If the clues are spelling something out ("If your grasp of these CLUES"), I haven't figured it out. I thought maybe they were spelling it backwards with the first letter of each clue, but I don't think any parks start with T-S-A or end A-S-T, though you would think they might.
you know...I was just thinking, the guy who hides it must just have a blast sitting in the room and reading everyone's ideas and seeing how deep they dig in their bags of tricks, not to say I don't make him laugh also...but my God...WHAT A JOB HE HAS! :)
Now to go from "pace" to "ace" you have to take away the "p". What takes away pee? A urinal. The Medallion has been substituted as the puck in a urinal! (I'm kidding of course).
To hunt or not to hunt, that is the question. Whether tis sillier in the mind to suffer the cold and snow of a Minnesota winter, or to throw down shovels in the face of Boreas' treasure and by ignoring, lose it. To seek: to dig; No more; And by a dig to say we find the medallion and the ten thousand wonderful dollars it makes us heir to, 'tis a consumation devoutly to be wished. To seek, to dig; To dig: perchance to find: aye, there's the rub; For in those wee hours what hopes may linger when we have overturned the last virgin snow must spur us on. There's the respect that makes the hunt of so long life. For who would bear the burns and bites of wind, the clues read all wrong, the know-it-all hunter, the pangs of fruitless digs, the treasure's delay, the insolence of Joe, and the spurns that the successful hunter of the unlucky takes, when he himself might his job keep by going to work? who would shovels bear, to grunt and sweat under a frosty sky, but that the hope of something afterwards, the undiscovered item within whose bosom the medallion resides, intrigues the will, and makes us rather bear those ills we must than fly to a place where we would know them not. Thus treasure does make hunters of us all, and the native view of Minnesotans is sicklied over the pale hope of warmth and enterprises of great size and wealth, with this regard close their doors and hunt in the name of the coin.
Has anyone looked at the word astute if you rearange the letters it spells statue. I don't know if this has something to do with the clue of if it's just reading too much into the clues.
look for the first letter of clue #4 to be "P"! I think they might spell ____________ PAST backwards, it could be anything before past. Any thoughts or ideas?

Boreas' direction. Seven options. North, South, East, West, Up Down, or just looking at him in whatever direction he might be in. No reason to think its east west south or down. To say up is just to misinterpret north, so probably better to stay with north. So either that or to look at him. I think its north. A king is supposed to be affiliated with all aspects of his land, almost intertwined with it. So you can't look at the castle and say "That's the king". Thus, I don't think you can point to downtown and say that's Boreas. If you agree with that logic, it just leaves north. Now do they mean face north or look at the northern part of the map? That's hard to say for sure.
Stepdogg: check this out...If you are driving NORTH on Snelling Ave, you come up a huge hill from W. 7th St., as you come over the top of the hill, the two towers would come into view...

LL, you're right, but a lot of other words can be rearranged too. Astute happens to be the longest of them. I could be wrong, but generally, unless the clue hints at an anagram, I tend to not look for them.
One of the things that I was thinking about is the word grasp. For some reason after reading clue 2 I thought of a park with a walk/run path and one of those fitness courses where you do situps and things as you walk or run along. I guess because you have to grasp the equipment to do the excercise.
The other thing that grasp made me think about was that it was hidden near a jungle gym.
Just stopping in to say "hello". I also wanted to tell you that in 11 years of treasure hunting, we thought it was at Highland after the first three clues in about 9 of those years.
Mr. Med: It's a little smaller but it has a lower and upper level...the upper is a decent sized field area. I can't really fit any other clues to it yet though...it's still early.
Mr. Med: That acre estimate seems decieving, I was at conway for 3 days last year and it seemed to be much bigger than linwood...but I guess they probably know more than I do :)
Linwood has a southern view, and not such a good view of downtown if any, so not sure if it faces Boreas' direction, however you interpret it. On the other hand, there's no body of water there. If water is not mentioned by tonight, I'd say its a safe bet to say we're dealing with a "dry" park.
Highlander, hit the blue number right after your post to upgrade, don't hit reload.

I like your thinking Wonder
Allison, I think you need some sleep or possibly another drink.J/K
sorry about that guys, i wasn't paying any attention at all DOH!
If William Shakespeare had Medallion fever...

does anyone know where i can find a list of all the parks of St. Paul on the internet???
sorry about that guys, i wasn't paying any attention at all DOH!
yeah friends of the parks is a web site
Dammit...sorry, won't happen again :)
huntin4it--i was there and they don't have a list, you have to enter a park you are looking for.
I need a list of the parks!
Regalman - Yup! got your mail and responded. Thanks!
I have an errand or two to run tonight so I'm gonna do some driving and maybe plodding through a park or two along the way.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to just happen upon that blue thing quite by accident?
Maybe getting a copy of the Treasure Hunter's Guide would prove useful Regalman. I think they're still on sale at the Hungry Mind Bookstore.
waht does everyone think king boreas' direction means?
Stepdogg: If you ask me, I think it means you will see the 2 towers while looking in a northward direction, just a theory...
King Boreas is associated with cold and winter. That sounds like north to me.
Now I'm outta here for a bit. Happy noodling!
aLLISON, i HAVE IT SITTING IN FRONT OF ME. wHAT DID i SAY THAT YOU RESPONDED LIKE THAT??
Could the Astute - Statue anagram be a street near the park...seems somewhat logical?
highlander--i see what you are saying, but i just don't think they are talking about towers as in "water towers". it seems too easy.
Look at the wording... A tower or two SHOULD come into view....
and does anyone think "careful inspection" has any meaning??

Tim--how would past help? just wondering.
well, I'm out to take a look at some parks, be back soon.
it wouldn't help, what comes in the next clues and thus would be before is what would help.

Is Sherwood Park in St. Paul???
No, I don't believe so.

Just "grasping" I guess.
Hi Everyone
Just stopping in to say "hello". I also wanted to tell you that in 11 years of treasure hunting, we thought it was at Highland after the first three clues in about 9 of those years.
I'm going to take the sit and wait approach.
What about Linwood? good view of Downtown but North side of city...Too small??? Any ideas?
Highlander--there is NO way to pinpoint a park right now.
No feelings for or against Linwood at this point.
From what I can remember, you can see quite a bit of St. Paul from Linwood. Isn't Linwood about the same size as Conway?
Stepdogg: no kidding...I was just throwing out possible ideas...
Mr. Med: It's a little smaller but it has a lower and upper level...the upper is a decent sized field area. I can't really fit any other clues to it yet though...it's still early.
Just checked:
Linwood is 38.41 Acres and Conway is 23.5 Acres
I think Linwood would be more than big enough to handle the hunt.
How about Kellogg, has anybody been there yet I see 1st bank tower and the tower the salvation army bucket is on??
The acres listed came from Friends of the Parks web page.
Mr. Med: That acre estimate seems decieving, I was at conway for 3 days last year and it seemed to be much bigger than linwood...but I guess they probably know more than I do :)

Ahhhh..the word "should" in clue 3 is really getting to me.
A tower or two SHOULD come into view????
If they wanted us to look for towers, don't you think they would have said "a tower or two WILL come into view"????
Just seems a little fishy to me.
StepDogg- I was thinking the same thing. Its almost like a tower might magically sprout up from the ground in front of you or it might not.
True StepDogg, maybe the towers are far away and might not be seen in bad or foggy weather.
