Flash Intro-"Geocaching"
6 minute Movie-"Searching for a cache"
Basic Info
- Buy or borrow a Global Positioning System receiver. A basic unit is the Garmin eTrex GPS or Magellan GPS 315. Both cost about $100 and can be found at stores such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy or online at http://www.amazon.com
- Find a cache near you at <http://www.geocaching.com> Enter a ZIP code and the site will list nearby caches. Select a cache, such as "Geocache by Ray" or "Arboretum One" and click on its "details" button. Write down the cache's coordinates and print out the description. Use the online mapping site link at the bottom of the page to get driving directions to the location.
- While still at home, enter into your GPS receiver the coordinates of the cache as they are listed on the Web site. Coordinates -- such as N 39 degrees 24.661; W degrees 094 14.86 -- describe the latitude and longitude of the site.
- Follow the driving directions until you can drive no closer to the cache and park your car. Follow the arrow on your GPS receiver as it leads you to the cache. Be aware that heavy tree cover can block the GPS signal. Once you leave your car, it could take anywhere between 15 and 45 minutes to find the cache.
- The GPS signal will fluctuate once you are within 100 feet of the cache, so from that point on, you're on your own. Check around stumps and under rock and leaf piles. Remember that almost all caches are placed above ground, so no digging!
- Congratulations! You've found the cache. Take an item, leave an item and record your experience in the logbook. Reseal the cache and put it back exactly the way you found it.
When you get home, e-mail the person who hid the cache and let him know you found it. Also, post a description of your experience on the cache's online page at <http://www.geocaching.com>

"Honey, can you go to Cottage Grove tomorrow, by DeMori's ?"
Hmmm, 2 wet caches in Newport, Loveland looks like a big park, Ria Lake doesn't have any caches, possible 6 new caches ??
"Oh, okay."
HEH
It's still there !
...great....just great...
I didn't look at the log, but it seemedhidden better.
which one are you talking about? Miss Mania X? Or "You're gonna miss me"?
BTW, spent 45 minutes out at "You're gonna miss me"... guess I missed it too. Dangit.
You're gonna miss me
When were you there?
I went about 9:30
[Edited by on Apr 25, 2005 at 09:21pm.]
eh.. got there at 9:50... I see the cache isn't the only thing I missed. And I am planning on going again tomorrow evening... hopefully earlier... no, definately earlier.
Mucky! Kitch! Anyone for meeting up out there tomorrow evening, say around 8:45? That one is buggin me to much now.
its a long drive for me...
lol only hint I got is the coordinates..
Ian, I don't need any special tools to extract the cache do I? or is that too much info?
Did you see rickrich's aerial photo? It kinda has a hint in it too.
BTW, the past 24 hours would have been an excellent time to have a bunch of caches to submit, if you get my meaning.
wish i could that one is bugging me too...I even got some good hints...but life is just too busy in the evenings
You know, I was thinking that when I was sittin at the coords...
Have people missed an obvious reference? That made me look in a different area, but I didn't come across anything.

yep, and obviously small.
if there's maximum exposure, i sit while i hide
eh, kinda went a different route. I tried counting the stairs, found some probable ones, but that cache has got to be tiny if it's in any of them, not to mention I was scratching my head on how it'd get extracted. Even went as far as to wonder if it was an installed cache.
Then my mind got to wandering, and for some reason I wondered if the "You're gonna miss me" was a reference to baseball/softball, so I checked the diamond out. lol a bit off the coordinates, but it'd remind me of Merkong's baseball diamond hide. But nope, it's somewhere on on near those stairs...

what's the fullname of the cache??
lol yeah I know that, and counted to 13 (going up I'm assuming, but I tried down as well). and the sitting part, I remembered you mentioned that. I'm thinking the toughest part really is the hide itself.
...well...I'm learning nothing....

PLEASE don't go to this cache alone....
rumor has it that a buddy of Joelcam's had some guy come up to him and pull his pants down....
:(
sicko
I braved it, but the day I went it was still the end of the business afternoon, so there weren't too many people out yet. Some guy was sitting on a nearby bench, but I went and did Joelcam's Sculpture Garden cache and by the time I got back, I had the whole area to myself.
Still, I didn't sit around long to enjoy any scenery, just in case. I think I was just lucky though that nothin happened.
And dang it Ian, I'm finding that cache tonight. If can brave Loring park alone, surely I can sit around in a safer area long enough to find a tougher cache.
(BTW if anyone wants a spoiler on Loring, so they're not there too long, let me know)
My parents were married in Loring Park May, 1970
So were both my dads. Cooler!
;)

I can get there around 925pm..give or take
excellent.. I'll be there around the same time, if not a little earlier, but if the improbable happens and I find it earlier (ha!) I'll stick around for a bit. Hey Ian, care to come watch the festivities?
hmmmm....
I wondering if we can RACE!!!
nah...I don't stand a chance in heck to get there any faster...
lol.. it'd be more of a race to actually find the cache anyways, and I'm thinking in that way it won't matter if someone has a head start...
true..
Hey Ian, there's a cookie tin in it for you if you show up....

looks like now you have to go for time has come today or evil ways
I'd like to, but it's wednesday.. and wednesdays just never work. Well... at least for the next three weeks, then I'm off for the summer.
Then it'll be time to get some serious caching in. I've seen too many other cachers cross the 1000 mark, it's about time I joined em.
Who's here?
Ian
I still haven't got to see that! Always 2 on. Nice Ian.
As I sat down to log it....a fish fell out of the sky. Scared the carp outta me.
I looked up and an Bald Eagle dropped it from I'd guess 50 or 75 feet. Landed about 7 or 8 feet away from me.
Splattered all over the place.........ewwwww...had no head left.....ewwww....
Seriously Kitch? That's bizzare!
