Re: FOUND - Memorial Beach in WBL

4 years 5 months ago
Sorry I wasn't on top of this news earlier but I've been having a busy day. But congratulations to Josh for finding it.
I was pretty sure it was at West park, but partly because of ideas other people told me and I wasn't really at liberty to repeat. The big one I got from Matt Koskie was the clue about the countdown. He pointed out to me that the lunar module names for Apollo 11 was "Eagle" and Apollo 10 was "Snoopy". That suggested to me the park was between 10th and 11th. The nearby McDonalds might have been the thing we love (their slogan is "I'm lovin it"). Avoid the shifting sands told me it was West Park and not the adjacent beach. Some people here pointed out the adjacent complex was the "Chateauguet". There was a gazebo for shelter and benches to recover as well as plenty of picnic tables for cooking and eating. Lake Ave on one side was a one way road. The Gatsby clue was suggestive of White Bear Lake. So that was what made me think it was there. I think I was also the only person to guess that park in the pool prior to it being found, so I think I win the pool!

Well the cats outa the bag there. That was located on 2nd and Lake. No longer existing. No parks nearby.
If you want a connection to a local park- the “Chateauguet” condos lie just to the north of  west park/memorial beach.
There were quite a few yesterday and I imagine this might only worsen that.

Why is Winter capitalized? hmmmmm-  I'm thinking Winter you hear ... is a song, is there a clue in a popular winter song? Winter Wonderland? Something in the song? Just noodlin'

That is strange. There are some people who have been thinking Highland. I wouldn't rule it out.

Clue #8

4 years 5 months ago
Here is the new clue:

Clue #8
Get up and go, leave your chateau; Heed the call of Winter you hear. Tackle life this way to be happy and gay And find you a treasure most dear.
And here are the previous clues:

Clue #7 Count down from eleven and you’ll be in heaven Flying high as would an eagle. Look down from above to find what you love Then sniff out the prize like a beagle   Clue #6 Escape the heat, cook and eat At this playland far from the masses. A place to recover or even take cover – Life here was slow as molasses.   Clue #5 Things looked rosy, a pocketful of posey. We remember it all too well. We were happy back then but beyond our ken: It soon would all go to hell.   Clue #4 We’re moving ahead, no oncoming dread. Our future’s in our hands. This new term is about what’s firm Let’s avoid the shifting sands.   Clue #3 No time, old sport, to play and cavort. Pursue the grail with your schemes! Out at night? Then follow the light To cross the way to your dreams.   Clue #2 Stay away from links and risky hijinks. Disturb not ground, tree or trail. Don’t wait for last clue to know what to do; This year you’ll figure or fail.   Clue #1 Be it turmoil endemic or global pandemic It’s been a tough year for us all. So rather than punt, we renewed this year’s hunt: Join us, it’ll be a ball!   Don’t be odd, stay in your pod. Keep six feet away from strangers. Wear a mask when on your task To keep all safe from dangers.

Park Pick Pool Update

4 years 5 months ago
So as we close in on Clue 8, here is where the pool picks stand on Clue 7. There is a definite lack of a favorite.

Some of the random names and parks you see on there are left over from last year as I didn't want to recreate all of my formulas in Excel.

Ahh, sometimes you get a countdown on some of those newer cross walks, mostly near the city though, but maybe out in the burbs areas? But would those start at 11? I've seen them count down from 20 and then actually get audible with spoken numbers for visual impaired. So just a thought to look for some advanced cross walks nearby, and across the street, your heaven...or ie.. the part of the park your looking for?

After being out today and reflecting on the clues again it’s obvious to me now ( fool me once , won’t get fooled again) that the clue seven is imploring us to hunt from our homes and then get out and hit the snow.
Basically asking us to go on google maps (flying high eagle look down = birds eye view) and find stuff that fits the clues. Folks will remember they used this type of clue last year with the three bodies water clue.
I guess they get points for telling us to do it now. The evolution of the hunt I suppose.

The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. This is a public group so expect that anything posted will be seen by everyone.
