Matty B\'s is the home of the Cooler Crew. We\'ve got a party going on every evening from 8 until the clue is released. Sunday night, if the hunt goes that long, the bar will be open but food will not be available.

Clues:

Clue No. 1 (Sunday, Jan. 21)
Welcome ice and snow and temperatures low
There’s no time for cold feet!
For searchers’ pleasure we’ve parked the treasure
Where nature lovers each other greet

Clue No. 2 (Monday, Jan. 22)
Boreas\' vast realm can overwhelm
Even diggers used to the long haul
So here\'s advice to put your hunt on ice:
Look no farther than good old St. Paul

Clue No. 3 (Tuesday, Jan. 23)
Hunters can be surly but in clue-time it’s early
Be safe, friends, and in the hunt revel
Near land that is high the treasure is nigh
Vagueness rules and that’s on the level

Low could refer to the lower part of Hidden Falls, which I think is the oldest park in Saint Paul, with ice/river/frozen falls.

Just popping in to say hi! I heard Boxmeyer on 'cco this morning. Unfortunately, Suzie Jones spent too much time yacking and he hardly had time to say much of anything.

I am just starting to get over the worst cold ever! Hopefully I (or hubby) will be able to get out and hunt before too long.

Today's paper, inside the metro section, they printed a map of St. Paul, and noted which areas are "out of bounds" for the medallion hunt. Typical things like Phalen Golf Course, Como Zoo, etc. Notable that they marked much of Highland officially out of bounds due to construction, and that the map shows only St. Paul proper.

It's a ruse. It's outside of St Paul.

When did you go?

Interesting. With all this talk of old, Vento nature sanctuary is at the base of Indian Mounds park.

The park is older, and the mounds themselves are really old, but they'd never directly mention them in a clue or people would be messin with em.

NW Como Rec center on Vino's link; North was mentioned for the Boreas' name in clue 2.

I live in Rosemount, grew up in Apple Valley, and we (as far as the post office goes) are considered St. Paul... and we are 15 minutes over the county line into Dakota County! The listing as St Paul as you get just means that is the last major Post Office your mail gets routed through.

not even close. earl is over on the east side and runs between indian mounds and phalen. crosby/hidden are on the southwest end of the city.

tim_the_hunter

the thing that made me go "hmmmmmm..." was the fact that they didn't just say highland is out of bounds, why even bother having part of it legal and part not?

I'm kinda liking Newell at the moment. It's one of the oldest St. Paul parks. Near that truck/railroad area.

Plus, it was the park where Kirk Condie found his first medallion (if I remember correctly). Maybe if the cluewriters don't mention him in a clue, they'll relate this hunt to him in a different way.

On a personal note, it would just figure for me, as I used to work less than half a mile from there, now this year I don't..

Then again, it's only the 2nd clue, so I'm sure I can be proven wrong.

 As I was driving to get the paper and the first clue... Bruce Vento popped into my head. I don't just think of things like that, so I took notice when I saw 'nature' blasting out from the first clue. So when I took my kid out for a drive yesterday, the only places we went to were Cherokee and I. Mounds... Nice that I am not thinking alone on this one...

good points, however I just think it's too small when they can't rely on this snowcover to stay for sure.

edited my post. Yeah, my other thought is it's only the 2nd clue, most likely I'll think of something else with the next clue.

Bruce Vento Sanctuary was the first thing I thought of with clue 1. When you read up about the plans for connecting the trail to the sanctuary, Indian Mounds would surely fit.

For clue 2, I believe it's telling us it's parked in a St. Paul park. Simple.

Or not St Paul. Either way I think that's all we're supposed to get out of the clue.

my $0.02:

clue 1: there's relevance to "where nature lovers each other greet". could mean crosby, since it is a nature area, and rumor has it there's plenty of "greeting" that goes on there, although i doubt very much ma press would use that particular variant on a theme for a clue.

clue 2: good old st. paul is an obvious limitation on location. "boreas' vast realm can overwhelm even diggers used to the long haul". could well mean that to find it there's gonna be a long haul, perhaps from the parking lot, or other parking space. could be a reference to the "vastness" of the park, immediately ruling out smaller parks.
