I'll bet you 25 cents that yours gets dry before mine...

It keeps looking nice and dry.... until you breath near it, or walk on it, or do anything in the vicinity of it... then water comes up everyplace...

Its like some bad early sci-fi era horror flick...

*cue scary music that nick just made up in his head*

It creeps, it crawls, it slithers in the dark, under the tiles on your basement floor.....When it rains heavy outside, dont go down in the basement! Or IT...WILL...GET...YOU!!!

When I was looking at homes a couple years ago I looked at one in south saint paul that was a nice house, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, big big lot, landscaped, etc. Nice place. Then we went to the basement and one wall of the basement was leaking EVERYWHERE. My dad said "Jesus must be angry, this wall is crying."

We were all set to sign on a house in Oakdale and on our way over to sign the agreement at the house, it started to downpour. We were bummed because it was putting a damper on our special day. Well that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Going against the persuasion of both relators, my father-in-law still decided to check out the basement one last time. Boy were we glad he did. Water everywhere. And we were assured that the nature preserve wetland wouldn't affect the fill that the house was built on. The water level of that marsh was already knocking at the back door even with the short ammount of rain that did already fall. I'd hate to be in that house now.

Whew - what a close call. :eyeroll:

Friends, romans, people who I don't really care about one way or the other,

I have just completed my very first major home improvement project. Thanks to the good people at WorldDoc, inc, I have answered the question "What would I do with unlimited free time and no income?" and have finished totally refacing my kitchen cabinets, by hand. They are american oak, and have two coats of stain and three coats of varnish on them.

They are quite stunning. And as soon as I can figure out why my camera won't turn on I'll post pictures here. (yes, I checked the batteries, smartass).

Just got home from work. All the major hwys and roads were blocked off. The local roads looked like mice scrambling around trying to find their way out of a maze. I was one of them. I can't remember when it was this bad as far as the amount of rain goes anyway.

how about july 1987 ? remember 494 and bush lake road with boats flosting off the trailers?

Hey RB

I meant to tell you that your cabinets look great! How long did it take you?
Tue, 10/11/2005 - 5:20 PM Permalink
becksie

I really need to do that myself but it means stripping (well, I could probably scrape it off!) the existing paint and then sanding, etc. Sounds like more work that I care to take on, really
Tue, 10/11/2005 - 5:21 PM Permalink
becksie

I suppose...if you take it one cabinet at a time...it would seem like a manageable task... that could take all winter (well, except for during the hunt, that is) :eyeroll:

fine, go ahead and leave when I'm trying to have a conversation with you. I'll be fine, really

It took about a year. You could really do it in the better part of a week but it's pretty time intensive to do it in as much detail as I did. Plus it's a huge mess.
