Maybe one day when I drive into St. Paul, I won't have to set my watch back 30 years.

Backward city said no to the Twins and they'll do it again.

Come on Rick, don't be bitter.

Minneapolis can have the Twins and they can pay for the stadium as well. They just need to step up to the plate, so to speak.

Ann Bilansky and Como Lake

I found an article, Cecil, Matthew, “Justice in Heaven: The Trial and Execution of Ann Bilansky.” Minnesota History 55, no. 8 (Winter 1997-1998): 350-363. at the Ridgedale library microfilm files. The Como Lake reference is 3 or 4 sentences in a 14 page article.
Ann escaped from jail after the conviction but before the sentencing and hid out in high grass near Como Lake. She became desperate and somehow got word to her nephew Walker. The two of them tried to get away but were nabbed somewhere near St. Anthony Falls. Her escape must have pissed off the judge, because the evidence was pretty flimsy. The only witnesses against her were 1) Walker's jilted ex-girlfriend, 2) the girlfriend's best friend, and 3) a medical examiner who based his findings on a test for arsenic that he had never used before and that was considered very unreliable. The hubby, Stanislaus Bilansky, was a 53 year old drunk, wife-beater, and hypochondriac who went to the doctor about 20 times each year because he thought he was dying. Governor Ramsey mandated a hanging sentence. The judge went along with him.

There is also a play about Ann that I'm going to look up. This whole thing fascinates me. However, I don't see how anyone would ever know about her. Mayber the PP clue writer saw the play. Maybe the PP people know about her because she was hung almost exactly at the current location of the PP offices.

Does this ever end?

I hope not!

I've been waiting for Linus.

Woodstock would be cool too.

Aside from a chintzy looking placque in front of an old apartment and a theater, what does F. Scott Fitzgerald get in St. Paul?

I know it's hard to equal these cartoon characters because Schulz himself marketed them on just about every surface that could hold print; but maybe you could toss a couple more bones to the memory of one of the greatest writers of the 20th Century.

I don't think F. Scott was that great.

He lived for a short time on Summit Ave. - you can hear about him on a Summit Avenue tour. There is many book written about him in general but he is mentioned in many books about St. Paul.

Scotty Fitzgerald finished "This Side of Paradise" on Summit Avenue. He was a 23-year-old twerp, just out of Princeton. He became a literary wunderkind.

When we moved here, my wife wanted to live in St. Paul because of F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I used to think the same thing.

Then I tried it and had a blast.

The actual hunting in the cold kind of sucks, but all the fun people makes it what it is.
