I'm not an accountant or anything, but I believe legally any money you win is considered taxable. BUT it's totally up to you to claim it on your taxes. The company, in this case whoever is paying for the prize, has no responsibility to report it to the IRS.

However, it's in their best interest to report any gifts they give out, for it's a write off for them.

I'm gonna ask them why they needed my SS#..then we'll all know

OMG...here's the latest in the saga. I was trying to get ahold of the gal in Eden Prairie to see if I could go out there this afternoon. (She had called me Friday afternoon after I found the star, hoping I could come in this week to collect the prize) So today she calls and tells me I need to bring the star in with me to verify the find. I told her I had turned it in to the IGH Park and Rec and had filled out a form with my name, address, etc...in addition to CM taking pictures. Also, the check will be written out when their usual payroll is processed (not this week) So I had to go out to the Park/Rec and pick up the star (which I have to return after driving to Eden Prairie tomorrow)! YIKES!!! I hate to sound ungrateful but this is getting a bit ridiculous!!! :frown:

WHOA!!!!!! why would the parks and rec even take the star from you then? We have pictures of you holding it and turning it in. :eyeroll: :angry: :frown: :eek: :confused: :worried:

I hate to be a bitch (well, usually)...the Park/Rec seemed a little surprised, too. The lady said, "What, the Sun Current doesn't trust us?" but the guy said they did it that way last time, too. SO WHY DID THEY HAVE ME TURN IT IN AT ALL??? Why didn't they say, "Hey, hold onto this because you'll need to take it to the Sun Current?"

yeah, like I don't have enough STRESS in my life right now...our lab is very short-staffed as it is, and now the only other FT person is quitting as of 10/3

on the (temporarily) brighter side...our new pay rate went into effect starting today's check...and they paid me like $56/hr!! I thought, "FINALLY! they're paying me what I am worth"!!! but I have a feeling I shouldn't be spending that $$...they're sure to take it back..very soon

after they taxed me on it, of course

anyway, the Sun Current would be well-advised to send me the check as opposed to telling me I have to drive out there again...my head would be likely to blow right off my shoulders and fly through the air like a deflating balloon

Remember what I said I had to do to collect my TV from the SSP hunt Becksie? Same kind of deal. And it was sponsored by a local paper as well. The Lilly News. Which was also from out of town.

At least I got to keep the treasure button I found. That star of yours wasn't anything fancy. They could easily make a new one each year with a different year on it or code word of some sort.

Did Tim get to keep the flag thing he found? He should have been able to if they weren't planning on ever doing it again.

They told him that they needed to keep it "just in case they do this next year". If they dont do it next year he can call them and she said she would try to get it for him.

All I have right now are the stick and the tickets. They don't even know what road game I'm going to... I need to give them a call and bust some heads.
