1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

FOOLED YA

I was out there for four hours last night watching the insanity develop! There is no need to wreck anything or to dig in somebodys yard.

Use common sense and good judgement when hunting for the medallion!

Places it is not!!!!!!!!!!

Inside a telephone wire box,. high up in a tree,. inside my pants,. in the middle of the hockey rink you freaking morons,. inside a telephone pole,. 3' below ground

level near the playground equipment you diggers from hell!!!!!!!! in the toilet of the playground,. inside the library you literary fools,. attached to a moving car,. on top

of a mtc bus,. in a girls bra..........when she's wearing it you perverts!!!!!!! on top of the water tower you mountain climbing total freaking,. idiot!!!!!!! under the

asphalt bike path!!!!!!! inside the air vent at the rec center,. on the sliding hill (it's not on or near the sliding hill you clueless bastards),. in a bird house in a back yard,.

and for alot of you..... for your information it's not up your own ass so why don't you pull your heads out of there!!!!!!!!

The exact spot will never be pinpointed because of the $ amount and numbers of people. It will be by sheer luck and fate for whoever finds it!!!!! To the finder (if it's

not me)please call me for travel arrangements to Mexico!! I have friends there and can show you a great time. They're locals and can stretch your stay and save you

mucho pesos!!!!!!!!

Mrs. Banner,

That thought bothers me too, (someone having found it already) I think that they've had problems with that in the past, which is why the Pioneer Press says in the

rules very specifically that the person who finds the medallion must IMMEDIATELY return it to qualify for the initial $5,000.

Nathan, we were primarily in the western half of the park. haven't ruled out the eastern half yet. i don't think we will actually dig anymore until we have the next clue. i

don't think the clues we already have are going to tell us anything new.

had my camera there last night; hope they turn out so someday we can laugh at this because i am sure those execs at the mother ship are slapping their

knees all day long

Thanks for your comment. It's ironic that it was you who answered me, because I sent you an email about 15 minutes ago...

Does anyone know if there is a number you can call to find out if the medallion has been found? They don't change the time status on the website very often.

The rules state that if you don't turn the medallion in as soon as it is found (or reasonalbe amount of time) you forfeit your prize. I don't know how they know if its

been found - maybe there is a tracking device inside it!

Pie, you are hilarious. Thanks for the venting - that was great! And all of it without any bad words. Good job.

So, who else thinks like Tracy, that it's at Como? I must admit that it sounds tempting.

Each clue fits into Conway park and ONLY Conway park. It will be interesting to see how many more clues it takes to identify the precise location of the treasure.

Conway is pretty well dug up from what I can tell, but if it's not found by 6:00pm, I'll be there tonight! ....along with about 10,000 other people...

has anyone thought that the pp are writing these clues while listening to everyone here? Remember people were talking Newell Park and then that night's clue

mentioned ..as well as the new... Conway has been a much talked about park and then last nights clue seems perfect - what if como is the name they mean? Could

they be throwing us on purpose?????

at one point i was thinking that the 9, 5, 4 referred to a group of right angles (like in a building, playground equipment) but now i am convinced it refers to I94 and 55

so i think i am just going to have let that one go!

does anyone know how far in advance they hide the medallion?

I think that based on clue 10 it's not Como, unless you can think of a singer with a FIRST NAME of Como. Read the clue, it says something about having the same

name, one as the first and the other as the last.

any ideas on what todays clue is hinting at?

Tue, 02/02/1999 - 11:02 AM Permalink

Why would "MOM" throw us off on purpose - you think they want BAD press!

Although, I must say that the WWII torpedo at Como would definitely be a 'blast from the past' and I don't know what Conway has to support that one.

Has anyone SERIOUSLY given up on Conway? As in, when you get the clue tonight you will abandon Conway and go elsewhere?

I heard they hide it several weeks before hand. I am trying to work on this thing over the net from Chicago (former St. Paul Resident) they need more detailed maps

I can click on! Talk about a handicap.

I just called and so far, the medallion has not been found. I believe the person who does the actual hiding of the medallion goes out to check on it occasionally to

insure that someone hasn't found it and waits a while to turn it in. Also, the rules ask you to turn it in when you find it - if you don't and you start to mess with peoples

minds, they (PP) have the right to give the money to charity.

don't give up on Conway. Clue 10 is right on. Conway Twitty is the singer and Tim Conway is the funny man.

CA, we heard from a local while we were at Conway last night that the park building (not the library) isnew and they blew up the old one; i.e., blast from the past.

PEOPLE!

Remember not to tear the clues up too much - check past clues and their explanations to see that some lines are for rhyming purposes only! Figuring out which lines

are the rhyming lines and which ones are the *clues* will help you greatly!

blast from the past at Conway can refer to Ruth St. (i.e. Babe Ruth, he certainly hit alot of blasts and this year he was iconoclasted by Mark McGwire and Sammy

Sosa both of whom broke his idolic record

When it says to study the past, it is referring to the past medallion hunts - it has never been hidden in Conway before - be an "Iconoclast", ie. a rebel, a radical, a

non-conformist - something that's never been done before???? A NEW PARK!!! The Famous person is Babe Ruth - "Many a Tome" is Ruth, from the Bible,

remember a tome is a grouping of small books - Ruth can be found in many places in the old testament. It ALL makes sense - Conway or no way! Now Get out

there and dig before it's too late!!!

here's the answer to clue #10: the words "2 men share it, one and the same, a crooner goes 1st and a funny man last" One and the same mean they share 1 name in

common (not both first and last names) the crooner is Conway Twitty and the funny man is Tim Conway- get it?
