Haven't completely slogged yet tonight, just getting back from crying in my beer at GW, but wanted to share a few thoughts...

Overall this year was a really great hunt. You can hardly ask for better, and that's what I see reflected in the comments in this thread. True, the park itself was a bit disheartening to many of us (and NOT AT ALL because of it's reputation), but more due to the fact that it is so vast that until last night's clue I think most of us felt the odds were just against us.

But other than that, the clues were pretty good, we were pretty much all in Crosby quite early on (except for the perenial few who are convinced it is moved from BC every year), and we had a really good time. The thing I'll never forget about this year is that it is the first year that people started asking what my real name was, and started addressing me by it when face to face more than they adressed me by my screen name (and other cooler crew as well). Not that I mind being addressed as a Stallion, actually I'm quite used to it, ... but it signaled to me a change in this group that I think has been going on for a few years now. And I like it. We're growing up as a group and I think that's good. It does involve some growing pains, you can't get around that. And we've felt that as much this year as I think we have the past two or three years. Hopefully that will be felt less and less as this family learns how to live together and live with others in this crazy world of medallion hunting.

I didn't mean to go on like this. Suffice to say: good hunt, good year, we didnt' get it but there's always next year. At GW tonight I talked to a few people who agree that it's getting silly that this crew hasn't found the puck yet. We're a hundred and a half or more strong, and that ain't bad. Next year I propose we really channel our energy and strength together and really make a run for it. The camo crue was shown in the movie as being know as being able to move more snow than anyone else. They're what, half a dozen or more strong and mostly enjoy standing with their shovels and telling stories about being close to it every year? We can out do that. We can move more snow in one afternoon with our combined efforts than they ever have in their whole existance. If only we had a little organization and leadership. NOT that this should be a competition between us and them. But because I think this little family deserves the pride of owning the fucking puck for a year.
OK, that's enough for one night. There's a warm bed waiting for me with a beautiful Swedish woman who's not wearing much clothing right now and whom my instinct is telling me feels just a little neglected this past week. And I don't have to wake up early to go hunting tomorrow.
See you all at the re-hash...

Done slogging as well, doubt I can add much new insights or anything to this years hunt. Sorta bittersweet now that it's over, I'm glad it's been found and done with, just bummed I wasn't the one that found it. I'm glad I did a fair amount of digging today though, and would like to think I was at least close, but seems I was a bit further off than I thought. Still, I broke in a new rake, spent at least twice as much time out physically hunting this year, and managed to be in the park when I heard the sheriff patrol hit the siren and said it was found.

It was a good hunt this year, hoping next year will be all the better, and if I don't find it, I'd like to be next to the person that does, preferably a cooler crew member. In the meanwhile, After the rehash bash, I'm in pre-medallion season training again, there's mockhunts to be done, and also the local city run medallion hunts, don't forget those, as they tend to be less crowded, the clues are fairly straight forward, and while the prizes aren't as great, the sense of accomplishment is still there. And of course there's geocaching and letterboxing for those so inclined, not to mention I'll be working on some parks information for next year that should prove useful, stay tuned folks, there's tons of prep work here for next year.

And to the others just in for the hunt, have a great year!

    Hey all -

Well I just want to say that in the end - Ya'll totally rock, and although I know it would be nice to be out whooping it up today saying * looky look - a cooler head found it* But as coolerheads we found so much more - look at this place - look at what the CC has!  Friends (Family) - not to mention something that brings the uncommon together.

I am still amazed at everything Zephy has done from so many miles away - this may not be the hunt that the CC got Crosby - but how many hunts in the past has one of the members of the CC won the cat show with a cardboard cat?  Or one individual of the CC been knighted by both sides? Kissed by the Kates - and posed not only with the royality but stood ontop of an ice sculpture with the artist AND hung out and made snow angels in Como? Oh yeah - and the lucky SOB got his photo taken with Last years winner and was a guest bartender down at the Rockin Lobster - I mean H E L L O - can you all say Celebrity?  Not to mention the words from the PP and WCCO.

I suppose it boils down to if you want to take two bites of the Cherry or just one -but each in everyone of you should be proud...regardless of who found the puck.

now we have what? about 50 weeks to get ready for next year?  Ok - what over the top thing can we plan for that?

    Big G

Wow, okay now I have to follow these huge giant emotional posts with one of my own. Or maybe not...we'll see how it goes since it's 2:30 am and I just had to slog all the "it was found" stuff that I missed while taking a shower getting ready for my somewhat disappointing artist's reception at the Landmark Center.

My first thought...whoever wrote out that big check has ATROCIOUS handwritting. I would make them rewrite it in a more presentable manner. Thought immediately right after that...jesus, can't anyone just spend the damn $5 and register their stinkin button????

My third thought...the clues were good, but vague. I understand they have to be for such a huge park, but to lead us back and forth for 9 clues and then whomp us over the head with damn near the exact location on 10 instead of gradually narrowing it down just wears us out and leaves us more vulnerable to someone who hasn't been trudging and digging and dragging sticks into cool little piles for 9 previous days to find it. I know the finders have been previous hunters and that's cool. But were they out there on this hunt as much as us? I'm not so sure. I feel bad for them that they get that crappily (it's a word...I found in the Oxford English Dictionary) written check, but then that's what you get for not registering your button. Keep that in mind Map Guy...they'll probably spell your name and all the words on the check wrong just to teach you some lessons...one....spellcheck is a beautiful instrument and should be used whenever possible...and two...REGISTER YOUR DAMN BUTTON! :) Suggestions: I would like to see the lollipop trees on their sides in the future to mark knocked down trees. I would also like you to add glitter to the ones that are "magical". Thank you.

To comment on Geoff's post...and if you don't know who Geoff is, that's the point. I also like that people are finding out who we all really are. I, for one, don't mind being called G because it relates to my name and I would prefer people call me that than slaughtering the pronunciation of it, plus it's easy to remember, but for me, I don't really want to be calling people "pay me" and "tim". I mean what is with that guy, he just never tells anyone what his real name is even if you ask.

To comment on Green's post...Jared is a nice kid, he's been hanging out with my brother since they were little. I hope both of them get into the hunt more. It's cool what a small world we live in. And yes, we were too damn close. Note to self: pick up every damn log in the park and turn it over, not just the ones where you think it might be. Note to Lisa and self: there's no such thing as "too close to the (insert whatever the landmark is here)" in the future.

To comment on OTiS's post...I really liked your cool digging hat that Stephanie brought to the pity party. It's a shame you won't be able to break it in. I hope we can organize something wearable for next year that DOESN'T include thongs, pasties or any other stripper clothing. I am strongly suggesting "cooler chick" wear...like the "whatever stupid adjective you want to put here" chick clothes that have a little fuzzy chicken on them. A fuzzy chick with a shovel that says "cooler chick" under it. Wow, that was a great idea for it being 3:00 AM.

Okay, I guess the post went way south of being emotional and I'm just being retarded. I had a blast this year even thought I spent WAAAYYYYYYYYYYY too much money on lunch and dinner and drinks. But it was worth it to spend time with some freaking awesome people. We rule. I will bring business cards to the RHB so you can check out my art fair schedule on my website and hopefully some of you will drop by one of the fairs and visit me so I'm not totally disconnected from the threads and everyone all year. I would LOVE to geocache but the art fairs take up all most all of my summer weekends. I will attend the mock hunt parties, but can't promise to actually hunt. Again, life and the pursuit of money tends to interfere annoyingly.

ClueMaster, THX and other camera owners!!!! I would love to put together a cooler crew collage and need pictures. Hopefully you've all been taking pictures in the highest resolution setting on your digital cameras. If not, I will kick your ass and then take your pictures anyway because something is better than nothing. :) I would've taken pictures myself but my camera has to be carried around in a bag and doesn't fit in my pocket so as much as I love my camera, it's inconvenient for casual picture taking.

As we say every year....NEXT YEAR WE WILL FIND IT!!!!!!! NO! REALLY! :)

I hate to get all deep and emotional, (sometimes anyways), but I figured I'd toss in my thoughts and such, right here, since everyone else seems to be doing the same...

Personally, I think this hunt was way good.... for a few reasons.

Where it should have been real crappy, considering it all started out for me, on a negative note with "you-know-who" stopping by and starting things that didnt need to be started in the first place... and then seeing the support from everyone here, I think it brought me closer to the group, than I have been, really.... it actually made me happy, that I could show up, and be "myself" and not an amped up personality/charachter, and whatnot, like ive been known as in the past......(well.. I can still be amped up.... but ya'll know what I look like now)

People have asked me before what the "crew" is.... and Ive usually had one answer... "its basically a big ass, dysfunctional family"..... which for the most part, is the truth, in a fun way....

also... not long before the beginning of this years festivities, I met someone that, Ive grown real close to, in part, due to all of this crazyness that we go through every year.... and hopefully that relationship, will continue to blossom into something even more colorful,  and more wonderful than it already has, and last for.... well... i dunno... a long, long, long, long, long, long time....(too many longs? I dont think so.)

I really need some sleep now..... and feel like Im not saying enough about everything.... but im pretty sure you all get the point, of what im saying....

hopefully those of ya'll that read this, who are leaving us now, for the year, realize that this "family" exists for more than just 2 weeks a year....

good night... see you all at the re-hash

That was sweet, Nick. And thank you for trusting us enough to let your feelings show like that. You're way ahead of the game to be able to do that, some live their lives all the way through without sharing things like that with anyone. This was a special hunt for me, too, for all the reasons you already know. I'm stunned that this 'community' can sustain all of us, and all our inner lives.
But that's what we do, huh?

I had a great time this year, got out digging alot more this year than in years past, mostly cuz I didn't want to miss out on all the fun with the heads at GW :) Thank God I have a very understanding husband that sees how much I really love this group and is willing to let me pack up and head out at any time of the night, I cant wait till we don't have to worry about sitters anymore and he can fully enjoy it with me :) he missed out on so much that I had to skip the pitty party and let him go, I hope he had fun :) Nick, It's nice to see you out without that make up, I feel like I know you now and your not just a guy that shows up for 2 minutes and dissapears :) until next year.......

I don't have the time right now to slog 2 days worth of posts.....I'm going 2...just not right now...

I wanted to make this post b4 people started to go back to their "normal" lives....every year people that read and post in the cooler disappear until next year. Its OK.

But I would highly encourage all members of the cooler (or lurkers) to stick around....at least stop in and check if we are doing a mock hunt...........

thanks to all members of the cooler for making it what it is!!!!!

    coolerheads will prevail....

    *note to self...don't overthink....

    gotta run to work

I had so much fun getting to know many more of you than I did last year. I did a lot more digging and I socialized with many of you and found some great new friends. I look forward to seeing you all at the Rehash. I would like to see you all during the other 50 weeks of the year. I know that everyone makes great scheduling sacrifices in their lives to have flexibility for the hunt. As I was putting a dent in the profit margins of the Great Moon Buffet last night with some fellow coolerheads it was mentioned about trying to have a social gathering once every other month so that we can forge even greater bonds of friendship. We could do dinner, drinks or Strip Sorry for all I care. I think that you are a great group and so perhaps we can have more of a discussion about getting together during the off season at the rehash. To all the new friends I made I always put a great value on friendship. So, to Pilots, KT, AW, Reg, Slim, Lilman, Outta, MrMN, Me2, CM and the best hunting partner(and wife) SnowJester, thanks for the memories!

Just read Joe's article. I agree with him for clue #3. And I say- WTF?
    Airport- schmairport. PPPPPPPPppppp.
    Looking forward to the RHB.
Did anyone meet the finders & invite them?
The woman hung by the fire w/ her Granddaughter a few times, and Dan saw her working on the clues 3 different days back by the upper pond. One day, he asked her "Haven't you found it yet?", and the next day she went up to him & asked the same thing, and told him that his wife (me) gave her a cup of coffee at the fire.
So we know she was an avid hunter. That's cooler.
