amount over prime. Doesn't a FIXED rate mean it doesnt EVER change? anyone REALLY know the answer and not just an oppinion? kitch?
home eq. I think you have to lock in certain amounts at the fixed rate. That is how my WAMU one was - I could spend X and then *lock* in that at the current low rate - the rest of the unspent $ should I spend it later was subject to a higher rate.
but with a 30 or 15 yr mortgage fixed is fixed.
There are the ARM's that are fixed for the first 3 years and then go up and up and up, but have caps they can't exceed with each of the increases, and a cap max they must stay within also.
I get to act as interpreter between our supply vendor and the software tech support, whom all happen to be russian (not the supply vendor). Interesting to have a conversation with the software guys, feel like I'm watching a 80s james bond movie.
So as long as I'm needing to learn how to translate (not only english, but techanize) I might as well just monkey around with the software myself and just make it work... If only I had a full time IT job.. where I could devote my 70+ hours a week to learning this stuff, instead of answering phones, handling issues, training temps, listening to griping co-workers, running the internal network, fixing printers, installing software, keeping the crappy VoIP phones working, calling tech support for other "issues", staying after hours just to get any of the above stuff done because the phones keep ringing all day with customers, and lets not forget giving the boss a status update on all above issues, or just answering any silly question he pops by my desk to ask me.
got home last night at 1am.. because someone goofed on a tax code for 1700 customers, and they had to be updated manually...
Yes, I complain too much, and yes, I'm sure I could do something about all of it. Unfortunately life isn't offering me the luxury of having time to stop and think anymore. In fact, I've spent my free time today writing this.
although, the free lunches, I'd be skeptical about.... Ive gotten those deals from previous work-places, and it usually comes with "I need a favor, from you"
I don't know if I'm exactly the sole savior of the company, but I do know I'm in a very pivotal role right now. I could be replaced, but it'd cost a lot.
I left work today genuinely tired, not an act by any means of the word. about 6:30 we were still talking about work, and everyone noticed I was starting to drift out of conciousness. At least I was able to stay focused enough to drive home safe.
I have learned a few things over the last month. The value of hard work, and the value of time off. Also a lot about how a company works, and how things can fall apart very badly. Amazingly I've been able to come this far and still keep my sanity, not to mention still be able to talk with former co-workers (most of whom don't want to talk to anyone left at the new place besides myself). And I've managed to keep my integrity, and still remain honest to a fault (when dealing with a corporate entity that has gone through these kind of changes, involving a lot of legal hoops to jump through, being honest with everyone is VERY hard to do). I also learned it'd be nice to have a family, as I would have a good excuse to work less hours, and have a bit of a support system to fall back on. All in good time I suppose.
Now, off to get a few hours of sleep before I start the madness over again.
I don't care if the safety of the free world requires me to be at my job this weekend, I'm not going in.
Okay that was slightly dishonest, something will probably come up over the next two days, and I'll cave as usual and go into work anyway, but a man can dream...
that's a heloc. you've got a fixed margin over prime. when prime moves, your rate moves. and prime moves every time the fed raises the overnight funds rate.
If only I had a full time IT job.. where I could devote my 70+ hours a week to learning this stuff, instead of answering phones, handling issues, training temps, listening to griping co-workers, running the internal network, fixing printers, installing software, keeping the crappy VoIP phones working, calling tech support for other "issues", staying after hours just to get any of the above stuff done because the phones keep ringing all day with customers, and lets not forget giving the boss a status update on all above issues, or just answering any silly question he pops by my desk to ask me.
sounds like you already do have a full time it job :frown:
not technically though, it's not my title, in fact, I don't have a title, nor a list of job responsibilities.
Frankly I'm sick of the rollercoaster too. Starting at 8 in the morning, the day seems okay, by noon, the moral is in the toilet, tons of phonecalls from upset customers, and we spend the afternoon correcting errors. By the end of the day (6 to 8pm normally) everyone is on edge, except for me, I'm just exhausted, but they all say tomorrow will be better and calm down after a bit by the time they go home. repeat this cycle for 4 weeks, including weekends.
Today, I actually got ahead a bit, I was actually trying to improve some processes, go in and let the boss know, and all he can do is suggest other options or shoot down the things I tried. It always seems like a one way street with him, or just when you have something figured out, he asks another off the wall question about what you're doing. Now he's been going from a week of being thankful and promising to give us some time off to being stressed out and torqed off anytime we ask him something.
I don't ask for good days here anymore, I just ask for an easier bad day.
I need to add coloring wooden birds to be strung together at a cancer relay to my list of things I do.
KC - I have been in that same toilet. I was a tasting room manager a few years back, and when I was hired 4 of the 6 employees quit. I worked 67 days straight 12+ hours a day to make the ship not sink.
I succeeded, and it felt great. But I learned that you just have to adapt a happy (to the point people think you are manic happy) attitude and not give a f*ck.
"Free" lunch excuse of the day, a good one actually. The boss hands me a menu from a deli, while I'm dealing with 2 customers and 1 technical issue, at the same time, then he comes back and asks if I picked something out. My actual response, "I'm too busy to think of what I want".
They got a couple cute gals in working as temp to hires. Sadly they're all married and have kids.
Funny thing is they all talk like partying teenagers, going to clubs and drinking and whatnot.
I can't have an intelligent conversation with any of them (no offense to anyone, I just can't relate to that lifestyle).
what am I saying? like I have time to carry on a conversation anyway. I officially have NO life anymore. talking in here is about as much social interaction as I can manage now. And I'm not even very good at that, heh.
Basically they have 2 modes of conversation right now. Parties and clubbing, and Television shows.
I really have no inclination on either subject.
I'll try to start with something simple, like the weather.
BTW, I don't mean to demean anyone and say they're incapable of intelligent conversation. I just don't seem to find anything I can talk with them about.
Then again, I'm working 70+ hours a week now, it's amazing I can form complete sentences anymore.
roofing projects.... the house across the street is getting a new roof. They usually work until all day until 8:30 pm!!!! Being a day sleeper sucks when it seems every house in the neighborhood is getting a new roof. This is the 3rd house in less than 2 years. :asleep:
well, I could do 50% of their conversations... I have no idea how anyone can actually talk about TV for longer than a minute (unless of course they are talking about Trick my Truck)
heh.
Try talking about food/restaurants. Chances are they consume edible substances, and chances are back when you had a life, you ate too.
I have no idea on music, and usually listen to talk radio, or more recently informational podcasts. I think I really need another techie in the office.. except none of them would work as cheaply as I do.
Go ahead, name an artist, 95% of the time I'll give you a blank look in return.
I have no idea how anyone can actually talk about TV for longer than a minute
I could talk your ear off just about tonight's TV series and season finallys. Never knock the Boob Tube baby. It educates the majority of todays youth. :eyeroll:
Hey KC - I put in the same time and effort that you are for years. It really drains a person. But I only understood the real importance of work life once the family came into the picture. I didn't change my work ethics, I just figured out my priorities and went through too many unappreciated stressful ventures and put things in perspective.
No offence here, but all that hard work you're putting in right now ain't gonna mean shit in a few years. As long as you feel you did your part, don't sweat it. It really isn't worth it. Plus, it isn't what's expected of you in the first place.
I know CM feels the same way.
There is something evil about the way they do business.
I would have never bought from them.... but they had the truck I wanted, and we got it at the price WE wanted. If that truck hadn't been there, we would've walked.
Damn right!
I will drive miles and miles to find a car..
somebody who obviously counted their chickens, well before they hatched.
does that mean that I only counted 1/2 the chicks? or half the eggs?

Unfortunately, the glass I was talking about was full of b.s. though...
Im gonna stop thisafternoon and grab that deal
irritating: The bank selling our mortgage to another bank!!!!! time to refinance. anyone know anyone that refi's at under 5% (like Chris Digger)
when I called them on it they said that can happen even with a fixed rate. Its a certain amount over prime. Doesn't a FIXED rate mean it doesnt EVER change? anyone REALLY know the answer and not just an oppinion? kitch?

I'm looking into a complete refi now
irritant: Mark working an 18 hour day :frown:
Heh. I had an interview yesterday (with that company from a month ago.. long process)
I was asked what a typical day was like.
Actual Vino Day:
Check Email, Check PP board, Check CC boards, Myspace. Repeat. have lunch/tan Repeat 4pm - do some work
What I told them Day:

Check Email, Check CC board, Check CC boards, Myspace. Check egrams Check Repeat. have lunch -back to step one.

When the going gets tough - put on a happy face.

Just because they like to go out and have fun and live life differently, doesn't mean they can't be capable of an intelligent conversation.
Perhaps you just need to find a little common ground and not focus on the differences.
You can do it. I have faith in you.

they are prolly fans of that thumping stuff as well, and a good common ground.

But sorry to hear that they keep you up... :asleep:
and that came up as a trivia question on Tuesday night.
I weigh it out like this: TV vs. night out with conversation and doing something with friends that will never be replicated.
friends win.
Panic! at the Disco
Fallout Boy
Saving Jane
heh. I couldn't tell you who does most songs either until I got my sirius sat. and now it's really easy.
The good news is, 80's music is way hip all over again...
