So here's the plan for this pool. It will cost you $5 to enter. You make a guess as to what park you think the Medallion is in. It can be a wild guess before the hunt even starts, or an informed guess based on the clues. You can make a guess at any time and you can change your guess as any time. However, the first person who named the correct park without changing it afterwards will be the winner of the pool.

So for example, if I guessed Highland Park, and then you also later guessed Highland Park, and it was indeed there, I would win. But if I guessed Highland Park, and then you guessed it, and then I changed my vote to Phalen, and then back to Highland, you would win because my guess of Phalen nullified my earlier guess of Highland and your guess of Highland preceded my second Highland guess.

Make sense?

So can I pick Highland Park?

Ramsey County is getting so friggin' picky with geocachers, they'd flip out about a medallion hunt.

NO WAY:

Pig's Eye
Tamarack Nature Center
Grass Lake
Sucker Vadnais Lake

I reallydoubt it:

Keller
Bald Eagle-Otter Lake
Beaver Lake
Island Lake
Lake Gervais
Lake Josephine
Lake Owasso
Poplar Lake
Turtle Lake

I'll put $5.00 on Hidden Falls Park

I gotta start with Indian Mounds Park due to all of the references last year. I can't seem let go yet.

You can pick Highland Park TMK. Other people can too. You would win if it really was there and you didn't change your vote in the meantime.

As for my guess...

I'm going to guess there's a new writer. A new writer is going to pick either a park they are already familiar with, or one that hasn't been used before so as to kind of "prove" themselves by doing something new and exciting. Maybe both. But since I don't know who the writer is or what parks they are familiar with, I'll go with one that hasn't been used before.

The last 3 years the medallion has been in the NW. I would think it's time to move out of there. I think it's been since 1994 that it was SW. I would want to think a larger park with places to hide something without snow, but I've been to Crosby and there isn't much to make clues out of there. So I'm going to start my guessing off with Linwood.

"I would want to think a larger park with places to hide something without snow"

Lets hope it's not the dreaded, unoriginal, Como. The park ya love ta hate. The Green Bay Packer of St. Paul parks. (as far as the hunt goes anyway)

I'm putting in my guess for phalen, only cuz it hasnt been there for so long.

I'm picking Highland. I already explained my thinking to Ares somewhat, but here goes. It's been like 9 years or so since it's been there. I also think that it will be in a big park this year. It was in a small park last year, and found really quick. That was with little snow, which it seems we have this year. They will want it to go longer. The odds of it going longer at a bigger park are greater. I doubt Como since it was recently there. Phalen is iffy because of the potential problems with Maplewood. I'm a bit wary of B.C. because of the school there. So I'm picking Highland.

highland was 94, bc was 95. i'll not be specific about the area of bc, just because there's a lot of park they can cover, without even coming close to the school, though i can't believe there's a lot of space down on the lower end of the park to hide it at.

Oh yeah, I forgot another part that makes me think of Highland. The golf course is going to be changed somewhat next season. They've already gone ahead and removed some trees on the course itself. If they are going to be doing work on the course anyways, I was thinking this year might be a good year to have it there. Not as much worry about hunters ruining the course for golfers. It won't be open next year anyways.

Ah, I see it now in the THG. A rather dark horse bet I'd say though.

Now here's a question. Since I can't make the party on the 18th, who's going to collect the money for the pool? Any volunteers?

I could use a little extra beer money! hehehe

I would collect it no problem!!

Alright, we'll have Marley collect the money. But people still need to post their guesses here. Telling you doesn't count unless you're willing to post it for them.

I will get a list going as I collect money! And post the list here after the pre-dig-gig.

OK- I like Central Park in Ramsey County- I think it is near Lexington and B2? Ares knows where it is. I like Langford for a St Paul Park-

Now noone specified that I couldn't pick one park in each area- Ramsey Co/St Paul or did someone?

like i said on the phone, that just means you have to place two distinct bets. just like you've done every week with your football picks.

You get one guess per hunt.

I figured you would hop in and bum me out-I am thinking this cluewriter will take the coin out of St Paul after what happened to him/her last yr. - but where else out of St Paul and still stay in Ramsey County without going north? I also agree with the theory that it has been in the Northern areas too much.

now I have to choose one. well for now I will keep Langford.

Well if thats the case looks like it's game over already. Just after you posted that I took off with my brother and VJ, and went out to a park in Hudson, and pretty much tripped over a hairbrush laying on the ground in the middle of a field.

Theres an idea! At least you will know I will hide the hairbrush BEFORE the hunt! LOL!

I encourage everyone to dig with a comb to find the hairbrush....and just guess what park it gonna be in..;)

I can see it now...the first hairbrush hunt will be fixed. We will all be in the same park searching for the medallion as Scribe is whistling "Scribe on the 'pop' rocks", so slyly looks around to see no one is looking at her as she pulls the hairbrush from her thermal olive colored overalls dropping it behind her in the field as she walks over to LLBell

speaking of which---where is she?

Dang it Me2...you just gave it away! I don't know where she is I'll try e-mailing her. THX and I ran into her and John this summer at Home Depot..I think it's the same phone and e-mail since then.

Yeah the bought a house and moved last spring. Thats why they were at Home Depot...repainting and such. It was pretty spooky being called "Scribe" in line at Home Depot in June.LOL!

lol. i bet it was. last spring my brother and his roommate visited marley's auto recycling center, and they thought it weird to hear jason called ares. of course, me2 still hasn't given up calling me ares either. she's even done it, i think, in front of her own mother. (which i must say her sister has never done, probably because she knew me as jason long before she knew me as ares)

oh, thats justs our Scribes imagination running amuck!

Havn't you heard of Scribes imaginary friend? Once in a while if you stand real close to her in line at the PP or in the park you can here her singing this tune ...

'Ares'

Young child with dreams
Dream ev'ry dream on your own
When children play
seems like you end up alone
Papa says he'd love to be with you
If he had the time
So you turn on the only friend you can find
There in your mind

Ares, when I was young
I used to call you name
When no one else would come
Ares, you always came
And we'd play

Young boy with fire
Something said he understood
I wanted to fly
he made me feel like I could (& pop rocks too)

Held my hand out, and I let him take me
Blind as a child
All I saw was the way that he made me smile
he made me smile

Ares, when I was young
I used to call you name
When no one else would come
Ares, you always came
And you'd stay

Had a dream, and it filled me with wonder
he had other plans
"Got to go, and I know that you'll understand"
I understand

Ares, when I was young
I used to call you name
When no one else would come
Ares, you always came
Come today
