1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

no prob, I have 3 sheets of paper full of info and I can't really make it out. To me, it all points to Newell but I don't think the PP would make it that easy on only the 3rd Clue. How many times in the past have people been right on with the 3rd clue?

1998's "Shovel Boy"

Golden Boy, if I'm off the mark here, let me know. But I'm assuming you've done this before, as have I, so you know good and well that the medallion is more frequently, way more frequently, in fact almost always, not just searched for, but found, in the larger parks. If my estimation is correct, it has been hidden at Como Park, more than anywhere else. Not to mention the fact that by clue 8, we're all pretty darn sure what park it's in. If you were here on the water cooler discussion last year, you know that we all had Cherokee pretty well pegged by about clue 5. I'm talking like positive i.d., we just didn't know where in Cherokee. Of course there were a few "idiots" who would come on from time to time and swear that digging up Mound, was the way to go, but we know that medallion will never be in Mound again. Whew, I'm rambling.....bed time!

I am looking at the first clue hard and wondering what "wasting time" and "won't be caught" could add up too.?.?.

Birdie - "Our Doubts make traitors of us all". The reason we're on line at 1 am is to figure it out ON THE THIRD CLUE. I think we need to keep exercising our minds - but I do think NP has more going for it than any other place right now. Re: It's a small park - It was hidden there in '84. Are you familiar with the park?

Not really similar. We do need to look because It has hinted at what it is in too because they always hint at what it is in by the 3rd clue.

Just throughing something out here,

nine and five, 1995 found in Battle Creek four = four years ago

Only Ski Jump in area?

maybe wasting TIME and the 9,5,4 means a clock.... maybe the numbers 9,5,&4 are the only ones visible from the precise location of the med... last year was like that with being able to see the capitol dome through the trees... the spot it was most visible from was the spot the med was in....

Maybe it is in a sample pack of Shout laundry detergent?

Shovel Boy - Yes Yes - I was here last year. And I would agree with you except that I think this year will be different - because of the 150th, besides they used Newell before in '84 I think. Como, Phalen, Highland, ya all good prospects, but Newell's got alot of references. If I were strap on the sorels tonight - I'd head to Newell. I guess we'll know alot more when the 4th and 5th clues come out.

What about the clock in Highland?????

#3 CHANCES ARE NIL IF YOU GET TO CLOSE TO THE ACTION. The clues are pointing us towards Newell. But clue #3 says that we should stay away from where everyone will be-NEWELL

150 anniversary of PP. Nil= 0 take 0 off of 150 = 15 15 years ago at newell park. Park is in 900 block. 15 years ago medallion was found attached to a broken 45rpm record. 9 4 5

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:00 AM Permalink
Amy Trandahl

900 block.....ummmmmm....just south of the fairgrounds (FAIRway) or just plain Fairview ave......I dunno:)

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:00 AM Permalink
Golden Boy

Matty - that would be near battle creek.

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:00 AM Permalink
ani

is there a graveyard near one of the parks......."near the gate"

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:01 AM Permalink
Barton Fink

maybe the 9, 5, and 4 all mean different things.... there are 9 innings in a baseball game which indicates a score board, i have no idea what sport the 5 could relate to, but the "somewhere a four" is in direct correlation to "adorn the front door" so maybe the building with the number 4 on it is near the baseball field and whatever 5 would mean...

Bill K - your grasp of numbers astounds me - you're stretching - but I like it.

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:03 AM Permalink

I don't know but newell is sounding good but don't hold me too that!!!Something else will probably sound better tomorrow this time! I hope its not though because I don't know newell to well!! :(

I have been trying to get the clues for all of the 80's but no luck.. Will let you know. All I know it that it was there in 84' in attatch to the Rpm....................

Maybe 9 5 and 4 are the positions on a softball field... they make a straight line...

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:05 AM Permalink
Barton Fink

hey ya know what??? i highly doubt that clues would refer to past hiding spots or what the med was hidden in that year... REMEMBER.. everyone doesnt have the internet and are forced to read the clues to mean PLACES or OBJECTS without any signifigance to the history of the hunt...

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:06 AM Permalink
Cammando WAyne

I think it goes way way back beyond our memories

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:07 AM Permalink

no they dont grahm

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:07 AM Permalink
Barton Fink

thats it....there are 5 players on a basketball or even hockey team... so now i think 9+keep score= baseball fields, 5=hockey rink and 4=the number on a door at the park....

Tue, 01/26/1999 - 1:08 AM Permalink
ani

dont all the parks have b-ball courts and hockey rinks?
