This is strictly for non-political, fun conversation. It's alot easier to discuss things with someone when you realize you have some common interests, fishing, music etc. Besides, lets face it, politics gets old sometimes too :) Enjoy, Please, NO flaming, name calling etc. Have some fun!

FYI:

Rob was in NY on business (Which is part of the reason he hasn't been around), when he got called back home because his family was in a car accident (The other reason he hasn't been around).

Everyone is ok, but he's been dealing with that.

He just wanted me to pass on why he hasn't been around.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words I appreciate it. I had a brief moment and thought I'd stop in and say hi and give an update. My wife is doing better and home from the hospital. It was and has been a scary few weeks. She has a cast on her legs still and will for another few weeks. She starting to feel somewhat better the bruising and swelling she had is going down and the medication they had her on is being reduced which is a good sign. But she'll be laid up for some time so I'll have to wait to take her dancing:). It's been crazy trying to take care of her, the kids, run errands, keep the house clean and run my business etc.. Thank God for family and friends :) I'm just glad she's home. It puts things into perspective when you face losing someone who is your entire life. The kids are o.k but still a little afraid to go in the car but are getting better. It's amazing how resiliant kids are. It definately puts things in perspective though and makes you realize what matters.

I don't know when I'll be back to harassing you nice people but it will be a while. Thanks again to those who've sent well wishes and kind words, I really do appreciate it :) Thanks,

Rob

Keep up the good work being a great husband and father!

Hi all. I hope everyone's having a good holidays thus far. I just wanted to drop in and say hi and let you know I'm doing o.k.

My wife is doing better, her surgery's are all done. She's still in therapy for her leg but is starting to move around a bit which is a good sign. We've had a few setbacks but she's doing better daily. The kids are doing better too. They still talk about the accident and are still understandibly apprehensive about being in a car. My Wife's spirits are doing good which helps the healing process.

I can't thank you all enough for the kind words. I miss posting oddly enough ;) My Wife is probably tired of listening to me so it shouldn't be too much longer before I can start harrasing you good folks more often :)

I already got my Christmas presents tenfold. Being with my Wife and Kids is the best present anyone could ever ask for.

I'll be back soon it looks like, I haven't had time to read all the posts on the other threads and probably won't. It looks lively though with some of the usual love fest as well ;). Take care one and all. I'll talk soon.

Rob

Hey all :)

Well I'm back (a little anyways) The last 6 months have been full of ups and downs to say the least. Just when things got going again Last week the Docs told my Mom that her breast cancer was back after 4 years. She had a masectomy late last week and it looks like it didn't spread thank God, she still has to do chemo or radiation but it looks encouraging thus far.

I can't thank you all for the kind words, I really appreciated it. My wife is almost back to 100% and things are getting back to normal if there is such a thing. But I really thank you for your kindess, it's amazing what power a few little words have.

Life sure has been different but in some ways a bit better perhaps. I think after life smacks you that it's even sweeter when you get back up. So I am slowly but surely coming back and will try to start posting again, I even told JT that I had writers block. LOL imagine that, me at a loss for words, whod'a thunk. Anyways I'll be in and out sporadicaly so if you respond to a post of mine and I don't respond right away understand it's not you. Anyways I can't thank you all for the kind words. See you all soon, Rob

Luv2Fly

Thanks Dan, Torp, Ares, Muskwa and others :)

Got a bit of more good news today, the lab results confirmed the pet scan results and the cancer didn't spread! This is her 2nd battle with it so they still are deciding if they are going to do chemo and radiation or a combonation thereof. She already had her lifetime dose of radiation in the breast that was removed so they aren't sure if they can even after a masectomy. I tell you one thing after the last 6 months I have a whole newfound respect for people in the medical profession, God Bless them.

This is for Rick (and other trout afficianado's.)

Dennis Anderson: 10 must-have flies for stream trout opener

Low, clear water probably will make stream fishing tough in the southeast part of the state Saturday, when Minnesota's regular trout season opens.

Reports from anglers who recently have fished during the region's catch-and-release season say trout have been acting spooky, with stream levels and habitat reduced by the dry spring.

Still, some fish will be caught Saturday, not only by those who fish with bait and hardware, but by fly anglers who carry some or all of the 10 "must-have" flies whose descriptions follow.

Mike Alwin, owner of Bob Mitchell's Fly Shop in Lake Elmo, helped put this list together:

• Woolly Bugger: A variation on the woolly worm, this fly usually is fished in pocket water or pools. Typically not the first fly out of the box, the woolly bugger is instead often fished in desperation. Aggressive takes of this fly are common, not just by trout but by other species, including smallmouth bass. Try a size 6.

For the rest of the must have list.

Rick Lundstrom

That's a pretty common list of flies. I tie variations on nearly all of them but the Skip Wet. Never heard of it until today. Anderson didn't need to mention that it was invented by a classical musician. That reinforces stereotypes about fly fishing.

He's right about the low stream conditions. I've been fishing in Wisconsin the last couple weeks. Lots of bug activity on the water, but the fish are easily spooked. Last time out, I could only catch them in the pools with streamers, which isn't as much fun.

I would have added another caddisfly pattern or two. They hit the water like clockwork in the mid afternoon, and they'll lay eggs for a couple hours. That'll run through the end of May. Trout hit those hard.

I've really been meaning to try my hand at trout fishing. Every year I tell my self I'm going to do it.
