Re: The Hunt for the Golden Beer Can Clue #3

Ah. No, I don't think that means anything. It's just due to different mediums allowing for different widths.
Here is what's puzzling me. It seems to me that the end of clue 2 is pretty clearly saying that the park shares a name with a county. Looking at all the park pool guesses and things people are posting, vey few other people seem to be taking that into account.

Ha, I just realized I gave my post the wrong title. These are the PP clues.
I heard someone else mention a variation between the paper clue and the online clue, but I couldn't see what difference was?

The Hunt for the Golden Beer Can Clue #3

1 year 4 months ago
Sorry, I fell asleep last night.

Clue #1

At last it’s time for vexatious rhyme

To goad you to fortune and fun

Here’s a clue: Something old, something new

Off you go! The race has begun

Clue #2

This is the year of the pioneer

An enterprise first of its kind

An event historic we feel euphoric

Like a park hunter grasping the find

It’s the 175th year since that newsman came here

With his press afloat he did embark

He’s got his own county, a majestic bounty

That he’s got in common with the park

Clue #3

The search for gold never gets old

This year, add beer can and gnome

Sincerest flattery or idle chattery?

Our treasure sits atop the loam.

I think you may be right about Bald Eagle/Otter Lake Regional Park, David. But not for the connection to Otter Tail County and Goodhue County.
This may be the connection:

Below is from the article:
A few of the other Bald Eagle historical fun facts learned during the presentation included:     • The first settlers came in the mid-1800s and most were French, English or German. One of the early settlers worked for the Minnesota Pioneer and promoted the lake in that newspaper.

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
