About the only fun I had on Memorial day weekend was going to see a movie on Friday, the Mrs. didn't want to see Star Wars so we settled for insomnia. It was shot in a part of Alaska I've been too so it was neat to see that but neither one of us thought it was anything great. It got 3.5 out of 4 stars. It's another perfect example of a movie getting good reviews only to see the movie and go.......HuH ? what movie did they see ?
I really wonder sometimes what they are looking for in a review because I have also seen movies that they said weren't very good that turned out ot be good movies that I enjoyed or blockbuster hits. My review of Insomnia.....Wait til it's on video.

i've actually got most reviewers' ratings systems figured out.

take the number of stars they give it. subtract that from the total possible. then add 1.

Good system Ares. I think I am not going to even bother reading reviews anymore, I'll stick to word of mouth or what looks good. Most overrated movie of all time in my book,,,,,,,,,,Titanic.

BTW sum of all fears looks pretty good. Anyone seen it ?

like i said. 4 stars possible, 4 stars given. on my system that makes it about a 1.

Ares post 142: kirsten dunst: hot!

That is too ironic Ares..I was talking with you earlier today and I almost mentioned at the time that Kirsten Dunst was on that medium show...John Edward. I didn't and then while slogging through posts I saw that you mentioned her and you thought she was hot! what are the odds of that?

Oh, I don't know. If he's finding those three attractive, he's got problems of his own to deal with. ;)

I have a thing for latin people...

Ares, did you watch the MTV movie awards? SMG was a co-host, she seems funny (I've never seen Buffy) they made her do some weird skits though.

in the immortal words of shaggy: "say it wasn't you".

I would have to say he did it. He's been identified in the videotapes, there is more than woman coming forward, and he's been known to work with younger talent.

oh, i'll agree with that, kids. kinda hard to deny your own voice coming from your own mouth on the tape (or at least that's what i heard on the radio yesterday morning, in case you're getting any ideas for a smart-assed comment, me2 :)

Went and saw Episode II with the family last night.

I thought it was pretty good but, the kids loved it. They couldn't stop talking about it.

I liked it too. The wife hasn't seen it yet.

Perhaps that's why so many of us are dissatisfied with Lucas' latest efforts: we are no longer children.

I wouldn't say I was dissatisfied with it.

I think the battle scenes were too long or what you could call too "Hollywood" but, the rest I found to be very good.

I think I was just called a child!

I think you're right, Frosti. :-)

Anyway, I was a child when the original Star Wars was released.

It kicked ass at the time.

I watch it now as an adult and am not as impressed as I was then.

My boys were just as much impressed with Episode II as I was with Star Wars.

Gotta remember, Star Wars was uncharted territory. Lucas will never be able to top that.

I agree though, he's not making these films for grown-ups.

Gosh, it was an innocent comment, really it was! Just mainly speaking to my own disappointment with Episode I, haven't seen AOTC yet, but will soon. And I honestly don't feel that I will ever again be able to recapture the magic of Star Wars, maybe because as THX says it had never been done before.

LL, Episode I was very disappointing.

I was much happier with AOTC.

However, if you're expecting a "Star Wars" experience, you will be disappointed.

Maybe I saw it from a different light since I had my boys with me because they loved it and were totally into it.

btw: My 14 year old daughter didn't get into it that much but she didn't care for Star Wars either.

Clue Master

Seen Sin City tonight.  I loved it but I also like movies like Pulp Fiction and Natural Born Killers.  On the cool scale, this movie was off the charts.  The black and white had an artistic feel to it.  Lotsa stars too.  Very violent and sometimes funny as hell.

Mikey Rourke's Marv is the toughest character to ever grace the silver screen.  One bad MF!
