Re: 2024 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt Clue #4

Oh yea, that's some good thinking there. This is still the park I'm leaning towards. Bald Eagle was used before but the west side of the lake would be new. And maybe last night's clue is referring to Otter View Trail? There's also a Lakeview Ave. running into the south end of the park, Maybe the city council is just a red herring and they just wanted to make a mention of it?

Probably way off, I can make the clues fit any park if I try hard enough. Leaning towards bald eagle/otterlake, first settlers to the whitebear area were 1849*. Goodhue promoted it in the pioneer and started the land boom, first places to sell were on the west side of bald eagle lake.

I was wondering that too, though a downtown park certainly wouldn't be dark. But I guess that clue could just refer to streetlights not working (but how could they be sure they wouldn't be fixed before or during the hunt?)
Maybe it's just referring to a street that has "view" in it's name, though that seems a bit unlikely. What I really hope is that it's not another one of those clues where you have to figure out where these people live.

With "We'll observe" and "their views" in this clue, it makes me think that both the Pioneer Press and the City Council can see the park.  Maybe Harriet? _._,_._,_

First things come to mind are "burst" might be something that happens within the park? Fireworks? Mindful and views remind me of Fairview Avenue. Maybe with this clue they are throwing people off by suggesting it's in a park in city of saint paul?

2024 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt Clue #5

Clue #1

At last it’s time for vexatious rhyme

To goad you to fortune and fun

Here’s a clue: Something old, something new

Off you go! The race has begun

Clue #2

This is the year of the pioneer

An enterprise first of its kind

An event historic we feel euphoric

Like a park hunter grasping the find

It’s the 175th year since that newsman came here

With his press afloat he did embark

He’s got his own county, a majestic bounty

That he’s got in common with the park

Clue #3

The search for gold never gets old

This year, add beer can and gnome

Sincerest flattery or idle chattery?

Our treasure sits atop the loam.

Clue #4

You set out to search, but had to lurch

Because the sunlight has expired

For your hunt to go great, it’s okay to stay out late

If you’re able to get lights wired

Clue #5

A city first, its pride does burst

For St. Paul’s all-woman council

We’ll observe, for the reader we serve

Of their views we’ll be mindful

could the something old something new be that the new location of the pioneer press building is near the park.

The year of the pioneer and the enterprise first of it's kind is the original paper James Goodhue started?

Although I do feel like Clue 4 might be about all the broken street lights in St. Paul but I kinda think that might have affected every park

The Hunt for the Golden Beer Can Clue #7

1 year 4 months ago
It's not too late to get in on the Hunt for the Golden Beer Can if you're not feeling it with the Medallion Hunt just yet. Clue #7 is out and Clue #8 will be released at St. Paul Brewing tomorrow night. You just need a Winter Carnival button!

Clue #1

From all throughout our realm we call treasure hunters home to St. Paul

To invite you each, one and all to seek our golden can of beer.

On public land is where it hides. Let city limits be your guides.

Prepare to take a lot of strides if you’re going to walk from here.

And thus St. Paul Brewing extends this invite to our darling friends

Where your hunting success depends on finding water of three kinds.

There’s a happy end to this tale if you stay off the beaten trail.

Articles provide some detail, but not the ones that cover finds.

Clue #2

Even with all the time you’ve got, a picnic this pursuit is not.

We’ve picked a rather rustic spot that doesn’t evoke the city.

You’re not going to need a ball, no vendors there as we recall.

Really, mostly nothing at all, but with snow the hills are pretty.

Clue #3

While our can sits on ground quite dry, a changing current is nearby.

Paddling might help you should you try, but no need for you to get wet.

Catalogs you may disregard, and getting letters can prove hard

But count an old-styled postcard as what people would love to get.

Clue #4

Since it’s not easy being green, blue and purple it sits between.

Just lying in a sylvan scene where many more trees used to grow.

If it helps you determine where, look in a park that’s far from square.

Because there’s a lot of land there we can get by without much snow.

Clue #5

Best not to take the interstate when going to town twenty-eight.

But finding a Montville estate puts you in the right neighborhood.

There’s a definite point to start, but from that path you must depart.

As you’re walking it would be smart to gain sight of water and wood.

Clue #6

You want to get this hunt begun? Look everywhere under the sun.

This engagement will not be won until your mark you plainly see.

Locating the place where it sits can take a fair amount of wits.

Surely you didn't think that it’s elementary as can be?

Clue #7

If no success after seven times, maybe nine or even ten?

Surely you’ll hop on it by then! We think the assumption is fair.

But if it seems like up is down, and you’re running all over town,

The best way to avoid a frown is to keep both eyes over there.

Anagram rules

Are there any rules you guys/girls use for solving anagrams? What I mean by that is do you think it’s a stretch to re-use a letter, or have leftover letters?

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
