I was wondering about a chain of lakes, but if you believe it is in St. Paul, I think that would mean only Phalen qualifies? The clue kind of makes it sound to me like a chain is what is hidden with it. David

Wondering if searching for a park with theater, music, or the arts is hinted at by using the word muse. Or if the word muse is rhymed with news for a reason. We are told to "tackle these rhymes". Anagrams anyone?
Secretrose, I think you’re onto something. Just throwing this out there, too … there used to be a PP columnist named Garett Hiebert who wrote under the pen name Oliver Towne (read: all over town).
Okay! So we have (fishing) 'tackle' in the first clue and now 'perch' in Clue 2. And possibly a Gloria Dei Church for 'glory'. Only church by that name in Ramsey County is by Highland Park. Does' all around the town' mean it's in St. Paul? Or anywhere in Ramsey County 'surrounding' St. Paul? Too many choices. The real clue nugget has to be in lines 3 and 4. If anyone can figure that out, they'll have a head start on finding the medallion.
Clue #2 Descend from your perch, set out to search East Side, west side, all around the town Glory will reign when you find the chain To go with your cap and gown
And the previous clue:
The viral pandemic is now endemic
And the battle’s on for Ukraine
Take a break from the news to follow your muse And tackle these rhymes with your brain
There are 9 muses in Greek mythology. There are 9 Ramsey County parks. This may help narrow down the parks to be looking at? Just throwing this thought out there...
And this does not scream Battle Creek at all right? Stay very far away from there....lol Its too obvious and way too early. SO cross off of list, I think its pointing away from Battle Creek. Or....?
Interesting that "take a break" is from the musical Hamilton with a lyric "a lake in a nearby park". Muses make me think of women. A lake with a woman's name, perhaps? That would fit with tackle. I also think of the Kit-Kat bar and "taking a break". Another word for muse is "mouses". Cat and mouse game for sure! Happy Hunting!
Thanks Bob! Now the question is, does it mean anything at all? You have two days to decide. A tackle is something you can do in soccer. It must be on Allianz Field! lol David

Sorry to be so absent. I've been furiously working on getting the Scavenger Hunts together for the Winter Carnival and haven't had much time to think about the Medallion Hunt, but I will be at the Pre-Dig on Saturday (which is happening again this year at Joseph's Grill in St. Paul starting at 6pm in the private room). Since I am officially part of the Winter Carnival now, I've given up actually looking for the Medallion. The PP runs the Medallion Hunt and it is no longer part of the Winter Carnival so I have nothing to do with it, but I still think it would look bad to a lot of people if I happened to find it. But I'm still interested in helping one of you find it! So I'll be posting the clues here as well as any thoughts I have on them (but not thoughts that other people tell me in confidence). I think I was pretty far off last year so my help isn't always helpful, but usually someone here gets it right!
The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
