Oh shoot. Looks like we've lost KT. Maybe it's a sign.

She'll be bock. And I'm sure will want to share with you all about her mom and the PC. G'Oldie... might be something you could do. You've so much to give... Make sure you send me postcards!

I think if you're interested in Peace Corps work, find the local folks and call them. Ask the questions you have and think about it. Nothing ventured. Nothing gained.

I sure would Green! Maybe I should start small and drive for Meals On Wheels first or something before I sign up for a long stint somewhere.

That is so totally funny! I thought I was the only one who was haunted ant thwarted by not keeping their elbows scrubbed and oiled.
I was raised to believe it was a stigma of those "lesser People"
One day, I think I was 17, I said to my mother, who had just commented on elbows- What if that person is a charcoal, or black oil artist? What if that person is a newspaper publisher- what if that person is the wife of a coal miner?
Grr- Sometimes I have dirty elbows- and the man I love has poor grammar, and even worse spelling.....
BUT!!!!!
we ALLL have our challenges, our demons, our hills- dALES....
Our clues, our failures- our destructions, and our elations..........
 And now I rant
I love these people I've met by happenstance.

Actually, G'Oldie... If *me*... I'd start out talking to KT's mom. And then take Ter's advice. I don't know. Just me. I'd like the 'comfort' thing of like, kind'a, talking to a 'friend' first.

Meals on Wheels would love the help, OT! They are always looking for drivers/deliverers. And the people you deliver to are soo appreciative of a kind face with a good meal in tow.

It's just a pipe dream anyway I'm sure. I have lots of them. Trips I want to take to places I've never been.

(handing my Dove soapbox to KT...)

Rant away. Feels good, huh? And I never heard about dirty elbows while growing up so you guys are WAY ahead o'me!

But then... It was the dirt behind my knees... And the 'necklace' I would have that drove my Mom and my grandmother, Mom's mom, NUTZ! :D

I know Terry. I really should do something like that. My mom did that for a while when she still drove and loved it.

I have discolored elbows that look dirty but aren't. All the lotion, oil, scrubbing does nothing for 'em but the scrubbing makes them sore. I've always blamed that on my dad who had the same thing.

I hated the chapped legs we would get from wearing those stupid boots with the furry tops! The fur would get wet, and of course we didn't wear slacks, so your legs got chapped in a ring around your leg.

OT- My mother had nothing but "life experience"
I do not think you can request a region.....
she wantes Belize- They send her to Lesotho-
She was there in the middle of an intense political war-
She thought she was teaching women & girls how to better their lives...
She found out she was teaching them how to sew so they could work for the plants in South Africa- .......making clothes for "The Gap" & "Old Navy"
and......earn 12 cents a day..........

OT - Check out the Peace Corps. Nothing happens that you don't want to have happen - and it will take care of the curiosity if nothing else. And who knows?!? Maybe you'll end up doing a couple years in a foreign land and learn all sorts of neat stuff!

She was stabbed, and her friend, too. While on leave.
She wants to go back to finish what she started.....

Brian wrote today that his newer volunteer at his site - the one that replaced Chicken Bill - is female and therefore not allowed to walk anywhere alone because of several rapes that occurred in the past year. So he walks with her and helps her vaccinate animals.

Of course that's while he's not out planting trees, harvesting seeds to start more trees or working on soil conservation.

Each day she wishes to go to Belize and help them re- build.-
The Peace Corps cannot lend favor to enlistees wishes.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would do it in aheartbeat, if Dan could go with me.

I cannot say to go- I will not say to not go.
I will say that if a life-changing experience is what you need
If you really feel you can impact ONE soul.
Do this, then.

Very interesting conversation the last couple of days!! Cooler stuff learning about some of your family history and such.

My Mom lives in Ely- she way rocks! Tiny old woman, heart of gold, balls of steel...

We might be related KT as you've just described my G-ma who lives in Ely too. I was at a hotel all weekend celebrating my birthday early and ran into a couple from Ely who seen me in the Echo in front of the Ice Palace. They were on their way to St. Michael's down south. Lucky bastards! ;-)

Ok all you computer wizzes! Iv'e got a problem! I'm trying to do a defrag on my puter, it keeps getting to about 2 or 3 percent and then goes back to 0, is that normal?? I havn't done one in quite a while so I knew it would take a while but geez! Iv'e had it running since yesterday morning!

    Mon, 03/08/2004 - 5:09 AM Permalink
    Terry

LL - You need to turn off everything that is running in the background....screensavers, virus scanners (disconnect from the internet), anything that auto runs in the background and then do the defrag. It's starting over and over because something is changing and making it stop.

I was digging around in my mother's desk yesterday and found my paternal Grear Grandfather's obituary. He was born In County Kelkenny, Ireland and gives his date of birth (1818) and the year he sailed for America, the year he married and where he first settled. Now that's a lot of information!

I also ran across a reciept for some work that my parents had done on this old house in 1931. It's pretty interesting:

    Dear Sir:

I propose to furnish labor and materials as follows on your house:
Shingle garage roof same color as house
Build new steps in front of porch
Build new steps, place railing and repair back porch
    Take down outside rear vestabule
Repair balcony railing in rear of second floor
Repair railing on front porch and repair porch on south side where post and floor is separated from original position
Take out two sets of colonades and put on new casings and make floor moldings fit up to new casings
Build in one kitchen cabinet four doors wide, three doors at bottom part of cabinet and flour bin.
Build partition in back vestibule and p laster same so that surface will be smooth for painting.
Fix doors in house so they will open and close easily.
THE ABOVE FOR THE SUM OF $167!
