Maybe since "water's edge" doesn't figure in, yet as the water's "quite frozen at the park" it means that there are hockey rinks there, but no lake or river?

After reading this clue, the first thought that ran across my mind was that the medallion might be inside something like an abandoned bird nest, Rabbit hole, snake hole, or perhaps a bee hive ----something of this kind
