Imagine this Park Digger, "A rec center in the spot, but a golf course is not..." Realistically what were they going to say? If they didn't say it was in a park, people

might start looking under highways again and digging up all kinds of public property. I think they were just caught in a quandry and decided to use the word "park".

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:18 AM Permalink
Terry

And it's more park-like than many rec centers.

It was the absence of the park type clues that had me pretty sure that the Capitol Mall was a bit of public land to search through.

There you have it, Ter! No say like that cuz they *ain't* there!!!

I've this like... fantasy... You know???

The Cooler Crew numbers have like increased to the HUNDREDS... And we noodle the correct park, you know???

And we get together, en masse, and hit the park... One big HUGE long line!!! Like folks combing the woods/fields for... ah... well, you know... A body??? (ISH!)

And we line up, like in this case on Ruth... And off we start - from Wilson to Conway, one big huge mawing, snow eating line!!! And slowly progress to the eastern

side o'the park!

And we will have been VICTORIOUS!!!!

Fantasizing is fun!!!

If you think its not at Conway, how would you explain Clue #10?

Park Digger

That's a good point Allison. I was maybe being too literal with the word park. Who knows?

Eagle Eye: Am I planning to come to the 2nd annual re-hash bash this Sunday? Perhaps it would be better if I remained the mystery man. In all sincerity, I would like

to meet you commiserating coolerites, but I have a scouting event to go to on Sunday. Once again, good luck to me tomorrow....

I've thought it would be a good idea to get a whole bunch of people with long sticks and go through the park like they go through an avalanche looking for victims. In

fact, that's been my most common method so far, so if you see/saw a guy out there poking holes with a cane, that's me. And if you see my holes, you know where

I've been.

I do! DON'T WRECK ANYTHING AND DON'T BE STUPID OR YOU'LL PAY!!!!!!!!!!

Unless someone lucks out it won't be found until wed late or thurs early!!!!

At this rehash, do people wear nametags with their cooler names, or do you just have to guess?

Hi everyone. I just got home from Conway.

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:27 AM Permalink

I think we did do nametags last year...but guessing first is fun! I think I have some name tags here.

For you old farts then, have you checked under the Big W?

Hey Seth,,, what's goin' on at Conway?

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:29 AM Permalink
Terry

The big W. I saw some discussion about that earlier...yesterday maybe? What is that idea about?

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:29 AM Permalink
Sethmon

What's a re-hash bash?

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:30 AM Permalink
Terry

Sethmon - that's a pot-luck picnic of sorts where we can meet face to face and rehash these clues that become a part of our lives for 12 days each year. This year it

will be on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 11:30. Can you come join us?

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:32 AM Permalink
Sethmon

There were probably about 400 people when I got there at 12. Then 150 now. Unreal how dug up it is. They just need to get specific with the remaining clues.

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:33 AM Permalink
green

Did name tags last year. But I've lost my source (don't work there any more... Maybee SueBee can do the name tags...).

Mine was just a big glump o'green!!!

Usually you don't gotta guess as folks are going up to everybuddy saying, "Hi! I'm Allison Wonderland. Who are you?" And yapping and laughing.

I'm telling you Al, ittiz the greatest time. Last year we were there from 11:30 until about 5:00. Folks toin' and froin' as they wanted, time allowed.

And the stories!!! And having it in the park where it was found, just drew us closer.

In a way, ittiz like a wake for The PP Medallion Hunt - at least for the current year...

And know what else! We were off noodling THIS year as the day wound down!!! YES!!! Like, "Otay. We've buried 1998. Now... Where do YOU think it will

bee in 1999????"

Thass how we got Phalen...

The discussion yesterday was probably me again. Its just a joke referring to the movie "Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World where a treasure is hidden under a big

W. I saw three trees by the rec center connected at the base and it made me think of that movie.

Do you all really think it is still at Conway? I mean shit, we were out there for about 4 hours tonight before and after the clue came out and there were about 200

people out there. The park is not that big. With all the digging that has been done out there, don't you think it would have been found already? I still believe that it is

there though cause all the clues point to there.

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:34 AM Permalink
Sethmon

Terry, where does the re-hash bash take place?

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:35 AM Permalink

Cute! It is a mad, mad, mad, mad world out there. That's actually very clever! A true noodling coolerism.

Say Green, were you away from here for a while, just lurking, or just not on at the same time I was?

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:36 AM Permalink

Stone, ittiz Conway.

But think about this: I've noticed that there has been TONS of indiscriminate digging. Meaning: snow has been tossed into HUGE piles and nothing was dug up

under the pile first.

Said anudder way, there's many, MANY a HUGE pile o'snow sitting on virgin snow.

Get my drift???

(Did I *really* type that?????)

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:37 AM Permalink
Terry

Sethmon - We would like to have it at the park that ittiz found...but we are trying to work out something for this year because Conway does not have picnic facilities

and their indoor space isn't large enough. Early thoughts are to have it at Battle Creek in that picnic area. We'll have it pegged down and posted here before Sunday.

It can't be anywhere but Conway, but where is it? I still think Clue#4 and its reference to being an iconoclast is our brightest hope at the moment. I think it may be

trying to tell us that the medallion is hidden in some new, very unusual way and thus no one has found it yet. I noticed a lot of people looking up in the trees which I

thought was a good idea, but it may be somewhere even stranger yet.

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:39 AM Permalink
Sethmon

If it's wrapped in white it wouldn't supprise me if someone dug it up, missed it, and burried it again. There is quite a bit left undug yet.

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:39 AM Permalink
green

And I got my own special Joe! on that last post! Maybee The Med's mine????

Crap! Next thing you'll know I'll bee reading pig entrails!!!

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 2:39 AM Permalink

We have also heard that the medallion is often tossed out of it's original hiding place without being found till the area is gone over again. I don't know if that's

accurate though. I do know it's happened a time or two.

Just got back from Conway with my son. (Oops...was it past curfew? Please don't snitch.) Conway's much bigger than I had imagined. I'm having a real hard time

with the glowing translucent peak. The one people point to is made of transparent glass. The Standard gas station sign is glowing and translucent, but is it a peak?

The translucent windows in the rec center are not exactly at the peak of the building, and they were only a few barely "glowing" at one end. The other big unknown is

those cryptic numbers "9, 5, and somewhere a 4." I am doubting that they have nothing to do with the location, but perhaps are inscribed on the container that holds

the precious medallion. However, one fellow did find a house with the number 495 that fronts the park.

Hundreds of people at Conway, but oh so much snow to scoop, sift and resift. This could take until June unless the Pioneer Press gets it act together and starts to

get a bit more specific. Aren't the clues lacking in that respect compared to previous years? Has the medallion ever NOT been found?

Good luck to me tomorrow....

I actually suspect it went down during the first big snowstorm in January. The wind would blow any footprints outta the snow right away.

Ohh! Yes Virgin snoooowwwwww. That a good way to put it.

If my interpretations of the clues are right, I think they're using the softball fields as a red herring. I think Clue #3 has nothing to do with sports, though it was made to

sound that way, and Clue #9 makes you think of the softball fields, even if its only subconsciously. My guess right now is that its not on the fields, though perhaps

you can see the fields from the hiding place. Anyone agree or disagree?

Fellow hunters - I'm calling it a night. Might as well get horizontal. Inks will be up at 5 wanting to get out there...and then I'll have trouble getting vertical.

Sweet Cooler Dreams everyone! May coolerheads prevail!

A friend of mine keeps insisting that there's some secret reference to the hiding place in one of the clues, and we must have overlooked it. I think there isn't and it is

exactly as narrowed down as they would like it to be at this point, considering Conway's size. Personally, I feel we're at about the same point as we were last year

after Clue #10 in terms of area.
