Matty B\'s is the home of the Cooler Crew. We\'ve got a party going on every evening from 8 until the clue is released. Sunday night, if the hunt goes that long, the bar will be open but food will not be available.

Clues:

Clue No. 1 (Sunday, Jan. 21)
Welcome ice and snow and temperatures low
There’s no time for cold feet!
For searchers’ pleasure we’ve parked the treasure
Where nature lovers each other greet

Clue No. 2 (Monday, Jan. 22)
Boreas\' vast realm can overwhelm
Even diggers used to the long haul
So here\'s advice to put your hunt on ice:
Look no farther than good old St. Paul

Clue No. 3 (Tuesday, Jan. 23)
Hunters can be surly but in clue-time it’s early
Be safe, friends, and in the hunt revel
Near land that is high the treasure is nigh
Vagueness rules and that’s on the level

Mr. Med Hunter

I'm with Timmers and Clue Master on my favorite. They all seem to be a little dull and boring. I went to the College of visual Arts yesterday for the public opinion session. There is only going to be one button design this year instead of the four designs like we've had for the last eight years. I also like the Capitol in the Snow Globe one. I think the polar bear is because of the new polar bear exhibit at Como - they are going to unveil the button this year at Como on Dec 2 or 3. I forgot which day!

whhhhhhhoa k 'dorks'!

they claim to be doing everything at Harriet Island - pulling all activities from every venue BUT the unveiling is gonna be at Como Park?! wacked!

Kinda nice change to be back to one button, I actually like that better, much more simple and I don't have to collect so many buttons every year that way.

Heh, nice unveiling location as well.

Here's the button that the snowflake ones reminded me of.

Love4Vino

agree OT. the one with the bear looks like a button I have from a white bear days from the 1980's.

I like the teal one with the yellow snowflake.

It seems like they wanna make the carnival more about the area anyways, not just St Paul. Maybe thats why they have the bear on it?(to include WBL)

I bet within a couple years it will be called "The cities winter carnival" or something similar. hope not...

well it is the St. Paul Winter Carnival NOT the Ramsey County Winter Carnival. It should NEVER be otherwise

I think Victoria covered it a little in her paper. I've read a late 1800's pioneer press article where even Minnepolis wanted to steal out ice palace one year because we wer'nt making one. Try to get St. Paulites over to their side of the river. Bastards! :eyeroll:

The mpls skyline is beautiful to look at but theres no place like home. personally my favorites have always been the Ramsey and Dakota County areas.

You get over it pretty fast since you always know where your heart is anyway.

besides CM's so high up he can probably see St. Paul.

Don't you know that's the only reason to build skyscrapers in minneapolis?

Sounds like they want volunteers to keep track of all plants they plant so nothing invasive gets planted. Also if big parks have lots of volunteers they have to work together and get together on certain dates.

Rice Park, for instance, has so many events. They have people to clean up after them. Also the city decides what gets planted. I don't want to feel like one of those inmate that gets out to clean the parks and roadways either. Alot of the big parks and downtown parks already have maintenance crews. I chose a small park, currently in front of my house, a low traffic area where I can run out with the kids with garbage bags and clear it in 15 minutes. (techniqually we already do this). I really didn't want some old ladies garden club to come in and pull out what we've already planted as well without hopefully having to talk with us if we're also volunteers.

I'd like to take on another park but I havn't had the time to look through the list. Something like Orchard or Merriam would be nice.
Fri, 10/27/2006 - 8:53 AM Permalink
Clue Master

Every city should do that. Like you said, we clean up the parks by our house anyway but it would open things up for others to join in.

OT

I think a lot of cities do. So. St. Paul has its park volunteers. My neighbor is the volunteer for Lawshe Park. She's done a really nice job of making it attractive with new plantings. She even convinced them to install water. Before that she'd carry water in pails on a wheel barrel.

took a walk through the mosh-pit at Phalen early this morning as I normally do, and noticed that they did another "controlled burn" up there for the 2nd time this year....

It smells like a giant bon-fire all over the park right now.

just be careful cause alcohol is an astringent is is known for 1) breaking down plastic linings, and 2) extracting the taste of plastic into it.

and on a side note... who drinks schnapps?

I don't drink it, I bathe in it. Then I let people lick me.

Actually, I only drink the stuff during those 12 days in January. Otherwise I'm a faithful 7&7 guy or IceHouse man. :ooh:

ewwww. the times I drank schnapps I was under 17. Once a whole bottle of peach, once a bottle of rootbeer which chased a bottle of champagne (my barf was techicolored)

and peppermint in water bottles in class in H.S.

it's way way way too sweet.

CM - I had 7&7's at the halloween party.. it was the only non-generic alcohol they had.

I'm a dirty (and spicy if they have it) martini girl.

or whiskey / tequilla / scotch out of a flask.

speaking of which - I got a really nice nifty flask this summer for my trip home :0)

I perfected the art of "how to carry and conceal your alcohol" a long time ago....

20 ounce bottles work splendiforously for captain/coke, jameson/coke or any other beverage that turns out being dark anyways...

although during the winter-carnival I prefer 1 liter bottles

gotta agree with that water bottle/clear alcohol deal... thats how we used to sneak drinks into X-Fest and OzzFest over at FloatRite....

paying concert venue prices for alcohol sucks....

Well, Sheee-it! It's not one-of-a-kind...I have EXACTLY the same piece (John Bennett)! It's on a shelf in my guest room...and the corners of the box aren't frayed, either. Hmmm...

nah, I'll just keep it :pbpt:

Wow.....I'm gonna have my three boys start producing some "one-of-a-kind" ice palace artwork and see what it gets on e-bay...there's gold in them thar hills! :worried:

While it's plastic, I kinda like the design. A few modifications and that would be one nice hunting tool.

Heh, like part of the description wording "Removeable Blade can be placed on the T-handle for aggressive snow removal"
