Any early guesses on where the medallion is hidden?

It hasn't been at Phalen Park since 1983. And it hasn't been at Kellogg Park since 1985. Those are two large St. Paul parks that are at the top of my list.

Any thoughts on what it'll be hidden in? Last year it was in a Curad box, in a Skoal tin in 1996 (how un-P.C.!). I think it'll be in something related to our new hockey team, maybe in a plastic puck you can open up. Either that or in an Altoids tin.

See you out there!

Well another year and another hunt. One wish has already come true during the Super Bowl, I hope the second will come true in the following days. I will see you all out there!

Best of Luck!

Hey, how about Newell Park. It has the woods, and a lake across the street. And I've heard a lot of people get high there. By the way, the lake across the street is in the county compost heap. Does that count as a park, because there are at least three or four trees which technically could make them a woods. I'll be there digging.

Don't waste time digging in the wrong place! I see the park from where I sit. Look for me at the park and in the late night lines. I'll have my book "St.Paul Parks- A Treasure Hunter's Guide" available to assist you in your quest.

Hey Mr. Know it All,

Do you really think that they would pick the same park (Battle Creek 95), (Cherokee Park 92), (Highland Park 94).

Our instincts are Phalen Park, Mounds Park, or Kellogg Park is a good possibililty.

It's good to see some familiar names from last year, particularly "Mr. Know it All." I'm stuck in Milwaukee again this year so I'll have to use my mental map of the park system and extensive list of past hunt information to be of any use. Mounds and Cherokee are the highest grounds I can think of. I'm prone to Cherokee for the fact that the High Bridge is nearby. But I'm also stuck on the use of the word "hidden" in the 2nd clue. Historically, it's the little words that you take for granted that are most important, so I'm thinking Hidden Falls is a possibility. And I wouldn't try to figure out how long it's been since it was at a given park. Last year's Como Park hiding place threw out all of our pattern-searching efforts. Good luck to all!

I say the medallion will be found in 8 clues, no mas! This year, its a thinking diggers game.

Question for you experienced diggers: When do you think the Medallion was hidden? We didn't have much snow until recently...So was it hidden with little snow in mind three weeks ago or was it hidden this past Saturday?

Mon, 01/26/1998 - 4:41 PM Permalink

PS -- I went and dug all around the Frog pond at Como. You know, just for the hell of it. I knew it wouldn't be there, but I figured somebody had to do it sooner or later.

The frog pond uh? well if it's the treasure ye seek

than come follow me and catch a peek. Arrrgh!

When looking for the medalion please pay tribute to the Gods,

There was a list at winter-carnival.com but because of confusion when you try to access the medalion there it sends you hear. But im trying to find a different one too. The highest elevation in the city is at Hill-Crest Golf Course and its no't there,

so Cherokee park hunters beware!

HAS ANYONE BEEN ABLE TO ACCESS THE CLUES ON THE CARNIVAL PAGE? WANT TO SAVE TRIP TO DOWNTOWN !!

Mon, 01/26/1998 - 8:30 PM Permalink
B.J. Mack

Is there anything specific in these first two clues that's sending people to Phalen...or are you just headed there on a gut feeling, because it hasn't been there since '83?

The "hidden" in today's clue has got me thinking about Hidden Falls. Of course, it was just there in '93 (in the diaper).

Mon, 01/26/1998 - 8:57 PM Permalink
wrightwinger

I dont know about anyone else but I havent been able to get anything about the medalion from the winter carnival page since last Friday. I personally dont see anything linking the medalion to Phalen, but its always where people want to go look, for no reason other than it hasnt been there since 83', and I think the "hidden goods" line is too obvious for hidden falls. I beleave its a park near downtown on one of the bluffs, but I think that every year, it costed me many a tear for the last nine year. (in reference to not ever finding it)

Looks like I'm screwed for treasure hunting this year, no car for

now. I have no choice but to try and help those posting find it.

Here we go. Cross Off Highland, Como, Harriet Island, Battle Creek.

It was in Cherokee Park back in 1992, they've never been that close

together and that includes this year. Remember, if thereis no scenery it is OUT! Not necessarily does the whole park have to be on high ground, possibly just a part of it (maybe where the treasure is). So Far, with not much thinking - in Mounds Park seems like a favorite, if they stay with the recent trend of hiding in big parks, that might rule out a park like Linwood Park, but ya never know for. Clue 2 mentions water, remember could be any kind of water, river, lake, water utility building, watertower, who knows, don't be closed minded about that. Woods more than likely means actual "woods", but count on that. Continue Later, Maybe it will finally be in Phalen again.

okay ready all you computer hunters. should I make it in clue form or just tell you how to find the clues? 1 get to pioneer planet front page.

2. go towards bottom of page it has a picture of the button on it stating Everything you wanted to know about the medallion. 3. click on to the icon. Yea you have solved the clues. See you all out there. Besides it's not so cold out to go downtown and get the paper at 11:00. See you when it gets busy and remember the paper cost 35 cents now.

I want the clues to mean more than they do (for example: "Rosebud" = a street named Wells or Kane; the word "hidden" = Hidden Falls) but I think all we're getting beyond the normal park and water clues is that the medallion is at the top of a sledding hill. Maybe "Rosebud" could double for a summertime flowerbed, but I doubt they'd lead the "diggers" to something they could destroy. A high-ground park like Cherokee or Mounds is starting to lose luster with the 3rd clue. Phalen may be worth a snoop simply because it's been so long since they put it there.

I would have to agree with Greg Sax about the difficulty of the

clues, but on the other hand you don't see me with the medallion.

I'm leaning toward Highland Park for a couple of reasons that I will

defulge to any interested. (just write)

I was planning on checking tommorrow night but todays clue seems to

point me in the same direction I was going on clue two, so I will be

seeing you all tonight.

It doesn't seem the same when it's above zero but I'll bear it.

Mr. Know It All

Woops! I was in a coma yesterday!!!!!!! I completely mentally blocked out hidden falls, another high place.........Hey Mr. Sax how the hell are ya! Good to have you back Gregie!!!!!!!!! This clue (#3) is telling you that it is attached to a rosebud (flower maybe, some type of a container with that word on it " maybe". Clue (#2) In the neighborhood are water and woods. Could be a golf course, ( woods, the club type) water (the hazard type). Just giving you something to chew on while i'm tied down to my desk. Yes, kids like to zoom

(sliding). ( Highland Park is an early guess.)

Sledding at Phalen? Maybe from a rope behind your dad's car. Is that overlook area in Dayton's Bluff considered a park? Little kids will hate us if we dig up all their hills.
