There's a new thread at the bottom of the Medallion Hunt page. I think that's where folks are going to post for this second round.

Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder

To hunt hard from first to last clues

Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery

Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented

But huntersÂ’ thirst must be quenched

Tell sister and brother weÂ’ve hidden another

In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? DonÂ’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half

So get out there even if itÂ’s snowy

And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --

A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue

Think of a woodsy retreat

It wonÂ’t be so hard if you channel the bard

YouÂ’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet

Someone said there's a longer segment later in the news. I'm going to stay up to watch that.

Someone pointed out at the PP Board that level in Cleveland isn't even mentioned in the clue explanations!

Ha! Whatever works!
Tue, 01/23/2007 - 11:53 PM Permalink

That's why I say the explanations are the worst part of the hunt.

That makes it all the more amazing that he found it in that big park by using a clue that didn't even exist! Haha!

Were the people at the PP scratching their heads when he told them how that led him to the spot?

I just read the clues and explanations. All I can say is that Jake was lucky, tenacious, or both because they sucked. Or, they just didn't give good explanations because they were rushed for time.
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 12:11 AM Permalink
mrmnmikey

they never give the total explanations anyways. They always have had double meanings.
Wed, 01/24/2007 - 12:20 AM Permalink
mrmnmikey

Thats why it's so sweet when you figure them out. They make double sense.

Clue No. 1 (Sunday, Jan. 21)

Welcome ice and snow and temperatures low

ThereÂ’s no time for cold feet!

For searchersÂ’ pleasure weÂ’ve parked the treasure

Where nature lovers each other greet

Explanation:

We welcome the return of winter, refer to the treasure-hunting film "No Time for Cold Feet," and allude to the medallion being in a park frequented by nature lovers

Clue No. 2 (Monday, Jan. 22)

Boreas' vast realm can overwhelm

Even diggers used to the long haul

So here's advice to put your hunt on ice:

Look no farther than good old St. Paul

Explanation:

Hunters must take a longer-than-usual trek to the spot, which is in the city of St. Paul

Clue No. 3 (Tuesday, Jan. 23)

Hunters can be surly but in clue-time itÂ’s early

Be safe, friends, and in the hunt revel

Near land that is high the treasure is nigh

Vagueness rules and thatÂ’s on the level

Explanation:

We ask hunters to be safe and look near "land that is high" - the bluffs over the Mississippi river - but on level land. We admit that the early clues are vague.

King Boreas aka Ian

This clue describes the exact spot where the medallion is hidden. Entering at the Magoffin Avenue gate, hunters park at the boat-ramp lot and then head down river on a skiing and hiking path until they come to the second of two painted seats. From there, the hunters are directed through some woods into a slight depression surrounded by mounds and on to some fallen logs. The medallion is encased in ice, with the UAW Local 879 and Ford logos, under the logs.

So it was below? I was getting the impression he found it street level "above" the park?

OMG, that's where I was, hiding a cache. I parked at the boat launch, looked at the first painted bench, and walked about .4 mile to the high-voltage towers, then went into the grassy, woody area and placed the hide:

N 44° 53.988 W 093° 11.374

I couldn't submit it, because another cache is a few hundred feet away. How did you guys get to the "spot" ? From above or below? I'm really confused. He said he parked at a church?

There is only one reason Jake found the puck. HE WAS LOOKING FOR IT!

After seeing the explanations and talking with Jake the clues were not a factor in this hunt. He was al;rerady on HF befor it started by looking what park was due. He did start to look in that area, because of the clues, but for the wrong reasons. luck

mostly it was the hours he spent looking. I don't think anybody elese was lookingn all day yesterday but Jake. any of you lookall day ??

Moral. spend more time looking, less time noodeling. except for reviewing patterns in past hidding nplaces and parks.

The clues are only a very small part of the hunt.
