Flash Intro-"Geocaching"
6 minute Movie-"Searching for a cache"
Basic Info
- Buy or borrow a Global Positioning System receiver. A basic unit is the Garmin eTrex GPS or Magellan GPS 315. Both cost about $100 and can be found at stores such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy or online at http://www.amazon.com
- Find a cache near you at <http://www.geocaching.com> Enter a ZIP code and the site will list nearby caches. Select a cache, such as "Geocache by Ray" or "Arboretum One" and click on its "details" button. Write down the cache's coordinates and print out the description. Use the online mapping site link at the bottom of the page to get driving directions to the location.
- While still at home, enter into your GPS receiver the coordinates of the cache as they are listed on the Web site. Coordinates -- such as N 39 degrees 24.661; W degrees 094 14.86 -- describe the latitude and longitude of the site.
- Follow the driving directions until you can drive no closer to the cache and park your car. Follow the arrow on your GPS receiver as it leads you to the cache. Be aware that heavy tree cover can block the GPS signal. Once you leave your car, it could take anywhere between 15 and 45 minutes to find the cache.
- The GPS signal will fluctuate once you are within 100 feet of the cache, so from that point on, you're on your own. Check around stumps and under rock and leaf piles. Remember that almost all caches are placed above ground, so no digging!
- Congratulations! You've found the cache. Take an item, leave an item and record your experience in the logbook. Reseal the cache and put it back exactly the way you found it.
When you get home, e-mail the person who hid the cache and let him know you found it. Also, post a description of your experience on the cache's online page at <http://www.geocaching.com>

Candy Green Apple... Or Candy Apple Green... Or supin' like that.
Am I right?
P.S. He was sans woody when outta the icy water...
yep..thats him...he's a good guy...
He looks like it... From the pic...
ROFLOLPMP!!!
3 pages of new caches, think I'll take cover in rochester on Saturday. only 20 or so down there to get.
3 pages...omg...what the heck...I was in shock when I kept going thru the list...
well, you get these jerks who go out and hide 2-3 a day, for a few days straight ....
something's cookin' here, back burner
perfect attendance at the four-day Spring Fling should be worth something ... a special limited *find* and a nice prize. How many we talkin' here? A half-dozen?
yeah, what's up with thise people? Oh btw I emailed mtn-man before the deluge asking about my cache, he said he had just gotten back from a stressful business trip. Probably explains why there were so many new ones at one time.
well, you get these jerks who go out and hide 2-3 a day, for a few days straight ....
I'm still convinced that you already have 5K in hides that are already placed in parks throughout the state.....you just submit at a nice slow pace...
who drives a lime green jeep? any idea?
Did ja almost catch someone?
watched him walking all around the area of the cache
I'm tempted to try that one this evening, but not sure if I'll have time.
I figured it would take me an half hour to drive there.....I gotta pick up the girls at 330......won't make it...
oh well..
would be nice to have that series completed before the event.. fairly doable for myself.. except for maybe that one, and silver machine...
Guess I'm still new to this :)
nah, you're a pro. Oh, this is the geocaching thread.
I thought the site would only allow one find per cache?
It's weird. You will have two finds in your stats, but when you look at caches foundit will only show up once. Make sense?
....I thought the site would only allow one find per cache?.......
awwww...so you are a numbers chick?
cool!
Congrats on the cache, T. I got the lowdown from a newbie that it's very nice.
nearby resident
ha...its not easy being green...
the newbie has only done one..
damn girl you have two out there?
...told you she's a numbers girl....
I have a question....KC you did a rehide on Fallin at Phalen, and said it could be relogged....how does that work....I thought the site would only allow one find per cache? Guess I'm still new to this :)
yup, thanks Ian
Thanks....which one?
no silly....which cache?
most things are better done in multiples ;)
lol all this numbers talk. I guess sometimes I'm about numbers myself, but only as a personal goal, not to outdo anyone, cause frankly I'm not a boastful person (at least I try not to be).
And to answer your question Mucluck, I think it's usually up to the cache owner as to if a rehide is different enough to allow previous finders to go back to the same area and log another find for the new hide. Ian has done it in the past on a few caches, and others have as well. I've gone and done em, even think I had to dnf one or two on a rehide (before finding them another time). I usually wait for the owner to okay previous finders to revisit the cache before I go back.

RubberToes found The Fat Rat.... (Traditional Cache) at 4/21/2005
Log Date: 4/21/2005
Well, it happened like this. I stopped by the Black Bear Crossing for a cup of Joe when I first met this guy Kitch. Let me tell you, he didn't look so good. He was hugging a cup of tea like he was afraid it would run off with the waitress. My eyes met his blank gaze, and finally he snapped to. What's wrong with you, I ask. He says it's nothing -- just a late night with he boys at the bowling alley.
A likely story...
So I did some checking around and the truth is this guy isn't getting much sleep. He's afraid of getting double-crossed and done in by this dirty rat -- this fat rat -- that's always lurking in the shadows of his mind.
It's a long story, but the short end of it is that if this Kitch guy doesn't get some help soon, he's going to end up somewhere on permanent CITO detail. So, since I've got nothing better to do, I decide to track down this fat rat to see if I can take some starch out of him. I heard he'd been seen hanging around by the waterfront, so I make my way there and nose around. Pretty soon I see his beady little eyes staring at me, and I know I have him.
I reach in and pull him out of his lair, but something's wrong. This guy is only a shadow of his former self. Just a shell. I'm itching to tatoo my name across his forehead -- to leave my calling card, so to speak -- but there's no pencil, no paper. Before long, I can see this case isn't worth any more trouble. So I just leave that fat rat where he was, shriveling in the corner, with a warning to keep away from Kitch.
what a great log for a cache of mine!!!!
lol man that cache brings back some bad memories... nice log though.
That is a very creative log. Thanks for posting Kitch.
just a late night with he boys at the bowling alley.
BOYS? last time I checked I was wearing a bra ;)
the guy wasn't there (bowling)....he didn't know the girls went bowling... i'm sure....
and I will reiterate what I said last night JUST to remind you...
Why didn't you say it was
just a late night with the Coolerbabes at the bowling alley. ;)
just a late night with the Coolerbabes at the bowling alley. ;)
JUST???
Why didn't I say... "a trip to heaven with the coolerbabes"
see? now you're thinking? ;)

all set up for friday night...
Anyone interested in trying again on "You're Gonna Miss Me" tonight? I gotta do routes at work and figured it'd be the perfect opportunity to night cache that one.
what time?
lol hey, Ian can come and help me find it.
Oh.. probably around 9.. I can't ever tell too well with routes, but it seems about the usual. By all means, come out and laugh at me. I'll post when I'm ready to head out though.

Came at 10:00AM no problem. But it is a Maximum Exposure IV cache, at least according to the aerials.

Shoot, I've driven past it twice now, just too many kids when I've been there. Probably a good idea to hit it during the school hours though. Unfortunately I work during school hours.
I could swing by Miss Mania (X) too, seein as I'm not sure if it's there or not.
I didn't get there, I was 22" deep in swamp muck
Damn Ian you were a Hot young thang ;)
I was 22" deep in swamp muck
I was 22" deep in muck ;) yikes -my mind is in the swamp
